A Message in the Moon was inspired by Downey’s own story of losing her mother when she was just ten years old and the comfort her father brought her. Years later, when Downey left home for college, her father pointed to the full moon and told her, "Whenever you feel alone, always look into the night sky, and you’ll be reminded of how much I love you. I’ll leave a message for you in the moon.” That simple comfort remains with Downey today, and now she is passing it on to parents and children alike.

Born in Ireland and classically trained in London, Ms. Downey has performed on stage with the famed Abbey Theatre Company and has appeared both on and off Broadway. Among her many television appearances Downey is probably best known for her starring role as Monica, the tender-hearted angel on the hit show “Touched by an Angel" which ran on CBS for almost a decade. The Bible Continues’ for NBC, and “ answered Prayers” for TLC. They were also executive producers on the feature films “ Little Boy” for Open Road Films, “ Woodlawn” for PureFlix, “Ben-Hur” for MGM and Paramount and the documentary “Faithkeepers” about the persecution of Christians and other minorities in the middle east.

A nice book that may help with separation anxiety.

I read this book as an adult reader for the AR Diamond Book Award. I enjoyed the book overall, and I think that this book would be a wonderful gift to a child who is traveling far away from someone they love. However, it may not be for every reader, as it ends with a prayer and speaks about God. A sweet message overall with nice illustrations to match.

A moving book! It is a story about how love lives on the moon. That no matter where you are in the world, close or far from the people you love, their love will always be with you. Each page shows a different family (a dad and his daughter, a dad and his son, a mom leaving her daughter to have her little sibling, etc.) It tries to relate to the children, there is even a page about going to your first sleepover! I think this would be a cute book to keep in the classroom to have children read whenever they miss their family.

The light of the moon is the light of love. What a great realization that a child can know to feel comforted and loved and connected to loved ones by seeing the moon shining it's love-light. This book will be a wonderful Christmas present for my 8yo grandson, which is especially appropriate since we live in different states.
