Being Buddha at Work: 108 Ancient Truths on Change, Stress, Money, and Success

Rate this book
There are lots of books that address how we should take care of ourselves, find calm, and enjoy happiness in a hectic work world. But few of those books apply the lessons of Buddhist thinking as resolution and guidance tools. These questions, though found in the modern day, are actually the core of all Buddha’s teachings – impermanence, suffering, and the quest for happiness (freedom from suffering). This makes Buddha the kind of consultant or coach we need today in our workplaces.

Following in the tradition of the authors' first bestseller, this work goes on to explore and answer 101 dilemmas that we encounter at work, with topics ranging from time management, goal-setting, conflict to job dissatisfaction, unemployment, and even workplace trysts. The authors emphasize practical learning and coping, not esoteric insights or metaphysics, applying concrete solutions from Buddhist teachings to real problems in easily digestible chunks.

An actionable and practical toolkit to approach work relations calmly, wisely and compassionately. This was a perfect combination of Eastern wisdom and Western work culture. This combination made it applicable to a wide range of audiences and is a must read / listen if work is frustrating. Pleasantly surprised!

I wish I had read this book about 40 years ago when I was focused on career and especially 15 years ago when I was trying to manage several difficult employees and a boss who wanted me to get more out of those difficult employees. My efforts were unsuccessful and my own behavior was ineffective and inappropriate. It is so simple, treat others like we would like to be treated but why do so few of us get it and consistently live it.

This book have good advice on how to handle the business, stress, money, co-workers and many more.

What's the definition of a Consultant? A Consultant is one who borrows your watch and then tells you what time it is.

All jobs are impermanent. Your job is not "yours" or anybody's. It arose according to conditions that had nothing to do with you, and it passes away when conditions change.

Hell is where we live when we spite the path of awakening and choose instead to be slaves to out desires.

This guy goes to a psychiatrist and says, "Doc, my brother's crazy- he thinks he's a chicken." And the doctor says. "Well, why don't you turn him in?" And the guy says, "I would but I need the eggs." Well, I guess that's pretty much how I feel about relationship. You Know, they're totally irrational and crazy and absurd and ... but I guess we keep going through it ... because ... most of us need the eggs.

Buddha knows that coworkers who lie are not bad people; they have just lived in an environment of lying for so long that they're blind to how much it harms them.

It is book that encounters with situations that we face in our daily life with work, family and friends then it gives us a solution on how we can tackle a situation just by changing your perspective towards situations. I found it very helpful , specially when I was completely out of shape. It has understandable language and I would recommend it to all the people who are feeling a bit like how do they deal with things which are going on and wants to read something fruitful . Simple and easy-to-read book, which teaches you how one could apply principales of Buddhism mindfully in their work life.

Some of the chapters and/or ideas were even too basic at times and didn't give too much value. I'd say it's more meant for the people who haven't read many business books before or who haven't been that in-depth with Buddha-life.

I've read many business books and also many spiritual & philosophical books. I came across this book just when I was browsing over the web for reading something more about Buddha.

I seriously think this is a must read book for people either who enjoy reading business books or spiritual books or for someone who just wants to read something good. It's written in a very simple manner and does make a lot of sense, though some parts of the book would rather be really tough to apply in today's world when your at work. But nonetheless one can try.

I particularly loved the way two monks from their conversation have explained the root of all evil, in a very humble and simplest manner. Go ahead and have a read through this one, am pretty sure it's got something for everyone.

I read one part/day as part of a morning meditation ritual, so I guess it took me 108 days to read it! The book is broken into 3 major sections, with several sub-topics under each and then several one-pagers under each of those. Like any book, some were better than others, some were spot-on and others were a bit of stretch. Overall, however, I found the relating of the principles of Buddhism to the realities of the modern work-a-day world was quite observant on the author's part and quite revealing.

This a great book.
As a fan of Buddhist philosophy, I think this is a wonderful bridge between timeless pearls of wisdom and our modern world. For me, and the people I coach, it's a great reminder of wiser choices and perspectives to make the world a more fulfilling place for all.
It's a really handy book for leaders and members of teams that want to make the modern workplace an even better place.
It's funny and triggers great reflections. Gem of a book.

This was a very good book, detailing how to deal with numerous work situations in a mindful manner. Where before I used to struggle with certain aspects of the workplace, Being Buddha at Work has shown me how to deal with them as the Buddha would have.

I loved reading this book during my lunch breaks. It calmed me down and centered me. There was one lesson I wasn't a fan of... but otherwise, loved it. I bought the book so I can keep rereading.
