Chiabella is a master. This book reminded me what making great movies can be and stirred me to go and make one of my own. 10/10 recommend for use on coffee tables and remembering life goals.
“Dune Part One: The Photography” Chiabella James Stunning book of exquisite images. These are more than just photos, they are portals into dual universes – yes the movie itself and its compelling narrative, but also to the orbit of the creative world that brought the film to life. Fantastic book. ***** “Photographs give us the opportunity to pore over the details, keeping a record for posterity but also giving us a window to explore these worlds and dive into new cultures.” (p11) “.. a collaboration between direction and design ..” (p140)
This book a collection of stunning on set picture from the first Dune movie as captured by Chiabella James with brief, but interesting, forewords from producer Tanya Lapointe and actress Rebecca Ferguson. Whilst the images offer insight in to deleted scenes and great, candid shots of the cast and crew it would’ve been a better book overall with more insight and narration from James but the book essentially ‘does what it says on the tin’. I hope Dune part 2 has something similar.
The artistry and dedication of the author/photographer is amazing. From the obvious hard work of cast and crew to the intimate photos of folks relaxing in their own way to the natural, unspoiled locations that transported us to alien worlds - no photo wasted an opportunity to be picture perfect.
