Just read this for the 2nd time (first time over 15 years ago). This book is incredible! I have made everyone close to me read it and most have said it has become one of their favorite books.
The book is about good vs. evil, survival, love, fear and hope. It is an end of the world story with fantastical elements. I just LOVE this book. I plan to read it again in about 10-15 years!

Released around the same time as The Stand, this dystopian novel takes a slightly different look at the end of the world and the world after. It has a similar feel as The Stand, The ultimate good battling the ultimate Evil, two camps with people drawn to each camp based on their basic character and nature.

That's pretty much where the comparison ends. These characters have nothing in common with those other characters, and the beginning of the end is the cold war fear of nuclear destruction as opposed to something as subtle as a virus. It starts hard and fast and doesn't let up. The characters are well thought out and developed, with a group of unlikely heroes going up against the villainous opposing camp. You will absolutely cheer for Josh and Swan, and the ragtag bunch they pick up along the way, while genuinely disliking and curling your lip at the nefarious Roland, Macklin and crew. I revisit this book often, and am never bored or disappointed.
