You are cordially invited to the Wedding of Jinx and Emory.
Unfortunately, so are the Connection. A shocking arrest throws the guests into disarray and threatens my happily ever after. I think I can calm things down but they quickly go from bad to worse when I’m hauled bodily away from my own wedding.
Betrayed, alone and furious – I have plenty of time to plot my revenge. They’re not even going to see me coming. Whoever said revenge is a dish best served cold didn’t know a damned thing. Revenge is hot and fiery and I’m going to rain hell on the ones responsible for tearing me away from Emory on our wedding day.
A daemon is stalking the Other Realm, and enough is enough. It’s time to bring him down, to the depths of hell where he belongs. Hell hath no fury like a women scorned.
Start running daemon, I’m coming for you, and Emory is holding my bag.
Burn through this fun, fast-paced, laugh-out-loud mix of urban fantasy and mystery.
This is the seventh book in the Other Realm series. Don't miss this internationally best-selling series if you like humour, heart, a strong heroine and a slow burn fade-to-black romance.
The adventure continued with an almost predictable outcome but who cares? Not me! I loved how things panned out and I still adore how the books reading order pulls in the characters from the stories that branched out... I must admit, I am so excited to move on to Amber's story and I know Jinx, Emory, Lucy and the others will still be brought into the story lines... ❤️
Well, if I'm honest, there's a lot I didn't like about this.
Firstly, the dragons. I'm going to be frank: the dragons make me feel like I want to be Team Anti-Crea. Aside from Emory, they are all utterly horrible and need to be knocked out of power. The only other dragon we've met who seems to maybe not be an asshole is Tobias, sad guard of the hoard, but we interacted with him for all of 2 min so I'm going to go ahead and assume if we got more with him, we'd find out he's a complete bag of shit, just like every other dragon who isn't Emory.
And so I don't WANT Emory and Jinx to rule them. Fuck them. They deserve to sit in their castle drinking tea while it is blown up around them. (I can't even believe that scene ... self-absorbed, entitled assholes.) They - and their stupid, pretentious bullshit - deserve to be utterly ruined by the rest of Other society. So the inevitable end of this book was irritating to me. Fuck the dragons. They are so evil and self-absorbed they didn't even notice that one of them had become a literal demon. Probably didn't change his behavior much, to be honest - they're all murderous, elitist assholes, so I can't imagine a demon possession would cause noticeably different behavior.
Wipe them out, imo.
Speaking of people to wipe out: the Connection. It is time for that to end. They have proven to be so corrupt that they are cartoon villains. It is nonsensical to believe that anyone in Other society would put up with this - you're talking about super powerful magical beings. The Connection isn't filled with the most powerful, it is filled with corrupt, fragile magical humans who are so scared of the other magical beings that they are bullies trying to assert power. Time to end that whole thing.
Another thing: I could do without the FMC being captured and tortured TWICE. Once was bad enough, and frankly a bit out of character for this series which has generally been pretty happy, clean, light reading. Twice? With increasing brutality? Why? And furthermore, if you're going to do that, you have GOT to dial up the consequences. See my earlier point about the Connection. This was a sanctioned activity, these fuckers had badges. It isn't enough to just smash the Anti-Crea, you have to smash the Connection into fucking shards. They've overstepped to the point of being fucking evil stormtroopers. It's time to crush that organization and put something better in its place ... like a council of representatives from each species, or something, with EQUAL voting power and a law enforcement force with inter-species teams.
It feels like the world of this series is super full of problems, and the leads play whack-a-mole to handle the problem but never ever address the core issues.
Also, I don't know if there was a big gap in writing between the Glimmer arc and the Court arc, but Jinx and Emory changed dramatically between them and not in a good way. Emory suddenly had no moral compass - his people could do whatever they wanted because it's tradition, even if he doesn't like it. Look, fucker: are you the ruler or not? Yes? Then you're responsible for all the bullshit you allow. And then you have Jinx, who suddenly had no spine. In the Glimmer books she was didn't allow anyone to treat her badly, standing up to the Connection and getting shit done. Watching her just turn into this submissive vacuum who sucks up all the shit the dragons throw at her...it was gross. Even worse was characters lecturing her to be the bigger person and not antagonize them. What? What? She's being shit on by them constantly and you're going to give her stink-eye for not being polite? Fuck you too, then. This dynamic made me deeply dislike several characters that I know we're supposed to like (i.e., no, I wasn't that sad when Mike died - hooray for being free from his condescending chastising bullshit, and his glares).
I hope the series continues, because it is better than this. But only if Jinx goes back to the take-no-shit unflappable person I loved in the Glimmer arc.
Last note: stop giving her more powers. It's becoming silly now. She could probably take down the entire Connection all by herself given that she has like 10 abilities while everyone else just has one. It's getting a bit too Mary Sue for me, and I like a little Mary Sue (I like OP FMCs, sue me).

If you thought the previous books in this series was exciting, you'd be right but let me tell you something, THIS book exceeded ALL my expectations and then some! Right off the bat I'm knee deep in the magnificence of the story, I can feel the love that Jess and Emory have, they have such a special relationship which leaps up off the pages. That opening sentence hooked me immediately! Beautiful Emory, sensitive but dangerous Emory is more than sigh worthy. The scenes between Jess and Lucy perfectly portray the exuberance, the love, the friendship and bond they share, it is so infectious. But don't be fooled, when the action begins in earnest it escalates in it's magnificence, sinking me further and further into this utterly fabulous world.
I had a smile on my face the entire time I was reading this book, an impending wedding always evokes feelings of peace and happiness, although.... I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop but goodness me was I NOT expecting that! The first few chapters were so beautifully lighthearted, one definitely gets into the excitement of a wedding about to take place. And then the shizer hit the fan! Yeah, yeah, yeah, we're all familiar with Heather lulling us into a false sense of security, so when it DOES hit, oh boy does it hit hard! And splatters everyone in it's proverbial path. And twists? You want twists? They can't get any better, my jaw dropped in disbelief, at one particular scene and no, I'm not going to tell you... just know this, I'm not sure who was more astonished, me or Jinx!
Ugghh! This Anti Crea movement is truly vile, they up the ante significantly, and the worst is not knowing who is a part of them. So what does one do when a group is out to get rid of all which are termed creatures? Why, annihilate them when all else fails! Or at least Jess and company try, except, of course, when do things EVER go as planned? Really tense awesome scenes ensure! Like, whoa, Elizabeth and Jess? Their predicament? Beyond tense! All the characters, ALL OF THEM, have a permanent place ensconced in my heart.
There's a quote that really stood out to me, how delightful is this? " They say vengeance is a dish best served cold, but clearly they haven't met my fiery dragon " I love how "normal" Jess is in this book, she's vulnerable and afraid, not something that she's used to. But things, as they inevitably do, go from bad to worse, way way worse! I'm reeling from certain events, my brain feels like it's filled with cotton candy, all hazy and fluffy and no.... I can't tell you that either! But my word did this book do a number on me! It burrowed into every pore, it consumed every cell, it became a part of me, until I was unable to distinguishable who I was anymore, in the best possible way, heck, I didn't WANT to be me anymore!
Jess is cocky, self assured, I love all her powers, new ones, old ones, it elevates my excitement when she uses them and best of all? Welllll, she's....she's....nah, again I can't say! For you to get all my innuendos, there's really only one thing for that, READ THIS BOOK! This rollercoaster of a ride had me smiling as I clutched the safety bars, ready for the ride of my life, had me screeching in fear and anger and when it came to a smooth halt, I once again had a smile firmly plastered on my face! Now THAT was some ride!
*sigh*. It’s hard to believe I started this entire series just a little over a week ago. Now, I’ve read almost every single book this talented author has written so far (that’s 10 books and a novella!) THAT should tell you how much I have enjoyed the experience! And the cherry on top is that this last book(so far) was arguably the best of the bunch! It has a bit of every single thing one has come to love in both the Jinx and Lucy series - great characters, lots of action, intrigue, a bit of mystery with a dollop of romance!
Readers that have come this far know there are small things that might, for one reason or another, keep the stars from perfect, and in this book it was the small idiosyncrasies that don’t quite fit - like Elizabeth’s weird turn-around (huh?), The immediate forgiveness of Evan without any consequences whatsoever (made NO sense!) etc. BUT, the sheer awesomeness of the reading experience overall makes one quickly forget and just relish the ride!
Oh, I hope there are more Jinx and Emory books to come!
A pretty fun and exciting way to wrap up this next phase in Jinx and Emory's series! There were much higher stakes here this time with all the Anti-Crea stuff and I found that was well developed throughout. Some of the action scenes were still a bit rushed, but I very much enjoyed how this concluded.
Well. This made a liar of me in my last review. THIS one is the best of the series. I have a heavy TBR this month and I didn't think I would get to this until the beginning of next month, but out of curiosity I dipped into the first couple of chapters. When I looked up, I'd lost about three hours, read two thirds of the book and my cats were yelling at me because it was way past their dinner time. (And mine to be honest but cats care less about that.)
This book was action packed from beginning to end. A lot happens and the plot twists and turns, gripping you in its coils. I don't want to give away too much of what happens but Jinx is having a bad week. Emory is lost after being forced out of prime-ship; there's a malevolent demon on the loose; the Anti-Crea movement is gaining in traction with increasingly violent acts; oh, and a wedding needs to happen. That's a full plate before everything goes wrong, which it does in a spectacular way. In many ways, this is darker than the previous books. The villains get more room to act on their various and disturbing perfidies. Everyone is put through the wringer but no one more than Jinx. I was genuinely anxious for her at several points.
Something this book does especially well is use its varied and wonderful collection of side characters, without destroying their individuality or personal goals. There was plenty from many of my favourites (Amber, Shirdal, Reynard and Gato if you're curious) and a very enjoyable cameo from Lucy (who also has a very full plate).
If you haven't discovered this series yet, you should absolutely pick up Glimmer of the Other and binge read the lot. One of my most enjoyable reads this year.
I'm still trying to process the book. It was really something. I debated between 4 and 5 starts for a while because, even if it was really good, it felt like something was missing since everything happened so fast.
In the previous book, everything Emory worked for was taken from him. In this book, things get some very expected twists. We all got what we expected by the end, but it felt too fast.
Everything Jinx has to go through during the book is hard. She has been growing through the books, but in this last one, she learns some hard lessons that change her a little more. What never changes is her good heart and her willingness to help others. Sometimes it bothered me how easily she forgives and forgets, but at the same time, that's part of her personality.
In the end, we get our happy ending, and they get their adventure. Now it's only a matter of learning what it's going on on Lucy's side. Can't wait for more books!
From the first paragraph, until the last my attention was riveted to the page. The action and adventure was perfectly paced to keep my eyes locked on screen.
This story made me cry, made me laugh, made me angry. I had a bunch of feelings, and every chapter brought another.
From the way Emory is willing to give Jinx the wedding she wants at the drop of a hat (or pushup), to the way he razed the fort for her - his love shone off the page. Our Jinx was put through so much, and had to make a heart hurting choice to return to him. Then there was the twist of chapter 12...
The way I cried, laughed, sobbed, cheered, and satisfied. Perfect.
Every moment was packed with action, feeling, and excitement. I wish I could experience the joy of reading it for the first time - again and again.
Excellent book!! This has the best opening chapters I've read in a really long time! The twists and turns in this book kept me alternating from on the edge and not breathing to giant sighs of relief! Really enjoyed watching all of our main characters personalities develop and grow, now I'm anxiously waiting for Lucy's story to continue too!! Such a great conclusion to this part of Jinx and Emory's story - I'm not saying final because I'd love to see more of their life together! Very well done and well played Ms Harris, well played!! Lol!
I’ve loved Jinx’s story all the way through - the innovative world building, the people, the plot, and the banter. The previous book was left on a bit of a low note; safe to say that this one had a very satisfying finish.
And without mentioning spoilers, there were quite a few swerve balls thrown in and nothing that was heavily foreshadowed - so I never picked up on them until they happened.
I feel like there could be series that could work for some of the side characters. Can’t wait to see what Heather writes next.
Jinx and Emory Wedding!! Well... maybe. Do you think anything will go like it's supposed to? Absolutely not! Absolute chaos happens in this book, and I loved every minute of it! Read this series!!
I am once again here to beg Heather G. Harris to give me more Jinx❗
This series has been a comfort read for me since the very first book. Jinx's relatable humor and sharp wit always bring a smile to my face. Every book leaves me wanting more.
While I wasn't quite as captivated as with previous installment, I was still happy to share another adventure with our main character and her friends.
It was very fast paced and considerably darker than the previous books, which I think may have overshadowed the unique charm that I love so much. Hence, my rating of four stars ⭐.
Nonetheless, I really enjoyed spending more time with the characters, both old and new, and hope there's many more stories to come. There's so many spin-offs that I would read.
Overall Rating ★★★★★ Plot ★★★★★ Humor ★★★★ Characters & Character Development ★★★★ Narration ★★★★★
The beginning of this book broke my heart. I wanted everything at the beginning of this book to be perfect for Jinx and Emory. Sadly, more chaos happened. I still thoroughly enjoyed all the adventures. They had some tough times. I’m glad they figured out some of the people who could be trusted by the end and the reasons some people made the choices they made. The end was heartwarming. I really hope for more adventures with Jinx and Emory.
Not really, but, the little story in the author's note made me a bit cross - 'whilst' is British English, not old fashioned. Aren't we supposed to be able to experience other worlds (pun unintended) when reading a book? Not attempt to force every book into an exact replica of every other (Americanised) world? Anyway, Revival of the Court is another fantastic book in the Other Realm. It has some extremely grim moments, but Jinx and her people also manage to find some joy. I really, really want to keep reading this world, if Heather still has stories to write within it. And I think that maybe Glimmer will have left some more surprises for Jinx to discover...
This book brings Jinx and Emory’s court story arc to a close, as they deal with the Anti-Crea and a few other things. It picks up two weeks after the end of the last book, where everything is still in the limbo in which it was left - but rest assured it doesn’t stay there!
I enjoyed this, despite the copious tears, because so many loose ends were tied up. That being said, I’d definitely like to hear more from Jinx and Emory, know a little more about what happened with the enigmatic Stone, and see what else Glimmer might have in store for Jinx! I’m looking forward to reading Amber’s books and seeing more in the Other Realm universe. An enthralling series, this is a great choice for Urban Fantasy fans.
This book is almost non-stop action! It finally closes this story arc trilogy but I really, truly hope there will be more to come. I adore this Other Realm series and these characters. But Jinx and Emory are my favorites so I hope we will get another trilogy for them. There are some unresolved questions that can surely be addressed!
There are lots of actions scenes in this book. More battles, more magic, more secrets, more betrayals, just lots of “more.” I really enjoyed it and while I’m excited to move on to Amber’s story arc I REALLY want more of Mr. & Mrs. Elite!
This book takes on a wild ride with Jinx and her friends as they tie up loose ends from both the earlier stories in the Court series as well as the Glimmer series.
Their are exciting plot twists as well. It takes you through the whole range of emotions. We meet old and new friends and enemies and at times you wonder which is which. The bad guys are really bad in this one and Jinx is still a strong hero along with Emory.
Every time I read a book by this author, I’m blown away at how great she writes. In this latest, poor Jinx is trying to get married, but the anti-crea movement is out to get her. She’s thrown for a loop because there are several things that happen in this book that were so unexpected, I also was thrown for a loop! LOL! I can’t believe how much this book made me feel; I laughed out loud, I made many sounds of distress, and I cried tears of both sadness and joy. I love that this author can make me feel so much with the written word. Great addition to the series! Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
Another brilliant read from the great Heather Harris!
Wow, this is a fabulous ending to this series (I really hope it's not the ending, but it felt like it might be). Jinx and Emory really go through it in his action packed finale. From their wedding being interrupted, Jinx being arrested, and many, many other things that tie up all the plot points!
Wow, I was exhausted by the end, mainly because I couldn't put it down! I was fighting and doing all the things Jinx was. I swear! I won't give anything away, but boy does the author hit you with so much and all the feels.
I just can't praise this series enough. It is everything you want to see in an urban fantasy. A strong female lead, a touch of romance, cute pets (that double as protectors), friends, found family, quirky characters galore, magic, mystery, and fun.
If you haven't read this series, do yourself a favor. Get a big bag of snacks, a six pack of your favorite beverage, and spend a weekend reading from beginning to end. You'll thank me.
I was so anxious for the remaining book in Jinx’s story that I devoured it in one afternoon. I’ve adored my journey with Jessica Sharp through these seven books (which I read in six days.) I am so glad I discovered Harris’ Other Realm and look forward to rereading everything soon, in addition to her other Other series!!
I hate to put a negative review on a book that I read as an ARC, but this book was just so bad compared to previous work by Heather Harris. She clearly rushed this entire trilogy, and it would have benefited greatly from spending more time in developmental edits. This particular book (as with the second one in the trilogy) had many moments that literally made no sense. Heather fell into the trap of doing things solely to move her plot along.
For example, Jinx is kidnapped and "tortured" for about a page or two simply to motivate her actions in the future. The torture isn't believable, nor is her outrage.
Another odd moment is when the Eye of Ebrell, which was supposed to be so important for the selection of Prime in book two, was sort of used to open a demon portal, and then that was it. No explanation was ever given as to why it was needed to select the Prime, or why it had flashed red when rejecting Emory. Nor, for that matter, does it apparently matter since he's named Prime again regardless of what the Eye previously indicated.
For an even more obnoxious example, huge spoiler here, Jinx decides to STAB HERSELF IN THE HEART believing that 1) a prophecy she's never heard of before a few minutes ago must apply to her, and even more crazily, 2) that stabbing herself in the heart will magically result in her resurrection. No explanation is given for why she thinks she will magically be reborn after killing herself. No explanation is given for why her stab wound is healed but burns on her arms are not. No explanation is given for why when she stabs herself she is magically saved, but later in the book she uses the exact same method to kill someone else (stabbing him in the heart with Glimmer).
I loved the Protection of the Pack series -- so much so that it was one of the rare books I've purchased in my adult life (I read most books through my library). But after this awful trilogy I don't know that I will be able to give Heather another try. If she wants to win readers back, she has to actually take time to write the books rather than just churning them out without the thought that made her earlier work so fantastic.

Adventure, Excitement... A Jedi may not crave these things but I sure as sugar do! And boy does Heather G. Harris deliver! There is a bit of everything and I loved every second of it! Gonna binge Lucy's story now cuz inquiring minds need to know!!
I am usually not one to review something, but I absolutely loved this whole series/world. There are twists, intrigue, cool magic, and some great world building. This has become one of my favorite series. I have read A LOT of books, only a few percentage make it onto my re-read list as these have. This book had me screaming, crying, and chuckling. I would absolutely LOVE to see more of Emory and Jinx, I feel there is easily so much more to their story.
That was much better. I would say this is more like a 3.5 star read but still have my critical brain telling me not to round up because of a few things. I really like this author and this world, I would appreciate a few things being thought about a little more, especially when playing with time travel.
1) Jess was ALONE in the city at the start of the book to follow the tradition of the bride and groom are not to see each other. How is she left alone, though? No Shirdal, no Reynard, no brethren or other dark seraph? Do you really want me to believe none of our normal cast of bodyguards, let alone Emory, is okay with this? Then it’s compounded by Lucy showing up ALONE as well. No Manners, no wolves, no Bastion. Both of these characters had JUST been through some shit in their last books yet they are alone without bodyguards, walking around in Liverpool at night whilst drinking? This is not believable. I don’t care if Emory is no longer Prime, he is still Elite and has loyal people who still follow his orders, not to mention those loyal to JESS as their Prima.
2) When Jess is taken the second time in the book 🙄 she has Glimmer on her person and has used the IR to make it invisible prior to being taken. The room where Jess and Elizabeth are held is supposedly runed to the hilt. To the point where Elizabeth cannot shift, Jess cannot summon any sort of magic yet Glimmer remained invisible? I get her intention was to make it stay invisible until she changed it back, and this series is crafty in using word play to get around linear train of thought, but I still cannot grasp or accept why being in that room did not nullify the IR of making Glimmer invisible. Was it because Glimmer is sentient and can appear to her whenever she needs it, but the runes don’t impact Glimmer?
3) The use of time travel again to resolve a more complicated plot point. I get it, it’s part of this world, but it seems to be a crutch. It seems like quite a few people Jess has met have that mark on their forehead that indicates they’ve traveled to the third realm, why don’t we see more of other people using it? It’s a lot to suspend one’s disbelief repeatedly. Especially when it seems too convenient to use instead of having our character devise a plan and work with others to successfully achieve a goal. She just takes a little trip to the third and does it herself. Blah.
4) I don’t really feel like enough time was spent on progressing our story in a cohesive and logical way. We just seemed to be at different points along the way and not a lot of smooth transition to each one. I don’t really know how to explain it. The closest I can come is to think of a dollhouse. A child takes dolls to a room and plays with them in a room, then picks them up and places them in another room and starts playing with them there without a lot of transition from one room to another. Wedding. Kidnap cottage. Escape. Home. It really seems like that to me. I don’t know how you transition from each, but I’ve seen this author do it successfully before.
5) Why didn’t Jess call Lucy when they found the werewolves dead after the daemons escaped? Why not call her for backup? While thinking about this part of the book, wtf happened to the other daemons? There simply wasn’t enough time spent interacting with these bad guys to even understand how the entire scenario played out.
What I did like was the continued reverence with which the author handles death and grief. I also feel like we finally got Emory back to who we came to know and love, but we didn’t get enough of him. I will also reiterate how unbelievable I find it that Jess continues to be alone without guards multiple times. Especially after the first kidnapping. Oh, sorry this was supposed to be what I did like and already covered this. I like all of the side characters and felt they were underutilized. Hmmmm, I guess this is why I didn’t round up. I love the world and characters, I just want a little more care taken in delivery.

If you haven't read the previous books in this series, STOP! Go back and read them. This book will wrap up everything that has happened so far.
At the end of the last book, the council decided that since Emory had broken dragon law, he is unfit to be Prime and voted him out validated by the Eye of Ebrel glowing red.
While Emory is struggling with the ruling, he also knows he deserves his fate. Jessica decides that they shouldn't wait any longer to get married, they should just do it. So, they decide it will be a wedding the next day after Jinx finishes her current case.
Not wanting to buck tradition, she tells Emory she will stay at the Hotel Adelphi, so Emory won't see her before the wedding. After finishing her case, she goes to get a room and finds Emory has already booked a suite and the witches runed it for protection. He would send a car for her at 2PM to escort her to the ceremony at a secret location. The suite is room 13 but she refuses to think it's bad luck, after all she's marrying Emory tomorrow. She's settling in with a book and a sandwich when her phone rings. It seems Lucy wouldn't miss this occasion and has plans for them. As she's pulling things out of her bag, a shoe hits and breaks a small mirror. Shrugging off the superstition, the best friends head out for a night on the town. A small incident with an Anti-Crea Vampyr has them cutting the night short.
The next day is perfect, Lucy's dress, her gift to Jess a pearl crown is perfect with her hair styled by a siren, Jess's gown gorgeous, Audrey, her future mother-in-law there to help, and Gato with her dad inside him in the car for the journey to the venue. Lucy helps her father to speak to her and well, tears will fall. Everything is perfect she rides the last bit to Emory on Gato's war sized body, the seer who is to officiate gives the first hint this is not to be today.
Then Elvira arrests Jessica for impersonating a Connection Inspector while rescuing the kidnapped of Hester. Something totally not true since Stone had deputized her, much to her dismay. It had to be in Stone's report, he was a stickler for details, but now it's not there. Emory promises a lawyer will be waiting, but she's not taken where Elvira and everyone else expects her to be.
Randall junior now an inspector and his friend and cohort Holt are the ones who drove her to the prison, they are also the ones who would begin her interrogation with pain. Fortunately, a call from Randall's father stops it all and she's brought back to her cell with her hands still cuffed in front of her.
As soon as she reached the safety of the forest she summoned Nate who immediately steps out of the shadows to her. Then he phases her home, a call to Shirdal to stop the attack on the hotel so they continue to think she escaped, also has her speaking with Reynard, to get them to back off, thus keeping Elvira safe. She calls Emory lets him know she's safe at home, but he can't talk, although she does feel his relief through their bond.
Now they need a plan to get take it all down. There's a lot of surprises in this one. Allies I didn't expect, another dang Prophecy, a traitor, daemons and so much more as every loose end is tied up.
I couldn't put this book down until I turned the last page. Now on to the next series, the Other Wolf.
Book 7 opens with the Wedding of the Century, you are cordially invited to the wedding of Jinx and Emory! It is all set to happen, Jinx and Emory are exchanging vows, everything is beautiful. And then the Connection arrive, dozens of agents come to arrest Jinx on trumped up charges that she was acting as a fake agent of the Connection when she worked with Stone originally. With Stone dead, and his reports doctored to state that Jinx was not deputised, she is arrested, but rather than being taken back to the Connection to be processed, she is instead whisked away to an Anti-Crea black site. This has been their ploy all along, to separate Emory and Her, so that they can finally get Jinx and torture her. (I should note that anyone who has triggers for torture, suggested sexual assault – should read with care). Jinx finds herself trapped, isolated, and at the hands of mad-men, hellbent on making the last hours of her life a living nightmare. I don’t want to give away spoilers, you will have to read it to find out if Jinx escapes. In the meantime, Emory and the rest of the group are not only desperately trying to find Jinx (Hell hath no fury like a Enraged Dragon Scorned), but there is a Daemon on Earth, causing utter havoc – targeting creatures, and it is only Emory and the gang that can stop it, before it unleashes a terrible toll using the Anti-Crea movement as its tool. This is quite a dark chapter in the Other Realm series, a lot more adult than the other books in the series, as Jinx is taken to some really dark and nasty places. With Emory having being removed as the Prime Elite in the previous book, he is already feeling removed from power, and the impact of what happens to Jinx brings him undone. It is a fascinating start to this book as we almost see our two most powerful characters taken out of play and some incredibly powerful players on the other side moving around and taking control, or making dangerous moves. Everything that Emory, Jinx, and even others such as Lucy, and other creatures have begun to build begins to crumble as the Daemon starts to unleash its final plan. This is Harris at her best, as we see Jinx alone, desperate, and frightened. But this is a dangerous thing, for Jinx does not curl into the corner, she comes out fighting. We get to see a side of Jinx we haven’t seen before though, one in which she is not playing from a hand of strength. We also get to see her allies without her and Emory, having to use their skills, to come together and rally not only to find her, but to protect Emory and all of the creatures. This is an epic final part to the series, and sees the culmination of several different storylines all coming together. It continues to be one of the best Urban Fantasy series on the market today, with brilliant characters, stunning world building, thrilling magic and combat, and a storyline that leaves you unable to put the book down. Most of all, it is just a great FUN read, something that a lot of stories have forgotten how to do, Harris has created a magical story that is so good to immerse and lose yourself in. An absolute must read for anyone who has followed the series, but this series is an absolute MUST READ for anyone who likes any sort of Fantasy/Urban Fantasy.
I really liked this book and how the series ended (or at least I think this is the end).
This book starts with Jinx deciding that she doesn’t want to wait anymore, and she wants to marry Emory as soon as possible. They prepare for the wedding, but on the day, they’re interrupted. The rest of the book is dealing with the daemon as well as the Anti-Crea, and eventually, the wedding.
In this book the court gets to make big decisions on its own, so I didn’t see the point of the Elders in the previous book.
I really liked all the action in this series as it felt like there was never a dull moment. Also, the series was really well thought out as it seemed like all the plot lines were concluded, especially given the time travel (which I don’t usually like). The only thing that bothered me a bit was how Jinx was the only fully developed character (because you were in her POV), and the rest of the characters only appeared when it benefited the story. Despite that, I still really enjoyed the characters and their interactions with Jinx (although I wished there were more).
I don’t think I’ll read Lucy’s series as I’m not too interested in her story, but I might try Amber’s series. Bastion seems interesting (although given Emory’s role in this series, I don’t think Bastion is going to be anything more than a side/background character), and I really want to see more of Amber and her personality. I really liked Sally the Salamander (even though she could have been shown more), so I’m hoping that Amber has a familiar who will be more present.
This series reminds me slightly of the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost, expect it’s more light-hearted and the romance is very much in the background. Both series are action packed and there is constantly something happening. Also, both Jinx and Cat are in unique situations and don’t completely fit in with other members of their species.
