This is book six of the Charassi’s Fae Queen series and the main characters are Bone Queen Ophelia Monroe, a human now with magic after she bonded with dragon Sunny (Sun in the Black Sky), and King Corrin, High King of the Fae and bonded to dragon River (Shadow on the River), plus Sunny and River’s young hatchling Starstriker, whose very existence is linked to a great evil and a prophecy of old. An ancient evil being, Kaliban, who was created by the six Ancestral Forces, ended up locked away in the Heart of the Realms after they realised how dangerous he was. Unfortunately, the birth of Starstriker has formed a bond between the young dragon and Kaliban, leaving Kaliban able to drain power and very life from Starstriker, in his attempts to escape his prison. The whole of Charassi and all other realms could be destroyed if Kaliban manages to escape and seeks his revenge on the Ancestral Forces themselves. Their previous journey to the Heart of the Realms left one of their trusted friends, Triel, under Kaliban’s influence and armed with an artifact he used back in Charassi to gather more people to Kaliban’s army, brainwashing them.

Corrin and Ophelia have to find a way to break the brainwashing spell put upon all these people, but have only had success one to one with pixies specialising in Mindwalking, able to bring people back to their normal selves. Those struck by Kaliban’s influence are suddenly able to use magic and a sudden accidental discovery means Ophelia’s human family members may be key to battling this magic! Young Starstriker is weakening as they ponder what to do, leaving his parents Sunny and River devastated. Ophelia and Corrin seek answers and solutions to the Kaliban problem, but he was created by ancient powers and whilst they have had one period of assistance from the Ancestral Forces, it seems they are unwilling to assist and interfere with mortal’s issues. Ophelia’s young sister Cricket (Amelia) steals the show for large parts after she runs away from a bully at school situation and crosses the portal between their Earth bound home and the palace in Dominion, Charassi, looking for her sister and to get away from the upset. Ophelia is shocked to see her there, but sends someone to pass a message to their father Jason, whilst Cricket gets a bit of a talking to! Cricket’s love of young Starstriker can’t be denied and ends up being a key part of the story. Breaking the bond between Kaliban and Starstriker may be too late as he weakens the very fabric between his prison and their realm. Their realm is becoming unstable and other realms will also be affected if Kaliban continues in his journey for revenge.

Lots of build up to the final epic battle, with new allies found and family brought into a danger zone, all in an effort to survive and protect those they love. Only at the end do you realise how young Ophelia herself is, as well as what she has had to contend with in the last few years since she met Sunny and Corrin. The finale has Ophelia and Corrin take part in many situations, from trying to find a high fae brave enough to even face the baby dragon in an effort to find a rider to bond with her, to figuring out how to stop more people following Kaliban and Triel, to persuading the dragons to join them and help mere mortals, and trying to stop any possessed fae being killed as they try to stop them. They know how easily they have been brainwashed and that they aren’t really their enemies, and are innocent in reality. Minor skirmishes go on all the time, as they try to work out what to do and try out each solution they can figure out along the way. Some romance, a surprising bond between young Starstriker and another, plus difficult and heartbreaking decisions to be made. If you love them enough, you must let them go, a very pertinent message from a widower to King Corrin, as he has to allow Ophelia to follow her own path. Sad to see it end, but lots of laughs and action along the way and a great storyline to follow. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Fuck yeah!!!!! The last one—and the one that promised the hardest battle our characters would ever face. Damn, the thing was the size of TEN dragons??? Are you kidding me? I’m also dying to know who Star Striker will bond with. My suspicion is Cricket, but deep down I wanted the baby to bond with Corrin’s and Ophelia’s future son or daughter… but since she has to bond immediately, and our main characters haven’t even slept together yet? Yeah… my dream will not come true sniffles dramatically.

The battle??? Damn, it was epic. Sometimes I felt breathless and genuinely worried—the book really immerses you. But honestly, there are parts that feel too Y/A, almost childish. Maybe the problem is me and the fact that I’ve read too much alien porn in my life, hahahaha. Seriously though, while the challenges were life-threatening, their resolutions often came too easily. I worried, yes, but deep down I knew nothing truly devastating would happen.

I adore how the dragons mirror their riders’ personalities. River is calm and strategic like Corrin—both warriors, both generals. But Ophelia and Sunny? Total hotheads. They act on impulse, throw themselves into danger, and in the end? Their recklessness saves the world. Hahahaha, I love them. And I was right about something big—but I won’t say what. Let’s just admit it was pretty obvious.

I liked this book a lot, but in the end, I felt it lacked something. The immersion is its greatest strength—the author is so good at pulling us in that even when Ophelia stressed me with her endless kindness and saint-like attitude, I couldn’t stop reading. Corrin? Even when he was being an idiot, I couldn’t stay mad at him for long. Ophelia? Always too understanding. They’re almost too balanced, too perfect for my taste—I like a little more chaos in my couples. But still, I’m happy for them.

And after six books? Bloody hell, these characters feel like family. I’ll miss them so much—they’ve carved out a special place in my heart, like fictional friends you can’t quite let go of. Saying goodbye leaves me with that bittersweet ache, but also happiness for their journey. Maybe I’m entering my villain era again, because the villain here? Poor thing… he was just another victim of shitty parents.

Without a doubt this is my favourite Ava series. Although all her books are a wonderful read, this series has something special that beyond Dragons. This series catapulted me from the human Realm to Charassi, a Realm in danger of being overtaken by Kaliban who was sealed away in the Heart of Realms. I can't put my finger on exactly why it's my favourite but perhaps it might have something to do with parents protecting their young. And not human parents but 2 awesome, fierce dragon parents. It could also be the coolest characters, Ophelia, Corrin and the very enigmatic Cricket. But I'm not going to delve into the reason why, I'm just going to accept this series has indeed conquered me, captured me and brought me a new sense of family, bonds and love.

I love how compassionate Ophelia is, she's always finding a reason to help rather than decimate and the growth in her character is phenomenal, although I do admit that Corrin's is even more so. Sunny and River are awesome Dragons, I love their commitment to Ophelia, Corrin and their baby but also to Charassi. Shoo, we all know being Monarchs of Dragons is no easy task, getting their subjects to listen and act is like pulling dragon teeth, slowly and painfully. Like geez guys, chop chop before the world disintegrates! But Dragons being Dragons....

With Kaliban breaking the shackles at an alarming rate and Triel roming the country sowing discontent, Ophelia, Corrin and the 2 monarch Dragons are hard pressed to come up with a solution, all the while trying to keep the cute baby dragon, Starstriker out of Kaliban's clutches. I enjoy how Ava brings the story to an almost there and then snatches it away to plunge me onto another path of dramatic events, almost as if she had a dial button, like on a gas stove that she was slowly turning one way and then the next, the flames flaring and receding by the flick of her wrist. Ava seems to delight in sneaking the unexpected in, just as one starts to get complacent, if I were on a dragon's back, I would have tumbled off in surprise!

I loved this series, I loved the characters and I always love the HEA Ava gives.

Brings It All Together So Masterfully!

Audiobook Review;
I believe this wraps up the story of the entire Charassi's Fae Queen series. Or at least, I haven’t seen this author's series extended beyond six books. I absolutely adored this series, as I do most by this author! This book has so many things to like about it. I loved how the heroine's Texas family figured so prominently in this book, bringing unique human abilities to help the magical realm of Charassi. The heroine's little sister has a special spotlight shone on her—loved both her sweetness and sass!—and she actually has a minor story arc herself. (In fact, I think she and the dragon hatchling deserve their own series showing what happens to them as they mature.) The young dragon in this story suffers so much through no fault of her own, and watching those affected by it—her parents, the king and queen, and the heroine's younger sister—was sweet and heartbreaking. The hero and heroine’s bond only deepens as they face peril and try to save their realm together. The epilogue is the perfect victory lap for the love story aspect of the series. I found the ancestral forces, first met at the end of the last book, an intriguing concept, and we meet them again at a pivotal moment in this one. For eternal forces that created the realms, they certainly have their Achilles heel! I've been fascinated by how magic is portrayed in this realm, weaving primal forces and elements into threads depending on what is needed for magical offense or defense. In the final scene, we fully understand what that power at the most profound level truly means and can do—such breathtaking things! I highly recommend this book and the entire series. While the author does provide background at the beginning of the book about what’s gone before in the series, you will far better appreciate all the relationships and what the characters are up against if you have read (or listened to) all the other books in this series in order. Highly recommended.

I received a free digital copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

"The Ancestral Forces," the sixth book in the Charassi's Fae Queen series by Ava Richardson, delves into a world on the brink of chaos as an ancient evil threatens to break free from its prison. The arrival of a new dragon hatchling named Starstriker should be a joyous occasion, but it instead puts the entire realm of Charassi in jeopardy.

Kaliban, a malevolent force of pure evil, has a mysterious connection to the young dragon and draws strength from her to carry out his deadly plans. If Kaliban succeeds in freeing himself from the Heart of the Realms, he will unleash destruction upon the Fae and all those who stand in his way. Queen Ophelia and King Corrin understand the grave danger and must make sacrifices to protect their realm, even if it means risking the safety of Ophelia's human family on Earth, who surprisingly play a pivotal role in the battle against Kaliban.

In a desperate bid to safeguard her people, Queen Ophelia embarks on a perilous journey to seek an ancient power capable of countering Kaliban's might. However, harnessing this ancient magic requires Ophelia to rise as the leader everyone desperately needs her to be. Time is running out, and Ophelia must embrace her destiny and rally her forces before it's too late to save Charassi.

"The Ancestral Forces" takes readers on a thrilling and epic adventure filled with magic, danger, and the ultimate battle between good and evil. With its engaging characters, rich world-building, and high-stakes conflicts, this book offers fans of the Charassi's Fae Queen series an enthralling continuation of the story while introducing new challenges, revelations, and the transformative growth of Queen Ophelia.

Facing Kaliban . . .

The Realm of Charassi is in imminent danger from the evil Kaliban who was sealed away in the Heart of Realms. The dragon hatchling Starstriker has inadvertently introduced danger to Charassi because Kaliban is taking Starstriker’s strength from her and using it for his own deadly plans. If Kaliban manages to get free, he will relentlessly destroy the Fae and any other obstacle in his path of destruction.

Queen Ophelia and King Corrin are doing everything they can to protect the realm. But Ophelia will have to find an ancient power somewhere that can match Kaliban’s power and overcome him. Will Ophelia make the sacrifice needed to control so much power? Will she become the leader she was always destined to be? Or is the Realm doomed to face total annihilation?

Wow, I loved this book! The characters are amazing and my favorite, outside of the Dragon and Fae Monarchs, is Starstriker and Cricket. I admire that Ophelia is willing to give her life, if it comes this, and thinks outside the box. I feel that Sunny also demonstrates, that he is also willing to give his life if necessary, and is crafty in battle. On the other hand, Kaliban appears haughty and arrogant. Who will survive the awesome battle scene? This action-packed story that’s filled with dragons, danger, Fae, magic, Heart of Realms, family, friends, love, mystery, ceremonies, Charassi, Ancestral Forces, priestesses, threats, suspense, mind control, royalty, battles, sacrifices, research, bravery, twists and turns and more!

The Ancestral Forces is the perfect conclusion for the Charassi’s Fae Queen series by Ava Richardson’s. Within the pages of this book, the main character grow and face new challenges not just as a leader, but also as a mentor and guardian. And I respect this is a coming of age story that is slightly different than meaning of Ava Richardson’s other books. He said she pulled it off, brilliantly well at the same time, including dragons and the riders. I have already begun. My second read through of the book and can’t wait to see how she manages to top The Ancestral Forces.

I love dragon books, especially ones with fabulous opening lines!

"Ophelia thought she had never in her life seen anything as adorable as a baby dragon, but evidently, not everyone shared that view."

Snarky and sardonic, witty and fun, with fae and dragon alike, this book is perfect for fans of Dungeons and Dragons and McCaffrey's Dragonriders.

It's a quick read, with a bit of mystery, Mindwalkers, and magic, and a whole lot of heart.

Oh, and I adore Cricket. Foster kids don't get enough page time, honestly. "There are bullies and mean people everywhere you go. You can't avoid them just by going somewhere else."

The final installment of this series is a wonderful book about importance of family, loyalty and trust.

The world building is perfect as usual. Charassi and the Heart of realms are beautiful places which are wonderfully described.

All the characters are different, it amazes me how the author describes all of them. She always has a good word for everyone.

I enjoyed this book very much. I think it's a wonderful ending of a wonderful story.

Great ending to an epic story. Ophelia and Corrin are forming a plan to take down Kaliban as he makes it into their realm. This book brings all the different people who live in Charissi together to fight to save their realm. Ophelia will make hard choices that could jeopardize her relationship with Corrin. This is the final book in the series and it ends with a happy ending after a lot of hard choices and growing up that Ophelia has had to do. I would recommend reading this series.

This is by far my favorite book in the Charassi's Fae Queen series. Ophelia, Corren, Sunny, and River are out to save the world again. They all must face different battles together and alone. The story is has adventure, excitement, and romance all rolled together to create a fantastic book. The end was quite interesting and as I do not want to reveal any details, I was waiting for the next big disaster to hit Charassi.

As Corrin and Ophelia fight to save Charassi from the evil that is Kaliban, Starstriker continues to grow and weaken from her connection with Kaliban! She has to bond with someone to save her life! This is the 6th book in this superb series. Queen Orphelia and King Corrin continue their quest to battle Kalaban. As with any Ava Richardson tale, the plot is fast paced and action packed. Sunny and River are doting parents - so nice to see this side to Sunny. Cricket and Starstriker are adorable. I highly recommend this series. 5/5 stars.

A+ series

This series was absolutely amazing. (Every book from Ava Richardson is amazing.) This series had a few twists and solutions I did not see coming but made perfect sense for the characters. Overall a great world. My only complaint is I’d like more books for the next 9,998 years of their lives.

Ophelia finds herself rushed to get the power that will save her people. This sends her on a journey that, if she succeeds, will make her the leader they need but if she fails it might lead to the end of her realm. The action is nicely paced and there is plenty of suspense to keep you interested.
