The Devil makes a proposal – Brian avoids Hell, keeps his life, and becomes a millionaire. But in seven years, The Devil will return to collect a debt for each year he’s been alive.
Brian agrees.
Seven years later, it’s Christmas Eve again. And The Devil has come to collect.
The price? Seven lives for seven debts – all to be taken within 24 hours, or Brian faces an eternity of torture in Hell.
And as Brian begins his murder spree, one thing is clear – it’s going to be a heck of a night…
This was a very innovative take on A Christmas Carol, of sorts. Our lead, Brian, was a selfish, narcissistic loner on a road to nowhere. That is, until he made a deal with the devil to give him the life that he wanted. But, as we all know, that pesky Lucifer needs to manipulate and trick his victims, and Brian was no exception. So we follow Brian on a series of holiday-related missions to repay his debt, as he faced his own troubles in really interesting and dynamic ways. He discovered truths about himself and ultimately finds his redemption, but not in any way you’d imagine. Again, it’s very creative and I enjoyed how Rick Wood gave a plethora of details and background on all the characters, especially the victims. The ending with Brian’s niece, Lily, had me on the edge of my seat, too. It all blended nicely, found a great flow and pace early on, and kept me glued to the kindle throughout. A must read for holiday horror nuts.
Very well written, this book is impossible to stop, when you start reading it. The story is a bit predictable but still very good. And you're not supposed to like anyone, but still. the commentary from the devil were very funny. And it was a great Christmas story.
O.M.G. !!!!! I absolutely demolished this book in a few sittings. The author grips you so tight and doesn't let go till the final word, but in this case, the last sentence OMG whoosh done. Every book I have read by Rick Wood has the same effect on me.
This story follows a guy called Brian who ends up passing on Christmas eve, that's when he meets the Devil, this is also when he makes a deal with him, so he can keep his life for seven years with everything he wanted, but this comes at a cost, because the Devil comes to collect his debt. Would you be willing to take seven lives ... or the other option is to face an eternity in HELL!!! Go on, read, and find out I dare you!!!!
It still had shockingly gruesome horrific moments, but the storyline just carried me through like my own movie in my head playing.
If you haven't read this author ... OMG 😲😲, you are definitely missing out on a fantastic read. This author's books are truly addictive. I am always saddened when I have read the last word, though, but I am always excited for the next book in this series. Boo hoo 😢😢 I'll just have to be patient!!!!
Love this! Ate it right up! So here’s a story about a young guy who is basically a privileged coward who also happens to be spoiled, no good and just basically a lazy asshole. So one Christmas Eve, his mom asks him to get milk from the store which he begrudgingly goes to get and on the way back he foolishly gets into a freak accident and dies! So now that he’s dead he finds himself face to face with Satan himself who offers him fame and fortune for 7 years, but once that 7 is up, he must take 7 lives in order to not burn in the fiery depths of hell!!
So first off I thought, this was gonna be super cheesy, probably some gory, storyless massacre but it was not! And I had faith in that because I’ve been reading some stuff from this author and it’s all been REALLY GOOD. I really enjoy Rick’s writing style, it flows so nicely and gets you hooked. All in all this book didn’t disappoint and it also takes place during Christmas which made it even more festive. Give this one a go!
As always this author gives you a book that makes you THINK. I always enjoy his books because there are so many layers to his writing. Brian believed he owed a debt to the devil but had a hard time following through with each suggestion the devil gave him. As a person who only viewed the world as; what the world owed him; he was having a hard time completing each task he was given. Finally, when given a task he cannot complete, we see the man Brian could have been. Is it too late for Brian to be redeemed? This is the devil we are dealing with, is it not?
I've been reading through this series and I have really liked most of them. This book feels like it's extremely personal option wise for the author. I felt like the MC was sitting on the set of The View chittering with the girls. I couldn't help but to picture him wearing Adam Schiff's head for some reason. Regardless I'm trudging forward to finish the series, and possibly more. Can't help myself.
Really enjoyed reading this. It really makes you weigh up humanity and your own sense of self! Story telling at its best! Can't wait to read more from Mr Wood!
