The Ones Who Are Hidden

Rate this book
‘Your tattoo… it’s exactly like mine.’ She hesitates. ‘But – I’ve never noticed it before. I must have had it since I was little.’ The ink markings on both of them are delicate, barely visible. Interlinked triangles in the shape of a daisy. But how can two strangers have matching tattoos, they didn’t know they had?

With their parents gone and nobody left to ask, when Georgia and Oliver first come to amateur sleuth Millie Westlake for help with their daisy-shaped markings she thinks the tattoos are a joke. A funny, if unusual, link between two strangers. In the seaside town of Whitecliff, stranger things have happened – especially to Millie herself.

But then Millie finds an artist who remembers giving someone the same tattoo twenty years ago. Someone who spent years hiding in the isolated woods outside Whitecliff – the same place unidentified bodies were once found…

Even as Millie gets closer to answers, she witnesses a shocking robbery that changes everything. And as whispers of what happened in the woods decades ago become louder, how much danger will Millie, Georgia and Oliver put themselves in, to uncover the mystery of the daisy-shaped markings and the dark truth about their pasts?

This gripping and character-driven mystery read is perfect for fans of Faith Martin, Ann Cleeves and LJ Ross.

Gripping, hard to put down and mystery filled, The Ones Who Are Hidden, had me turning the pages wanting more!

Oliver discovers a small tattoo behind his ear that he never knew he had. He has no recollection of ever getting it. Stranger yet, he finds Georgia, a woman living nearby who has the same small tattoo behind her ear as well. Two people, two tattoos and a mystery about how they obtained them was intriguing and I had to know more. Georgia and Oliver call in Millie Westlake, an amateur sleuth to help them find answers.

Millie is also coping with being present during a robbery and is questioned about it. Like the previous books in the series, Millie is also dealing with her ex-husband and their custody arrangement.

This series just keeps getting better! Each new book in the series becomes my favorite. I enjoy the character development and mystery in each book. Plus, Wilkinson ends the book with cliffhangers which leaves readers wanting more!

I enjoyed the mysteries in this book and how things unfolded. This book progresses at a nice pace and there was never any downtime. Things get a little dicey as the twits and reveals come into play, and I found myself crossing my fingers hoping for the best!

This is a series which does not disappoint, and I have a feeling that Kerry Wilkinson is just getting warmed up!

Well written, gripping, shocking and hard to put down!

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

Whitecliff Bay Mystery Book 4

"You're tattoo.... It's exactly like mine." She hesitates. "But - I've never noticed it before. I must have had it since I was little." The ink markings on both of them were delicate, barely visible. Interlinked triangles in the shape of a daisy. But how can two strangers have matching tattoos they didn't know they had?

This series just keeps getting better. Millie is wondering why her son's music tutor, Oliver, and a woman he has never met before have matching tattoos on the same part of their bodies. Neither of them knew they had them, or how they got there. Millie, along with some help from ger godfather, Guy, decide to investigate to see if there is any significance to them.

The plotline is intriguing, gripping and well written. The characters are well developed and I'm really liking Millie and Guy. Yes, once again the story ends with a cliffhanger, I just hope we don't have to wait too long on the next installment. I think I've said this after every book - this is my favourite book of the series so far.

I would like to thank #Netgalley #Bookouture and the author #KerryWilkinson for my ARC of #TheOnesWhoAreHidden in exchange for an honest review.

OK, THIS one is hands down my favourite of the Whitecliff Bay mystery series so far. I loved every minute of it! The mystery was so much more intense, there is more at risk, we are given a few answers and we are teased with yet even more to come. But I'm sad to say there is yet to be a book 5 so now I will have to wait...

Oliver calls upon Millie for help when he discovers a tattoo of sorts behind his ear. He's never had a tattoo, has never been drunk enough to recall even getting one and knows nothing about it. What's even weirder is that he has come across a woman in nearby Steeple's End who has the same tattoo behind her ear as well...also without any knowledge of having gotten it. Of course Millie loves a good mystery and sets about unravelling this one with relish.

She meets Oliver when picking up her son Eric from guitar lessons that her ex Alex has signed him up for. Eric shows no real interest in guitar, or any other activity Alex signed him up for, and Millie has to wonder why he signed him up for all these after school activities if he shows no interest in any of them. She can only think the same as she did when her parents did that same to her - because they wanted her out from under their feet. Which begs the next question...why fight Millie for custody if he doesn't really want the toy he's fought for in the first place? Because it's not about Eric - it's about Millie. He just doesn't want her having custody. A bit petty and not very adult when he is supposed to be setting an example. Eric would be better off with Millie but the question is, will she ever get custody?

So accompanying Oliver, he and Millie set out to meet Georgia who also has the tattoo. They in turn decide to question a tattooist which leads them to a grumpy old git and then an old market stall and then...a dead end. With no idea where to turn next, they are left with one option. Oliver must speak to his mother. But that is no easy feat. In fact, she claims ignorance and changes the subject but the very next day, she's off out of the house for the first time in years and Oliver is frantic with where she may have vanished to. Until he sees her coming out of the house a few doors down from where they used to live when he was a child. But when he tries to knock, the door is slammed in his face. What is the big secret? And why are they keeping it from him?

With no other avenue, Millie and Oliver turn to Guy whose filing system of four decades of newspapers leaves a little to be desired. But if there is something to be found, it will be there...somewhere. They just have to find it. And when they do...then what? Nothing will prepare them for the torrent that is about to be rained upon them.

Another winner from Kerry Wilkinson in this fantastic new series that just keeps getting better and better. So far I have read all four of the books back to back and each of them have gotten progressively better than the previous one. This one finishes on yet another cliffhanger...which ended at the bottom of the page and when I flipped it I was like "NOOOOOO! You can't end there!" Just when I thought we were getting the answers...

So much happened in this book, in more ways than one. With one mystery this time round which is the sole focus, and this time Guy takes a back seat with Millie and Oliver playing the main roles, the second mystery is a robbery in which Millie finds herself involved. But in this installment we also get a few answers for which we've been waiting...and are kept waiting with the others. Millie finally stands up to Alex and gives it to him both barrels, though she is firm she is also fair. Rachel, I'm pleased to say, featured very little. Thank goodness. The woman gives me a migraine.

There is one issue I had with the book though. This story takes place about five months after the previous one and in that time Isaac, the adopted little boy of Jack and Rishi, somehow gained an extra two years! In this book he is now six yet at Christmas five months previously he was four. Even if he had had a birthday in between, he still wouldn't have gotten that much older. And the age wasn't a misprint because it was mentioned that he was six several times in conversation between Millie and Jack.

That aside, THE ONES WHO ARE HIDDEN is the best book of the series yet! Ironically, the subject is one that is never a favourite topic of mine but the way in which it was written and presented was made all the more interesting. Rather than the luring of, we have Millie and Oliver seeking the answers to something which happened many years before. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait for book 5 where I hope to gain some of those answers that were dangled in the closing paragraphs...

I would like to thank #KerryWilkinson, #Netgalley and #Bookouture for an ARC of #TheOnesWhoAreHidden in exchange for an honest review.

Hands down, my favourite of the series so far!

“‘Your tattoo… it’s exactly like mine.’ She hesitates. ‘But – I’ve never noticed it before. I must have had it since I was little.’ The ink markings on both of them are delicate, barely visible. Interlinked triangles in the shape of a daisy. But how can two strangers have matching tattoos, they didn’t know they had?”

Hooked?

THIS is Wilkinson’s signature style. THIS is why I read his books.

I mean…REALLY?! How can you have a tattoo you don’t know about? Why does a stranger have the same one?! Who put them there?!

I wanted to slap Alex for his petty behaviour, cheer on Millie for standing up for herself, and ignore my suitcase that needs unpacking so that I could feverishly read to find out more about the tattoo mystery.

This series keeps getting better!

I was gifted this copy by Bookouture and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

This series is getting better and better.
When Millie is asked to help Oliver find out about a mysterious tattoo behind his ear, she’d never imagine the situation they end up in.
Georgia has the same tattoo but neither of them know why. They didn’t get it themselves, so how did it get there?
Millie also witnesses a robbery in a shop which shakes her up and makes her realise what’s important.
She is still pushing Alex to give her custody of Eric but it seems he’s not willing to budge until Millie confronts him with a revelation.
This is a great mystery thriller that will have you racing through the pages to find out what happens next.
A great series.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

I've come to realise that sometimes we might absolutely LOVE an author BUT not every series/book.

I've devoured previous books - The Boyfriend, The Girl Who Came Back... - BUT I just can't seem to get into the Whitecliff Bay series and have realised it's just not a series for me.

It most definitely doesn't put me off the author, just this series personally, I think purely for the fact that I can't connect with any of the characters and the pace feels too slow to grab my attention.

Thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.

When hidden daisy tattoos drive in a Gora phobic to leave her home Millie knows the story has to be bigger than she first thought but like always Millie has other issues Guys nephew is back and tries to disparage him to Millie Millie also finds out that Alex and Rachel are expecting a baby and since she is taking over most of the parenting duties she asked Alex for custody of Eric but of course he will not give up control that easy. She’s hanging out with Jack and Richie still but has reservations about all that she knows when it comes to Jack and his loyalty I love the continuing saga of Millie Westlake in the strange but oh so interesting mysteries she gets involved with it like always even though she witnessed a robbery that will not be the most dangerous situation to find herself in in the fourth book of the White Cliff Bay mysteries I always want to say more than I should in these reviews I absolutely love these books and find the mysteries she involves herself in to be so interesting and it’s not always just the main mystery but the subplots that move the story along from book to book and chapter to chapter Kerrie Wilkinson has definitely found herself a winner with these books in this character I love that instead of a romance it was a girl in her mentor and although neither one are perfect they essentially are and I love them so much Guy and Millie makes for such a great duo and I love that Guy solves most of the mysteries the way they did back in the day and his old school archives play a pivotal part in these modern mysteries. If you love cozy mysteries that or not so cozy but gripping and intriguing then you will love The White Cliff Bay Mysteries by Carrie Wilkinson It truly is mysteries for the thinking reader. Whip lovable characters in great dialogue you cannot go wrong with these books. Another five star read by such a great author. I received this book from Net Galley and Bookoucher but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

This is my first introduction to author Kerry Wilkinson and the Whitecliffe Bay Mysteries and it was certainly an engaging one.

As protagonist Millie helps search for answers when her sons guitar teacher Oliver weirdly asks her to look behind his ear. The reason being he has discovered a tattoo that he has no recollection of ever getting and he wants to know where it came from. So when he learns somebody else in the area also has one he arranges to meet them and Millie tags along.

And together Millie, Oliver and Georgia go in search of answers and end up learning things they could never of imagined. But that's not the only mystery Millie ends up involved in when she witnesses a robbery on her way home.

And with a character driven storyline, plenty of mystery and some really great characters. This was an enjoyable introduction to the series, and I'll certainly be looking out for more in the series especially as this one ends with a slight cliffhanger.

My thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an early copy of The Ones Who Are Hidden

Well, this is the fourth one in the series, and sadly the last one for the time being. Once again, I absolutely loved this book, and the characters are definitely coming into their own, and we are getting more and more of an insight into their lives.

This time, it’s more focused on Millie and she seems to be the one, with a little help from Guy to try and find out what these two marks are behind the ears of two people, Oliver and Georgia. These two persons don’t know each other, so what is the connection?

As the story progresses, Millie is finding out more and more about her friends and what has happened in their lives, and of course she is still battling with her odious ex husband over Eric.

I, personally can’t wait for the next one. Absolutely loved this series. My thanks to Kerry, the publishers and Netgalley for this ARC.

In The Ones Who Are Hidden, Kerry Wilkinson weaves a suspenseful mystery that keeps readers on their toes. The central premise of matching tattoos and the search for their origin serves as the foundation for a more complex and dark story. The parallel track of a robbery adds an extra layer of intrigue and keeps the readers engaged. While the main mystery is somewhat predictable, it has enough twists to keep things interesting.
Millie's character development continues in this book as she becomes more assertive and takes control of her life. The supporting characters, such as Oliver, are well-developed and add depth to the story. The author also sets up potential plotlines for future books in the series, making readers eager to continue following Millie's adventures.
Overall, The Ones Who Are Hidden is a well-written and engaging mystery novel that is perfect for fans of the genre. While it can be read as a standalone, it is recommended to read the previous books in the Whitecliff Bay Mystery series to fully appreciate Millie's character arc and the ongoing storylines.

This story has so much going on. Several mysteries arise that main character, Millie is trying to figure out. There are a lot characters throughout the story…..keeping them all figured out can be a bit tricky.
I love seeing the growth in Millie’s character. I was happy to see her stand up for herself more and more. I cheered during a few moments where she stood up for herself.
Looking forward to the next installment in the series. I am totally invested in Millie and her life!
This is book 4 in the A Whitecliff Bay Mystery series. Can this be read as a standalone? Though you could read it as standalone, I highly recommend reading the previous books in the series. There is just so much back story to the main character, Millie, that is important to know about.
Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

I received a copy of this book for free, and I leave my review voluntarily.

Kerry Wilkinson is originally from the county of Somerset; Kerry spent way too long living in the north of England, picking up words like 'barm' and 'ginnel.' When he's short of ideas, he rides his bike, hikes up something, or bakes cakes. When he's not, he writes it all down.

“No more.”

Millie is once again caught up in a mystery that only seems to draw her in as she digs into it. Millie is also ready to stop playing nice and start taking what she wants.

THIS SERIES IS SO GOOD. I really hope there is another book because the ending of this one has me screaming.

I love this series so much. The story flows so smoothly; Kerry is a phenomenal storyteller. I love Millie. She is so fierce! I love Guy; he is brooding and witty.

This storyline was spooky, but I loved how it unfolded. The mystery pulls you in before shooting you out again. The pacing was so smooth, and the plot was engaging.

This series is so fantastic. This would make such a great television series!

One Liner: It gets better!

Oliver and Georgia have identical tattoos behind their ears. Neither is connected to the other and remembers how they got the tattoo. When Oliver asks Millie to help solve the puzzle, she agrees to help. They find an artist who remembers the tattoo design and gives them a name to follow up.

Soon, they realize that something more sinister has happened in the past, and it is far from over.
In the parallel track, Millie happens to be in a store where a robbery occurs. She is shocked but tries her best to help find the culprit. Yet, she is unsure of the details until things began to fall into place. Of course, Millie also has to deal with her personal issues and decide if she wants a confrontation.

The story comes in Millie’s third-person POV.

My Thoughts:

Similar to the previous books, this one also has multiple tracks going simultaneously. However, Guy has a limited role, with Millie and Oliver doing most of the investigating.

It’s nice seeing Millie become a little more assertive and try to take control of her life instead of letting others override her. I’m relieved that she takes a small step in handling her ex-husband. Hope she continues to stand up for herself.

The main mystery is a little predictable but has a couple of twists to keep the readers interested. The theme, as such, is something I’m not too fond of, though this one focuses more on emotions.

The parallel robbery track is simpler but aligns with her personal life, giving her a greater insight into the issue. The track with Guy and Craig also progresses. It’s not over yet. There could be a few more reveals lined up.

Jack and Rishi seem to be having issues, though we’ll have to see how they will sort things out (or if they will). I’m not sure about the time jump and ages (there seems to be some mismatch, which I hope the editors will sort out in the final copy).

Staying true to the series theme, this book, too, ends with a cliffhanger about Millie’s next move (I have a guess, so let’s see if I’ll be right). The cases are solved, so that shouldn’t be a problem if you choose to read this as a standalone. Though I recommend reading the previous books to understand Millie’s character arc.

To summarize, The Ones Who Are Hidden is a decently paced mystery with some answers and more questions left for the next book. I can’t wait for the next book in the series. This series is getting stronger, for sure.

Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture, for the eARC. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.

Kerry Wilkinson, The Ones Who Are Hidden (A Whitecliff Bay Mystery Book 4), Bookouture, May 2023.

Thank you, NetGalley, for providing me with this uncorrected proof for review.

Kerry Wilkinson has once again combined appealing continuing characters, Millie (and her son Eric, and divorced husband and his new wife) and Guy (and his nephew), with a new mystery that they must solve. At the same time, their stories are given more substance with each interaction between them and their family members. Some continuing stories reach resolution, cleverly associated with issue brought to the fore through the investigation, while new questions arise – hopefully, another book in the series will be written to resolve these. In the meantime, Kerry Wilkinson has begun writing other material (the Sleepover series) so we might have to wait. For me, the manner in which Wilkinson raises issues, and uses the continuing characters’ development as well as the new investigations to resolve these, is worth the wait.

This work brings together Millie and Guy in an investigation that has its genesis thirty years in the past. Oliver, Eric’s guitar teacher finds a tattoo behind his ear and meets with another person with a similar tattoo. They were victims of a cult when they were babies, and one sinister adult member of the cult remains intent on reprisals against them and the woman who rescued them. Other story lines also link with past relationships and actions and are played out alongside the mystery of the tattoos.

Wilkinson’s characters remain appealing, even after questions are raised about their honesty and motivation. Millie is left with serious questions about some of her friends. However, she finds the strength to deal not only with this, but the most serious issue in her life, custody of her son Eric. From Book 1, of the Whitecliff Bay Mysteries Millie has evolved from a character whose life is precarious because of the death of her parents, and questions about her role in this and her affair and its impact on her personal and economic status. She has become a successful investigator as part of her friendship with Guy and has dealt with a close friend’s duplicity. She has found answers to some of her questions, and those that remain are worth pursuing. I hope that Kerry Wilkinson returns to Whitecliff Bay to answer these as I have found the series a genuinely engaging read.

Firstly I do recommend you start with The One Who Fell and read the other two books in order before you carry on with this one. If you haven't already read the previous books, or if you haven't read my reviews of them, I will repeat...
Warning! This publisher is renown for back filling books with ads etc. The copy I read ended VERY early. So you don't get caught out, I would really recommend that you find out where the story ends in the version you are reading before you start!
Also, this author has a passion for cliffhangers. I hate them, I see them as nothing but unnecessary blackmail and totally avoidable. But I also like his books so I guess I have to suck it up!
With all the above in mind I wasn't completely sure I would carry on but, all things considered, the positives outweighed the negatives... It wasn't a hard decision to be honest.
So... in this, her fourth outing, Millie is approached by Oliver who is a bit concerned about a strange tattoo behind his ear that he has only just discovered and that he has no knowledge of receiving. He has also heard of another person with the same tattoo, Georgia, again no prior knowledge before hers was also discovered. Millie is initially as confused as the two of them but agrees to investigate... Obviously - it'd be a very short book if she didn't...!
Again this story hit the ground running and got off to a good start. The author is a favourite of mine basically cos he subscribes to the no nonsense school of writing - included great banter and witty observational skills but leave out the waffle and padding. This way the story gets on with itself very well indeed. His characterisation is also spot on, he really must spend every waking hour that he isn't writing people-watching!
The story is both interesting and intriguing. The main reason I love his books, and the main reason I will keep on reading this and any other books he publishes. While we are on the subject of any other books, I do really miss Andrew... any chance of him making a comeback, please?
My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of The Ones Who are Hidden, the fourth novel to feature dog groomer and occasional investigator of “odd things” Millie Westlake, set in the fictional coastal town of Whitecliff.

Oliver and Georgia, two people who don’t know each other, both have a tattoo behind their ear. Both swear that they have never had a tattoo done and want Millie to find out how they got them and when. She finds a link to the woods outside Whitecliff, a mysterious fire and several unidentified bodies. All this while processing the shock of being involved in an armed robbery.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Ones Who are Hidden, which builds the whimsical discovery of a tattoo into something much bigger and darker. The novel has a cosy feel as it’s wrapped up in Millie’s life, but what happens is anything but.

The joy of this series is that it is all about Millie, and, yet, the reader knows next to nothing about her. She had an affair and lost her marriage and custody of her son. Why she had an affair is a secret only she and the reader know. Then she was suspected of killing her parents, although the official verdict is suicide. Nobody except her knows the truth and she isn’t saying. She seems to breeze through life, not confronting the various issues she knows about. This novel is a game changer in that respect as a new bolder Millie appears, one who is ready to fight and is possibly darker than the rather anodyne figure she usually presents. I’m team Millie and can’t wait to see what she does next.

I loved the way the author built his plot. It starts with the silly, a tattoo Oliver hadn’t noticed in his 30 odd years of life and gets quite dark and dangerous as they discover more about the origins of it, culminating in a shocking standoff back where it started. There is a weird juxtaposition of this darkness with the everydayness of Millie and her life, where she frets about her friends and wants custody of her son.

The Ones Who are Hidden is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.

The Ones Who Are Hidden by Kerry Wilkinson is the fourth book of the
Whitecliff Bay mysteries, a new series by this brilliant author. I have enjoyed this series from the very first book called "The One Who Fell"
I love the character Millie Westlake.
When Oliver discovers a small tattoo behind his ear, he does not remember going to have this done. He has never been drunk enough to remember staggering into a tattoo parlour to have this done!! Oliver
calls on Millie Westlake to help him find out when he got this. When Millie looks at his small tattoo, they find someone else has the same tattoo, behind her ear, a woman called Georgia in nearby Steeple's End. She does not remember getting it done. The tattoo on both of them is of a delicate, but barely visible. Interlinked triangles in the shape of a daisy.

How can two strangers have matching tattoos, they didn’t know they had?

Millie finds an artist who remembers giving someone the same tattoo twenty years ago. Someone who spent years hiding in the isolated woods outside Whitecliff, which is the same place unidentified bodies were once found…................

When Millie gets closer to answers, she witnesses a shocking robbery that changes everything. And as whispers of what happened in the woods decades ago become louder, how much danger will Millie, Georgia and Oliver put themselves in, to uncover the mystery of the daisy shaped markings and the dark truth about their pasts?

WoW! This book is So Good I found it hard to put it down and do my house cleaning and cook our tea.......So glad for Take aways!!!!
I highly recommend this series......Its been a roller coaster ride!

Big Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The fourth book in the series & whilst it could be read on its own there are several ongoing threads so I’d recommend starting at the beginning. This series started slowly & with each book it's just got better & better, the relationships have grown & developed especially Millie’s relationships with Guy & Jack plus she's becoming more forceful with ex Alex. A well written well paced book with strong characters. The mystery surrounding the tattoos is intriguing & had me on the edge of my seat, the robbery has a surprising solution. I look forward to the next book as there are still secrets to be revealed
My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

The fourth book in the Whitecliff Bay Mystery series, The Ones Who Are Hidden, is most definitely a book I was waiting for after finishing the third. I was looking forward to rejoining Millie in Whitecliff and catching up with her.

This is a series that I recommend you read in order. If only to truly understand the characters, Millie herself has had a complicated life, especially over the past few years, and the previous books explore some of what has happened.

This is a series that just seems to get better with every book. In The Ones Who Are Hidden, the guitar teacher of Millie's son Eric shows her a tattoo that he has behind his ear he has no clue how it got there. Millie, being Millie, let's her curiosity take over and finds herself digging up much more than she bargained for.

Kerry Wilkinson writes such intriguing stories, be it mysteries or psychological thrillers. His characters are like friends, well, Millie definitely is. I liked that Millie is growing as the series goes on. She is coming into her own, slowly but surely. I think it's about time she started defending herself, so I loved her doing this in this book.

I started reading this and again was hooked from the first page right to the last. The mystery had me glued to my Kindle, and the twists did what they should. I was guessing right up to the end. As I expect from this series now, it was a cliffhanger ending that just left me in anticipation for book five! Another excellent instalment by Kerry Wilinson. Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the ebook in exchange for an honest review.

The fourth novel of the series builds on the ones before with another original and intriguing mystery for Millie Westlake to solve, alongside her continuing personal challenges. It starts with a call from Oliver, who has a strange tattoo behind his ear. He’s found someone else in the neighbouring town with the same markings. Despite her reservations, Millie offers to help, calling on Guy, her Godfather and former journalist.

As she digs deeper, uncovering a former commune and cult in nearby woodland, personal problems threaten to derail her enquiries. She’s a witness to a robbery that affects her more deeply than she expected. Her relationship with her former husband deteriorates as she seeks custody of their son, Eric. Then Guy is attacked and robbed.

It’s a familiar mixture of mystery and testing relationships as Millie uncovers answers to some deep and longstanding personal issues. Her growing confidence and realisation that she can make a difference drives the backstory and mystery investigation, leading to some highly emotional and moving moments alongside the rough and tumble of life.

The stories are beautifully written and constructed. The characters are sharply drawn and pull you in to root for them as they face the challenges of everyday life. Millie is complex, flawed but always intriguing. You want her to get the justice she deserves. Yet, hovering in the background, is an even deeper mystery that could change everything.

It’s tense, funny and full of surprises. I hope the author writes more books in the series as they’re too good to finish with this one.

This is the fourth book in the ‘Whitecliff Bay’ series by author Kerry Wilkinson. I have to be honest this series has grown on me and I struggled a little with the first two books but now I am fully committed.

The story starts with the mystery of the interlinked triangle tattoos and the question of how two strangers could have the same tattoo without ever noticing it before. As the story unfolds, amateur sleuth Millie Westlake helps Georgia and Oliver unravel the mystery of their matching tattoos. The seaside town of Whitecliff has an history of strange occurrences and unexplained things and Millie is always keen to delve into them.

The characters have grown on me with Millie Westlake the pick of them. This cosy mystery novel is a very good read and I enjoyed the way the mystery unfolded and how the pieces of the puzzle slowly came together. Every time I thought I had it figured out, a new twist was thrown in that kept me guessing until the very end. The characters were well-drawn and relatable, and I found myself rooting for Millie, Georgia, and Oliver as they worked to uncover the truth about their pasts.

This is a very good addition to a series that seems to be going from strength to strength. It’s a well-written, suspenseful novel and another success for author Kerry Wilkinson.

I would like to thank both Netgalley and Bookouture for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

The fourth in this new series from Kerry Wilkinson. Another mystery that falls into Millie’s lap and a crime that directly affects her. Oliver, who is teaching her young son to play the guitar shows her a strange tattoo behind his ear that he has no idea how it got there. Curiosity gets the better of Millie and so begins a search for answers that uncovers much more than she could have imagined. Also, being in the wrong place at the wrong time leads her to be witness to an unnerving crime. Once again Millie is at the centre of events and with now regular characters continuing to appear, this series has a lot of interest. Her friend and Godfather Guy seems to have secrets as do friends Jack and Rishi. Her ex husband also continues to be holding the moral high ground when it comes to custody of their son, Eric. A great series, nothing lengthy or too complex, with great characters all of whom have interesting back stories that are gradually revealed through each book. Kerry Wilkinson has surely another hit on his hands and with each book leaving an unanswered question at the end, he knows we will have to read the next one. I for one, am not complaining and look forward to number five.

The Ones Who Are Hidden by Kerry Wilkinson

I received an advance review copy for free thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Blurb

My Opinion

The Ones Who Are Hidden is the fourth book in the Whitecliff Bay Mysteries but it can be read as a standalone. A fast-paced thriller that was easy to read. A great addition to the series.

Kerry Wilkinson has done it again! The Ones Who are Hidden, book four in the Whitecliff Bay series is another excellent mystery read and is the best yet!

Amateur sleuth, Millie Westlake, once again finds herself in the middle of not one mystery but two. When Oliver, her sons guitar teacher, asks her if she likes weird things she isn’t sure what he wants. She learns Oliver and another woman have daisy tattoos behind their ears but have no idea how or when they were placed there. He would like her help finding out what it means. While stopping in a store on the way home, the store is robbed by a man wearing a baklava. Millie is questioned by the police but can’t identify the man. She can’t let either mystery go until she has the answers.

The story is filled with the same great characters and you learn a little more about them. I liked that Millie stands up for herself a little more in this book. It’s about time. . I keep hoping with each book in the series that Millie’s secrets will finally be revealed but yet. I can’t wait for book five where I hope we will learn the answer to the question everyone wants to know-Did she kill her parents?

I was wondering what else the author would pull out of the hat to surpass the other parts of this series and whether it was even possible to take things a step further. Well, somewhere deep down I had secretly hoped and expected that he would be capable of doing so.

Every time I thought: this is my favorite book, but I kept having to adjust that idea because the most recent part surpassed the rest.

When the story began, I immediately had a suspicion about what the tattoos were about. I was very curious to find out the truth behind them.

The book is very well constructed, gradually lifting the veil on the mystery. It’s not only captivating but also has a high emotional value that at times gave me a lump in my throat.

Millie remains a top character, and I’m very glad she puts herself in the spotlight and uses the information she has to confront certain people with the facts.

Once again, the author keeps readers captive by ending the book with a cliffhanger.

The books were published two years ago, but I still remain hopeful that a new installment will follow.

I can't give this book anything less than 5 stars. Super good book in a fantastic series.

Thank you.

Millie again finds herself embroiled in mysteries. Oliver and Georgia find strange tattoes behind their ears, and it is a link to something that happened years before.

Millie also witnesses a robbery, while she in a shop, and is really unnerved, and more so when a woman, Karen, approaches her and asks her to tell the police that her boyfriend was not involved.

I really enjoyed this fourth book in the series about Millie and Guy, although Guy was not as involved in the investigations this time.
He had his own problems to contend with.

Millie is fast becoming a very loved character to me. She is interesting and has many secrets that are slowly being revealed.

I cannot wait for the next instalment, Kerry Wilkinson! You keep leaving a cliffhanger, and I need to KNOW!!! I need to know all the secrets!

I definitely can recommend this series, it is fast paced, and keeps one on the edge of one's seat.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Having been totally hooked on the first three books in the series I was delighted not to have to wait ages for the next one to come along! Millie Westlake is collecting her son from his guitar lessons when his teacher Oliver shows her a small mark behind his ear he'd not noticed before. On closer inspection it looks like a crude tattoo of a daisy. When a woman living close by has an identical tattoo it becomes a mystery that needs answers. Again Millie calls on Guy & his extensive archive of Whitecliff news for help & they uncover something none of them could have guessed.

This book takes the spotlight off Guy as Oliver & Millie do most of the sleuthing. It was a pleasure to meet the various characters again. One of the things I like about these books is the life that goes on around the mystery & the development of events in their lives. It was a very enjoyable read & I hope it won't be too long before we return to Whitecliff. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.

This is #4 in the Whitecliff Bay Mysteries but can easily be read as a standalone.

Millie’s young son, Eric, has guitar lessons and, one day, his teacher – Oliver – asks Millie to look behind his ear. Millie is bemused but Oliver shows her a tiny tattoo of a daisy. However, Oliver insists that he’s never had a tattoo and he has no idea how he came to have this one, especially as he’s only just found about it when his girlfriend spotted it. Knowing that Millie gets involved in ‘weird stuff’, he thought she was the best person to ask for help.

Then Oliver discovers that someone else, Georgia, has the same tattoo in the same place. She has never knowingly had a tattoo and has no idea of the how or why behind it. Oliver takes Millie with him to meet Georgia and then they start on the hunt for answers.

An interesting and novel storyline that kept me interested and gripped.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for an advance reader copy in return for an honest review.
