After reading the book, I have a much clearer perception that organized attachment, also known as fearful-avoidant, is an insecure style of attachment with the major symptom being a fear of close relationships.
Taha Zaid's clear and relatable text on attachment styles truly resonated with me. The author masterfully explains how different attachment styles play out in relationships and their long-term impact. Reading this book really opened my eyes to how childhood experiences and traumas affect our emotions, beliefs, and interactions in almost every relationship we form. We are under the assumption that as adults, we form our own beliefs, but something deeper is always going on. I had never heard of disorganized attachment until I read this book and it taught me so much. It’s like searching for the perfect relationship and then pushing it away because you were scared to get hurt. If this sounds familiar to you, definitely check this book out if you want to work through it.
"The first step is learning how to actively work on yourself. By learning about your insecure attachment style and how your past trauma and experiences are coloring your emotions and decisions now. Once you are armed with that knowledge, it will be easier to recognize when your actions and reactions to a partner or situation are coming from a place of fear because of your disorganized attachment. That way you can take a step back from the situation, take a few deep breaths, and make a better decision based on the actual circumstances and not just your learned fear-based reaction to the things around you."
I'm working on past childhood trauma and what it means in my adult relationships. The more I study attachment styles, the more empathy I have for myself and others going through the same trials. This book helps explain the lesser known, but more complex attachment style of disorganized attachment. This style has elements of both anxious attachment and avoidant attachment. I highly recommend..
Reading this author’s books is like receiving a breath of fresh air! I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The absolute best thing about this, is not only helping to identify, but suggesting how to interact with said loved ones with this particular style. I highly recommend this book.
I was recently told I have disorganized attachment from my therapist. This book helped educate me (my husband is about to read it next to understand). There was so many things I had trouble explaining about myself that were covered in this book.
This dating coach has taken on the voice that many male psychologists have, which isn't a good one. There are under tones of sexism and racism in this book. It has some interesting and helpful parts, especially to gain more understanding and acceptance of a partner with DA.
Very powerful for recognizing a popular attachment issue found in a lot of people and showing you how to get to the root cause of that issue within yourself, or within your partner.
The book had some gems in places, but wasn’t earth-shattering. Many signs prescribed to the disorganized attachment style weren’t there. But there were definitely several good takeaways.
This book has great details and tools for disorganized/fearful-avoidant/anxious-avoidant attachment styles. It could use a new version with a fresh edit for the typos and redundancies.
Compared to other quick psychological profiling casebooks, this one was really good. It’s good for both someone with DA, and more importantly, is also made for the spouse of someone with it. It’s fairly non-repetitive and mainly full of good insights and explanations, with minimal “just do this and you’ll be better.” Honestly, I wish I had come across this book years, as I genuinely think it would have helped prevent my DA from ruining some relationships.
I really enjoyed reading this. It digs deep into the reasons as to why we react the way we do when it comes to relationships, especially those of us that resonate with this book. It digs into everything from childhood trauma to how we can control our reactions while we're adults. This is a wonderful blueprint how to alter the way you treat yourself and others around you, especially in relationships. This book is amazing and I know it will change lives. Highly recommend.
