My second book by this author, and he does not disappoint with this wonderful tale of an epic journey made by 13 year old Tomek and his friend, Hannah, in search of the water of the river Qjar. The river flows backwards from the sea to its source in high mountains, and the magical waters can grant immortality.
The journey takes them through "The Forest of Oblivion/Forgetting", then across a prairie to the village of Perfumers and to the Inexistent Island and more. There is a wonderful imagination inspiring this tale which is ultimately a story of courage, adventure, friendship and love. It is written for children, and is a book I would have loved to read when I was a child. It is also enjoyable for anyone who can still enjoy children's tales.
This version is in French. I am not sure if it is available as an English translation.
