Przyjemne romansidło. Było zabawnie, lubiłam potyczki słowne bohaterów i polubiłam hrabiego. Tylko te schematyczne wydarzenia w drugiej połowie odebrały mi trochę pozytywnych wrażeń. Ale babcia głównej bohaterki wymiata.

Może i akcja dzieje się w Anglii czasów regencji, ale zachowanie bohaterów jest zdecydowanie współczesne. Essie klnie, wspina się (w sukni, więc nie mam pojęcia jakim cudem) po drzewach, sama się ubiera, czesze, wbiega do domu narzeczonego o 2 w nocy bez żadnych społecznych konsekwencji. Trochę mi to przeszkadzało, ale mimo wszystko jako lektura na odmóżdżenie daje radę. Mimo że klisza kliszę pogania (Pan Mokra Koszula jest? Jest. Ucieczka do Gretna Green z badboyem jest? Jest. Pojedynek jest? Jest).

„Jak stracić hrabiego w 10 tygodni” opowiada o Essie żyjącej w XIX wiecznej Anglii, której małżeństwo zostało zaaranżowane jeszcze w dzieciństwie.
Gdy dziewczyna podrasta i przychodzi czas na publiczne oświadczyny, Essie decyduję się na plan B - czyli zamierza być tak kompromitująca dla swojego męża, żeby zostawił ją w przeciągu 10 tygodni.
W każdego z tych bohaterów było mi bardzo łatwo uwierzyć. Pokochałam wybory Essie, jej relację z Aidenem i ich poczucie humoru.
Te książkę czytało mi się rozkosznie.
Jak mnie dobrze znacie to wiecie, że UWIELBIAM XIX wieczne romanse!
Nie powinno was więc zadziwić, że pozycje te oceniam na 5 gwiazdek!

This book is yet another that leaves me wondering "WHY?" Why do writers like Ms Fletcher make absolutely ZERO effort to have the characters think, act and speak in period-appropriate ways? The characters in this book, and most of the others of hers I've read, are 100% contemporary 21st century people. Their thinking, behaviour and speech make no concession the alleged setting.
If Ms Fletcher and so many others like her have not the inclination and/or skill to write
Regency romances that are credible depictions of the period, why bother? Why not "write what they know" more honestly and change the characters' clothing and modes of transportation - the only elements of this story (and so many others) that are not native to the 21st century.

Jak ztratit kluka v 10 dnech je dvacet let stará romantická komedie s Kate Hudson a Matthewem McConaugheym, ale protože teď frčí Bridgerton, máte to v téhle knížce doplněné o šaty, plesy, klobouky a vzletná vyznání. Za mě pecka!
Essie je odjakživa zasnoubená s Aidenem, vévodou z Delholmu, a samozřejmě si ho nechce vzít. Jednak ho nesnáší, jednak nechce být vévodkyní. On z chystané svatby sice taky není nadšený, ale potřebuje její věno, takže na zasnoubení trvá. A tak se Essie rozhodne, že se stane tak nepřípustnout partií, až se z nechtěného svazku osvobodí.
Já miluju regency romantiku, takže jsem byla dost nadšená. Ale i kdyby vás tenhle žánr úplně míjel, tohle není až tak moc typické. Očividně je to napsané pro lidi, co koukají na Netflixu na Bridgertony, ale nemají načtenou celou Austenovou, Quinnovou, Heyerovou a další. Vsuvka: není to sexy, je to čistá historická romantická komedie. Vlastně bych to možná doporučila těm, co mají rádi Kroniky prachu (Ha! Tak přece jen mám i jiný tip než Kufr z nebe.) Je to od nepřátelství k lásce, oba hlavní hrdinové jsou mega sympaťáci, které si oblíbíte už na začátku (hlavně Aidena) a pobavíte se. Fakt moc doporučuju.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher in return for an honest review.
Essie was betrothed to Aidan, the Earl of Denholm when they were both children, and from the moment she met him she decided two things: she disliked him heartily; and she had no desire whatsoever to be a countess. Essie was set on becoming an actress. On the day of her eighteenth birthday and her official betrothal, she decides she’s going to find a way to rid herself of her unwanted fiancé. Unfortunately, the Earl is rather set on taking her on for her dowry, and Essie has the added problem of having to make sure that she escapes from the betrothal without her estranged father getting wind of her intentions.
This is a fun, pacy, flirty and very witty book, and I romped through it. Essie is an endearing, a highly original heroine with a strong stubborn streak and a heart of gold – except when it comes to her fiancé, whom she presents a heart of stone. What I loved about Aidan is that he was an honourable man just as trapped in a different way, in an engagement he didn’t want. He’s trying so hard to do his duty by his mother and sister and his estate, to fulfil all the obligations his father didn’t, but the big problem he faces as the book goes on is that by doing that, he realises it’s not only himself but Essie who is going to be sacrificed. And he likes Essie. He likes her a lot. To her annoyance, he also ‘gets’ her in a way no-one else does.
There’s lots of classic Regency romp in this book (and nothing wrong with that) but there’s also some serious issues being dealt with too, with a lovely light touch. Essie is stubborn and clings way too hard to her preconceptions about Aidan, judging him by his earldom and all she thinks that represents. As a heroine, she has a lot of prejudices to overcome, and she has to learn the tough lesson of giving people a second chance, of looking beyond appearances to understanding motivations.
Aidan has inherited a shedload of debt and a huge burden of obligations, and he needs Essie’s dowry to sort it all out – not because he wants to life the high life, but because he wants his tenants to have warm, weatherproof cottages, and he wants to pay his servants a living wage. By an odd coincidence, I’m currently reading Adrian Tinniswood’s ‘Noble Ambitions,’ about the fall and fall of the country house after the First World War, the battle that stately home owners had to wage to keep their homes, to house and employ their tenants, in the face of massive debt, declining incomes and inheritance tax – nearly two hundred years after Aidan is pretty much fighting the same battle. Aidan doesn’t put himself first, and for that alone, he’s a wonderful hero, but having to choose between his obligations and Essie’s happiness however, is a much tougher decision for him to make.
I really enjoyed this novel, and had no idea that it was intended for the YA market – I think that’s a good thing. Essie and Aidan eventually get their well-deserved and satisfactory happy ever after. As for poor Cousin Caro – well, I’m hoping there’s a second book to sort out a happy ever after for her too.

How To Lose An Earl In Ten Weeks is an historical romance.
On Essie’s eighteenth birthday she will meet again the man that she is engaged to. Her father made the engagement arrangements when Essie was still a child and she hasn’t seen her fiancée for years. Alas, Essie doesn’t want to be a Countess; she has her own enthusiastic plans for her life. So she decides to do all she can to make the Earl refuse to marry her. The story that follows is a fun romantic comedy as Essie does her best to shock her Earl. I liked Essie’s high spirits especially her choice of dress colours. I also loved her Grandmother, a wonderful secondary character, who was quite outrageous at times with some of her thoughts and actions. It all added to the comedy.
I would recommend this to readers of adult historical romance who might enjoy some of the amusing situations that the characters find themselves in. Penguin lists the book as being for teenagers, but I believe its appeal to be potentially much wider.

Lekka, przyjemna i całkiem zabawna. Bardzo dawała mi vibe serialu "Bridgertonowie" który swoją drogą bardzo lubię. Jedyne do czego mogłabym się przyczepić to głowna bohaterka, która z początku była według mnie bardzo dziecinna. Z czasem jednak nieco spoważniała, co było jak najbardziej na plus.
Lekka, przyjemna i całkiem zabawna. Bardzo dawała mi vibe serialu "Bridgertonowie" który swoją drogą bardzo lubię. Jedyne do czego mogłabym się przyczepić to głowna bohaterka, która z początku była według mnie bardzo dziecinna. Z czasem jednak nieco spoważniała, co było jak najbardziej na plus.

Nie oczekiwałam od tej książki zbyt wiele, ale i obawiałam się, że mi się nie spodoba, gdyż kupiłam ją pod wpływem chwili, a opis specjalnie mnie nie zainteresował.
Dlatego też, uważam, że zaskoczyła mnie bardzo pozytywnie. Nie była idealna oraz nie wiadomo jak ciekawa, ale wciągnęła mnie.
Postacie były przyjemne oraz barwne, a wątek romantyczny dobrze poprowadzony. O dziwo, podczas czytania, nie zirytowałam się nawet razu, co na romansach bywa u mnie rzadko.
Jedynie zakończenie oraz wątek z miłością Caro nie przypadły mi specjalnie do gustu. Były zbyt prędkie oraz chaotyczne.

4,25/5⭐️ Sięgając po to książkę liczyłam na lekka opowieść i to dostałam! Książka miła bardzo fajny klimat- wszystkie ogrody, bale, zasady tworzy piękna otoczkę która pochłaniała od pierwszych stron! Największym plusem tej książki byk humor, dzięki mocno ciętymi językowi głównych bohaterów mieliśmy wiele śmiesznych sytuacji! Książka zawierała kilka ciekawych intryg, a sam główny wątek był ciekawy! Troszkę nie umiałam się wkręcić w wątek romantyczny, bo są to dawne czasy i bliskość/miłość wyglądała wtedy inaczej. Wątek ten był uroczy i końcowi uważam ze przedstawiony w fajny sposób, gdyż widać że autorka na takie tematy ma obszerna wiedzę. Książka jest napisana przyjemnym i lekkim językiem dzięki czemu czyta się ja szybko!

Bardzo przyjemny romans! Chociaż też muszę przyznać, że przypomina mi fabułą pierwszy sezon Bridgertonów, z tym że bohaterka ma zupełnie inny charakter i dodaje trochę feminizmu tej powieści. Poza tym uwielbiam postać babci- zdecydowanie moja ulubiona!

How to Lose an Earl in Ten Weeks is a seriously fun and sparkling enemy to lovers story and I absolutely loved it – this is easily in my favourite books of the year, it’s just too darn good!!
This tells the story of a young woman; Essie (I love that name, it’s super pretty) who has been betrothed to the Aidan; Earl of Denholm since they were children – all down to two manipulated, orchestrating and pound signs seeing fathers. Essie from the moment of setting eyes on her future husband decided there and then that she disliked him from her very core, she hated every part of him. I did think that she was a little short-sighted in regards to Aidan she judged him from childhood instead of getting the know the man he becomes. She has a lot of issues to overcome, I did think there were moments she was rather childish and there was a lot of prejudice for Aidan and society as a whole simmering beneath, s that was interesting to watch she matured and grew.
I loved the honesty between Essie and Aidan when she unceremoniously barges into his rooms to basically demand that he call off this wedding only to be confronted by a few home truths. As much as he agrees with her and that marriage to each other would be awful he lays his cards on the table and tells her in no uncertain terms that he needs her dowry! Thanks to his feckless father the Earldom is in dire need of money, he needs to clear his father’s debts, needs to fix his estate and that means he needs a rich heiress – or more accurately needs the woman in front of him, so no he will not be letting this little pocket rocket slip through his fingers. They will be walking down the aisle and shackled together, whether she likes it or not!!
Well, her hackles rise instantly and soon starts plotting to rid herself of this man, she doesn’t want to be tethered to a loveless marriage not when she has aspirations of her own, she wants to be an actress something which is frowned upon especially when others have already planned out her life.
It has a great cast of characters too, Aidan is adorable; there is a tantalising sexiness to him beneath the huge weight he is carrying on those broad shoulders, I found to be far too serious than he should have been at his age but again he has a lot going on that needs him to be a more severe man that I think he really is, I enjoyed watching his personality shine through as the story moved forward. Likewise, with Essie, she is a livewire, a stubborn young miss who has plans and ideas of what her life should be like, I did think she was a little too nieve and her misguided opinions of the world and of Aiden spoke more of her young years that of the women she became, again I enjoyed seeing her character develop over the course of the book.
I must pay special mention to a few of the supporting characters; Essie’s grandmother, the Dowager – my gawd she is a venomous tongued hoot, every time she is in a scene I instantly envision Maggie Smith, she steals every scene she is in with her quick wit.
I also love Caro, she’s so lovely and likeable I would absolutely love to see her find a happily ever after too (hint, hint).
How to Lose and Earl in Ten Weeks is published as a young adult, yet I think this is one of those books that will appeal to any reader of historical romance. This is a relatively short read, and with how sharp and witty the writing is I flew through the pages in one weekend – believe me, that is something to be celebrated, I am a notoriously slow reader, this book though from the moment started reading I couldn’t stop, I was hanging on every word.
Overall, this is a really great read, it’s full of flirtatious quips, good-hearted humour and speeds along with its perfectly balanced pacing. It has all the feels of a classic regency romance, it has that lighter feel-good charm and glittery touch which we all love from the era, yet with a few serious issues dotted throughout which our characters must resolve in one way or another and you have an insightful and satisfyingly romantic story

Zpříjemněné čekání na nové díly Bridgertonů. Tenhle příběh má podobný vibe, jako seriál. Občas se postavy chovaly moc přehnaně a neodpovídalo to situaci. Cením humor a sarkasmus, občas tam byly opravdu vtipné momenty. Hezky popsaná doba, člověk se do příběhu snadno vžije

This was an impulse kindle sale buy because the title sounded cute and I always liked the movie "How to lose a guy in 10 days" of which this is a (kind of) historical/regency re-telling.

This was a light and fluffy read with two very likable leads and some witty dialogue. I thought the pacing was a bit slow in places, but that may be more due to my tiredness and maybe I wouldn't feel that under normal circumstances. However, I went in with some pretty high expectations and while they were mostly met....there was just still something missing that I can't quite put my finger on. It had all the perfect ingredients - great characters, great plot, good dialogue, well written - it just lacking that dash of magic (for me) that would push it into the realm of memorable amid the sea of regency romances out there.

This was an impulse kindle sale buy because the title sounded cute and I always liked the movie "How to lose a guy in 10 days" of which this is a (kind of) historical/regency re-telling.

Oh mein Gott, ich liebe dieses Buch.
Es ist einfach perfekt. Es ist von allem was dabei und hat meine Erwartungen nur immer mehr übertroffen. Von nun an eindeutige mein neues Lieblingsbuch.
Ich habe davor noch nie einen historisch
angelehnten Roman gelesen, aber ich liebs.
Alle Charaktere sind perfekt geschrieben und an sich ist die Schreibart so unglaublich und fesselnd.
Es ist einfach perfekt. Es ist von allem was dabei und hat meine Erwartungen nur immer mehr übertroffen. Von nun an eindeutige mein neues Lieblingsbuch.

Schon mit ihrer Geburt wurde festgelegt, wen Essie heiraten wird: Aidan, den Earl von Denholm und daran hat sie keinerlei Interesse. Lieber will sie die Welt erkunden und mehr aus ihrem Leben machen, als nur zu heiraten. Und damit steht sie nicht alleine da. Auch Aidan, der nur ihre Mitgift braucht, um sein Zuhause zu retten, möchte nicht heiraten. Also schließen beide einen Pakt und Essie hilft ihm, eine besssere Partie zu finden. Aber bald gibt es ein weiteres Problem, denn je mehr Zeit sie miteinander verbringen, desto mehr findet sie Aidan gar nicht so verkehrt...
Meine Meinung:
Was für ein tolles Cover, ich meine, es war für mich wirklich Liebe auf den ersten Blick und für mich passte es wirklich perfekt zum Klappentext, der mich sehr neugierig auf die Geschichte machte. Ich lese sehr gerne Regancy-Romane und ich habe kein Problem damit, wenn sie dem selben Schema folgen. Solange sie mich in eine andere Zeit entführen können und Spaß machen, dürfen sie auch gerne kitschig sein und es ein wenig übertreiben. Dieser Reihenauftakt allerdings ließ mich recht ratlos zurück und auch, wenn es sich sehr flüssig lesen ließ, fühlte ich mich die meiste Zeit eher in einem modernen YA Roman, als in der Vergangenheit, was ich schade fand. Es las sich oft sehr langweilig und mit den Figuren wurde ich kaum warm.
Die Geschichte wurde aus den beiden Ich-Perspektiven der Hauptfiguren Essie und Aidan erzählt und dennoch fand ich nie einen wirklichen Draht zu ihnen, da sie mir dennoch zu oberflächlich und uninteressant blieben. Viele ihrer Handlungen, Denkweisen und Aussprachen konnte ich mir bereits im Vorfeld denken und ihre Chemie lief die meiste Zeit eher auf Sparflamme. Genau wie die Handlung, die sich recht langweilig las und wenig Spannung, Emotionen oder Überraschungen bereit hielt. Hier passte das Motto: Kennst du einen historischen Liebesromanm kennst du alle; sehr gut. Per se habe ich auch gegen Vorhersehbarkeit nichts, aber dann möchte ich wenigstens gut unterhalten werden und meinen Spaß haben.
Zwar hat das Buch dies in Teilen geschafft, aber es frustrierte mich eher. Vieles drehte sich im Kreis und generell schaffte die Handlung es nicht, sich zu entwickeln und mich zumindest im weiteren Verlauf neugierig werden zu lassen. Das lag zum Teil an den Figuren, wobei ich eigentlich nur wirklich mit Essie und Aidan Probleme hatte. Die anderen Figuren waren zwar recht nichtssagend, nervten mich aber nicht. Mit dem Paar wurde ich nie warm, was auch an ihrer Widersprüchlichkeit und ihren Entscheidungen lag, die wenig nachvollziehbar wirkten. Die ganzen Missverständnisse wurden zu sehr in die Länge gezogen und obwohl die Lösung klar vor Essie lag, war sie zu starrköpfig und recht einfältig, um sie zu sehen. Mal war ja ok, aber das zog sich ja nun das ganze Buch durch und wirkte irgendwann nicht mehr amüsant. Aidan dagegen hätte man auch getrost austauschen können, weil es sich trotz allem sehr wenig um ihn drehte.
Das lässt sich leider auch über die versprochene Handlung sagen, die so dann leider nicht umgesetzt wurde. Ich freute mich auch Irrungen und Wirrungen, wenn die beiden bei der Brautschau sich immer näher kommen. Leider wurde dann aber eine standadisierte und vor allem unwichtige Szene in der Gesellschaft nach der nächsten gereiht und die Nebenhandlungen harmonierten nicht damit. So geriet diese Brautschau zu sehr in den Hintergrund und auch die Liebesgeschichte zwischen Essie und Aidan fühlte sich trotz durchaus vorhandener Chemie recht lauwarm an.
Die Bezeichnung Regency-Roman finde ich nicht recht treffend, weil es sich weniger wie ein historischer Liebesroman als eher ein YA/NA Roman aus der jetzigen Zeit anfühlte. Wenn die typischen Begriffe nicht vorgekommen wären, hätte es genauso im hier und jetzt spielen können, da die Figuren sich nicht passend verhielten und es sich mir zu modern anfühlte. Historizität ? Eher Fehlanzeige.
Der Schreibstil war noch das beste an dem Buch, da er sich wirklich sehr flüssig lesen ließ. Zwar fühlte es sich eben nicht wie ein historischer Roman an, aber es war lesbar und ich kam wirklich sehr schnell damit durch, ohne Seiten zu überfliegen.
Fazit:
Nicht das, was ich erwartet habe und ehrlich gesagt finde ich es schon schade, dass es sich so modern anfühlte und so wenig aus dem Potenzial machte. Mit den Figuren wurde ich wenig warm und ihre Chemie war sehr ausbaufähig, aber es ließ sich trotzdem recht flüssig lesen und für ein, zwei Lesenachmittage fand ich es in Ordnung. Die Reihe werde ich nicht weiter verfolgen und kann auch den ersten Band nicht sonderlich empfehlen. Dennoch gibt es von mir:
