‘Baby groups: a soft, cosy haven for the new mum, right? Um. No. Or is it just me?’
Stevie’s life has changed beyond recognition since having her first baby. She loves being a mum, but between the isolation and being vomited on five times a day, she really wishes she had someone to talk to.
With husband Ted working hard to keep the family afloat, Stevie doesn’t want to burden him with her feelings. Turning to the internet, Stevie starts the anonymous First-Time Mum blog and blasts the rose-tinted glasses of parenthood right off her readers.
In the real world, Stevie meets the formidable Nelle and gorgeous Will, along with their own little treasures, and starts to realise that being a ‘perfect mum’ isn’t everything. But when the secret blog goes viral, Stevie must make some tough choices about who she wants to be, and whether she’s ready for the world to know the truth…
A perfect laugh-out-loud read for fans of Gill Sims, Fiona Gibson and Milly Johnson.
This book is really good when you’ve got a toddler and you think fucking hell I’m the worse parent. You see that everybody around you isn’t actually judging you for the meltdowns and the crying they’re actually just minding their business. I’d recommend this to any mum or mums to be!
I originally picked this book up because the main characters name is Stevie and my name is Stevie too and it’s rare to find a female Stevie
Such an easy read was this one and so relatable to parenting!
Stevie, a first-time parent to baby Cherry, finds herself changed since having a baby. Her husband Ted works a lot, travelling the world, and this has left Stevie struggling with confidence. She can’t even bring herself to speak to other mums! However, this all changes when she meets Nelle and Will, and their little ones. Together, they form an amazing trio, ready to tackle the challenges of parenthood ahead, providing each other with a shoulder to lean on.
I would highly recommend this to any first-time mums as a little pick-me-up. Just remember, you’re not alone! 4⭐️
2.5. I didn’t not enjoy this book, but I think I’d of enjoyed it more if I read it when my daughter was younger, so I could take full advantage of completely ‘being in the moment’ with the character. The book was funny, but it had way too many commas in the sentences. It was as if the author was trying way too hard to make every damn sentence funny, by adding in her funny antidotes. I didn’t really start enjoying this book until about 40% in, as that was when things really started to take a turn with her blog. I absolutely hated the husband from start TO FINISH. He was a crap father and he made out that Stevie having a blog was the worst thing in the world, when he was nowhere to be seen. Spending all his extra time away in his home office and not helping her with their daughter.
Will and Nelle are just the bestest friends anyone could ask for. I loved how close they all got, and it reminded me of a few friends I have that helped me get through the early stages. We all need a few friends like these in our lifetime.
This book was ok I guess, I felt like I forced myself to keep reading and finish the book. It was very anticlimactic tbh. The story for me was a bit meh, like she made a blog, suddenly became popular practically overnight then was found out and then it ended? Just a bit boring for me. Plus I found that the chapters were just too long at times. That’s just my opinion though! I hope other people enjoy it ☺️
Don’t get me wrong, this author is fantastic with her writing. The way the book managed to include the blog posts to the point you can still carry on with the story with no struggle was amazing. However, it took a while for me to get into the story. I felt like the beginning bit slightly dragged on and it took a while for a major plot to happen with people finding out Stevie was the first time mum. Besides that, it was definitely a great read.
Although it has been many years since being a first time mum, the there are parts of this story that make me feel like it was yesterday. If I had read this at the appropriate time of being a first Time Mum, I swear this book could have been my bible. Not so much with the upchuck, but more or less everything else; it was so relatable for me.
Reading the different reviews I wasn't really sure what to expect, but I really liked this book! This book is definitely best enjoyed while being a first-time mom. Some parts made me laugh and some parts made me cry, because I absolutely understand the joys and struggles of being a first-time mom. I have to disagree with a few of the comments about Ted. He did get better towards the end.
Quite an easy read! I'm pretty sure any parent can relate to this book. All characters are quite relatable. Would recommend anyone to give this a book try!
