I bought this book in a book shop out of a so called "Kruschkiste". With a small amount of money as a apprentice I had to choose careful wich book to by. The "Werwelt" was about 1 to 5 DM then.
Why I choose this book. Because of the cover. And because it was cheep. The book is long and I found it very difficult in the first hand to read it.
It jumps between two characters all the time. Always binding the two lifeforms to each other.
In the end the book reveals the coming of the Werwolf or Wer-Alien.
If the book would be still in my Bookshelf at home I would give it another try to read it once more.
And thanks to goodreads I now know that there are more than on part. So I will try to read the other two parts also.
Since my first read end of 1980s til now nearly 30 have been gone.
The difference between the German edition and the English I can not tell. What I can say that I do read the book now with different eyes. My then read German edition was a compilation of all three books in one. The first edition of the English, I have finished now.
For the book. It’s in my opinion a book about growing. About adult hood. About starting to be a man. The beast may be a picture of the feelings inside a boy growing from child to man. Not thought about this in my first read. I think it’s underrated and should be read by more people, more young people.

May 19, 2023⁉️𝐕𝐢 è 𝐦𝐚𝐢 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐢 𝐚𝐛𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐮𝐧 𝐥𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐨 𝐜𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐨 𝐧𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐯𝐚 𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐯𝐨𝐢?
Sono fermamente convinta che non si ci debba obbligare alla lettura di un libro che non fa per noi. La lettura deve essere prima di tutto un piacere e obbligandoci a portare avanti un libro che non ci prende toglie la spensieratezza dello sfogliarne le pagine.
È per questo motivo che ho abbandonato “La trilogia della bestia”, serie fantasy horror di Robert Stallman edita @fanuccieditore , che ringrazio immensamente per la copia, e uscita in tutte le librerie e online il 21 aprile.
curiosità: nel 1981 “L’Orfano”, primo capitolo della trilogia, è stato nominato per il Nebula Award come miglior romanzo.
Trama:
La Bestia è una creatura della notte, un animale solitario con una folta e spessa pelliccia, occhi selvaggi e artigli affilati. Si trasforma nel piccolo Robert dopo un incontro sconvolgente in un fienile e viene adottato da una coppia di contadini. Una volta cresciuto e assunta una nuova personalità, sembra riuscire a controllare l'orribile sete di sangue. Ma questo comporta una nuova sfida: costruirsi una famiglia ed essere un uomo come tutti gli altri.
Le ragioni che mi hanno spinto a non proseguire con la lettura del libro sono principalmente:
💔Il ritmo davvero TROPPO lento. Va bene la suspence, che mi preoccuperei se in un horror non ci fosse, ma arrivata alla fine del primo libro non c’è stato praticamente nessun tipo di risvolto narrativo.
💔Pochi dialoghi, lunghe descrizioni del contesto in cui la bestia e il bambino vivevano di volta in volta.
💔Alternanza del pov della bestia e del pov del bambino in cui essa si trasforma senza soluzione di continuità. Questo continuo cambio di pov di paragrafo in paragrafo ha reso la lettura confusionaria e altalenante.
Non escludo che in un futuro potrei dare un seconda possibilità al libro com’è successo in altre occasioni. Magari non sono semplicemente nel mood o nel periodo giusto, quindi più avanti tenterò sicuramente di riprendere in mano questa lettura.
