As Zach's group pushes forward to return to the US mainland, his children grapple with Wendy's wound and what it means for their continued survival in Edge of Extinction Book 5.
A terrifyingly realistic post-apocalyptic adventure from #1 bestseller Mike Kraus!
In the frozen wasteland north of Alaska, a series of mega-rigs operated by joint USA/Russian teams go up in flames, killing thousands of workers and destroying a trillion dollars' worth of equipment.
After barely surviving the initial firestorm, mechanic Zach Christensen is trapped in the arctic, five thousand miles from his wife and children back home in Connecticut, struggling just to find enough fresh air to breathe, let alone the strength to find his way back home.
While governments try to hide the scope of the disaster, the fissures caused by the rigs continue to spread billions of tons of hydrocarbons into the atmosphere, spreading fires and toxins that are consuming not just the arctic, but the entire planet....

Taking the tropes of post-apocalyptic and simultaneously turning them on their head and masterfully playing to them, Kenny & Mike deliver a heart-pounding series that will both excite and terrify you with every turn of the page as you experience realistic characters and mesmerizing storytelling.
Welcome to my little space out on the web. I'm Kenny Soward, and I'm an author, musician, and once IT guy. I write books in many sub-genres of Science Fiction and Fantasy, including post-apocalyptic, military science fiction, epic fantasy, and horror. I'm influenced by authors such as Stephen King, George R. R. Martin, Anne Rice, J.K. Rowling, Mark Lawrence, Dan Simmons, Robin Hobb, Robert McCammon, Larry Correia, and Mike Kraus.
I love all kinds of movies and shows from Battle Star Galactica (reboot) to the Walking Dead. There's nothing I won't try.
I grew up in Kentucky in a small suburb just south of Cincinnati, Ohio, listening to hard rock and playing outdoors. In those quiet 1970's streets, I jumped bikes, played Nerf football, and came away with many scars.
My grandfather and many of my uncles and cousins served in the United States Military, and my father was a Kentucky State Trooper. Their efforts taught me the meaning of sacrifice and gratitude. I've always had an avid curiosity about the world around me, and I hope my enthusiasm for life carries over into my stories, even the dark ones.
Kenny So ward and Mike Kraus are exceptional storytellers.
Fighting not only frigid temperatures but Russian forces that are trying to destroy North America and Canada, you have people trying to take from you and to kill you. Humanity is hurting and so many haven't a clue how to survive. Trying to get out of Alaska by going through parts of Canada and eventually Washington D.C. before finding their own families if they are still alive is proving very dangerous. Can they do it? Time will tell.
Thank you for the recap of previous books. As with the other books, the writing and editing are both good. We also get some advancement of the plot for both the group in Virginia and Zach's group. I do find it a bit puzzling that Zach and his group have orders from the President to get Craig to the eastern US, the various military commanders they encounter all acknowledge those important orders, yet they just get encouragement, some supplies and a wave goodbye. No military assistance to help escort etc (I get they are stretched thinly). I look forward to book 6.
What a journey the main group has, trying to reach safety then head for home. Every step they take is fraught with danger, the possibility of death. While every member of the group is special in their own way my favourite is Grizzly. What a lovely bear of a man, a character that shines. I hope the next book comes out soon!
Can not put down the series but am disappointed that I can not find a hint anywhere as to when the next book will be published. The website given at the end of book 5 is not valid🤔 I hope we are not left hanging about how the main characters fare.
Once again, these two authors have done it again. Zach has hardly survived an explosion and is trapped in the Arctic , away from his family Action, danger and more. How will this all turn out. Will the survivors be able to get away to a safer place. Impossible to not binge read.
