Diana: haar eigen verhaal

Rate this book
Toen Diana.

After watching the Crown I was interested in the history behind it. It was very interesting to listen to. And it made me really angry about how she was treated by Charles. But also when listening to what Diana her story was I could not help but think both: what a terrible life she had with a husband that did not really love her and was only busy with Camilla. But also that Diana in her reflections was sometimes more being only a victim than being more in control of her life. Some of this is due to her young age and the fact how she was introduced in the royal family and her psychological problems but otherwise she also sounds a bit entitled in several subjects. But it is very clear that she wasn’t getting treated in a way everybody should be treated. With respect, right to privacy and love and being able to be yourself with everything that entails. But the part she had and still has in her efforts to make the world a better place is very good. It is a pity that in a point in her life she was getting happy again and had so much to look forward to in her future, she lost everything in a terrible accident and probably could have survived it, if she wore her seatbelt. Also it was apparent that the royal family seemed to be more interested in old traditions than in what really is important in the life of their family and subjects. But of course there are always 2 sides to a story and the side of the Royal family will probably have other insights that are also valid. In the end it is just life. You cannot choose your family and in every family and in relationships there are going to be struggles, fights, incompatible opinions and lifestyles, etc. With friends and other people you can just say goodbye but with family it is a lot harder. An important lesson is that the media and paparazzi are really getting out of control and are part of the reason her life was hard and her end came too soon. These days we have more rights on privacy but still what you see in the media is always very life altering and usually not the real truth or a distortion of the truth. And it is a blessing to be just an ordinary person with an ordinary life, being able to go out, enjoy the world and not give a f*ck about what you are wearing and what people may think about it. Because who cares. It is something that makes me appreciate my life more.
