Phoenix is about to realize the dream of a lifetime. Her small café in the heart of Edinburgh is ready to open. It's been years in the making, but it's been worth it. The opening is booming, and the café fills up with friends and family. But when Erin Miller shows up by surprise, it can only mean one trouble. Why is she back in Edinburgh? Phoenix doesn't quite remember how she came to be friends with someone like Erin Miller, the high school rebel girl, the same one who broke hearts without thinking about the consequences. One crazy night, some alcohol and something happened that Phoenix would rather forget forever. The next day, Erin disappeared...for six long years. What was she doing now at the opening of her café? Why did he still feel the same butterflies every time Erin Miller smiled? She says she's changed. Is that possible, and can someone like Erin Miller change? Does she deserve a second chance, or will she disappear again as she did six years ago?
What did I just read? A few typos throughout the story. The relationship between the two main characters was too toxic. There was not enough development for growth. The two main characters hadn’t seen each other in 6 years after an argument that had a physical altercation which was never resolved. Then they move in together after a month.
This story had potential but needed another 100 pages to flush out the issues. I almost DNFd the book but it was so short I figured I may as well finish it.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This is my first book by this author and while I did think the plot was a good one I just felt things were glossed over or solved/forgiven too quickly. One example what the issue with Sara. She was a friend of Phenoix since college and is just dropped in a blink of an eye. There was nothing to follow that fallout. Overall not a terrible read and a plus side is the book is a kindleUnlimited. I mat read other things from this author but I dont...
Read this book in one day and felt like I couldn’t read it fast enough. There was no growth with the characters and feel like it could have been made longer to show character development.
Mediocre, he leído mejores.
Poignant, and loving with enough anxiety and hot moments!
Clara Ann Simons has produced a delightful and enticing piece here. It is full of warmth and anxiety to bring real feelings into play if a bit contrived who cares it is a love story! Good characters and the setting can’t be beat.
This has a lot of potential. The characters are interesting with good dynamics but the plot jumps around a lot and seems too rushed. There isn't enough build up for the events to really hit emotionally. Plus the dialog is stilted and unnatural and the typos and continuity errors are distracting. It would be a solid first draft, but definitely needs some work.
The book was decent and a quick easy read, but i felt that it wasn’t written very well. the plot is good, but not executed very well. There’s no character growth or development and some of the details fell off or showed up out of nowhere but really didn’t have an impact on the overall story. Overall, not great but not necessarily bad.
Old friends, unrequited love, years apart, and then a second chance.
This is a gentle joyous story of someone discovering who she is and realizing that she should have always been with the friend who loved her since they were 16.
Unfortunately this book just really wasn't for me. I wanted to like it, but I feel like Phoenix and Erin didn't really work through their issues separately or together in a way that would actually make their relationship work.
