About the author

Phillip Kennedy Johnson earned a Master of Music degree from the University of North Texas, where he served as Teaching Fellow for the Department of Jazz Studies, and a Bachelor of Music degree from Eastern Kentucky University. SFC Johnson has performed with the Lexington Philharmonic, Dallas Opera, Washington Symphonic Brass, and the Moscow Ballet, and was a member of the Glenn Miller Orchestra from 2004 to 2005. SFC Johnson remains active as a composer, arranger, teacher, and clinician, and also enjoys a second career as a writer of comics and graphic novels. His work has been published by DC Comics, Marvel Comics, BOOM! Studios, and more.

007: For King and Country #1 by Johnson and Spalletta is a first part of a James Bond story sequel formatted into a graphic novel.

The opening part of the story contained many James Bond–styled elements: car chases, a powerful figure has been killed and the military is planning a coup, newly developed weapons involving nano- / biotechnology, and Bond going into hiding together with Gwendolyn Gann (003) because they are suspected of having turned against the security service, even though of course they actually haven’t.

Never read a James Bond themed graphic novel before, so I wait how this sequel turns out, the first part was pretty good, maybe even worth 4 stars .

This was my first foray into the Bond comic books. It was enjoyable--I certainly kept turning the page--and the illustrations were great. The overall storyline was engaging, but but there were some plot inconsistencies that kept it from being higher rated for me. I'd certainly give another one a try, though.
