Arthur Pruitt has been sent back in time to prevent a disaster from threatening the survival of mankind.
A child needs to be born, a child who will grow into a mighty figure and drag the world from the dark ages.
But a threat to the boy’s birth has arisen and it is Arthur’s task to travel back and cancel that threat. It is a dangerous task and at times it will threaten his sanity, and his life. They should have sent someone else. Anyone else. He was not up to such an epic quest.
Then he met Mouse, the medieval pig-girl, and she was possibly a greater challenge to Arthur than his quest. A quest she was equally unsuitable for. But together… Together they were unstoppable. Completely mismatched, but unstoppable. Almost.
An adventure story, a mystery, and a touching love story with some very dark moments, all set in medieval times. Just like a fairy story, it has woodcutters, lords and ladies, and princesses in towers. And Trolls?
Really enjoyed this fun time travel/ medieval quest with romance. more like a coming of age story, as the hero Arthus begins as a hapless, shy 19 year old and his adventures in medieval England after time travelling there help him grow into a popular young man. A bit over simplified in some areas but a really good clean fun adventure.
A fairy tale for adults but more than that - great plot and characters - very different - difficult to describe and assign to a genre - think Harry Potter but not - so imaginative and creative - I've read a lot of books and this is in my top ten favs- can't wait to read the next one
