Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist

Rate this book
The New York Times bestselling he-said/she-said rock n’ roll romance that inspired the motion picture starring Michael Cera (Juno, Arrested Development) and Kat Dennings (Thor, TV’s 2 Broke Girls)!

"I know this is going to sound strange, but would you mind being my girlfriend for the next five minutes?"

Nick frequents New York's indie rock scene nursing a broken heart. Norah is questioning all of her assumptions about the world. They have nothing in common except for their taste in music, until a chance encounter leads to an all-night quest to find a legendary band's secret show and ends up becoming a first date that could change both their lives.

Co-written by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan, co-author of WILL GRAYSON, WILL GRAYSON with John Green (THE FAULT IN OUR STARS), NICK & NORAH’S INFINITE PLAYLIST is a sexy, funny roller coaster of a story that reminds you how you can never be sure where the night will take you…

Did anyone actually have a conversation in this book? Are these even real teenagers?

I read this book over and over and over in high school and college. My entire world then revolved around getting to concerts, experiencing live music, and of course, Nick and Norah were in the right age bracket for me to fully relate. When I saw this on the audiobook list in Libby, I knew I was due for a reread.

I love all of the unique song lyrics, the witty writing and banter, the thoughtfulness in describing things that are important and meaningful to the characters. The musical knowledge is incredible (especially through the eyes of a couple of 18 year olds!). And knowing the songs they know and love and joke about makes it even easier to relate to them!

With this reread, I found myself waiting for and longing for certain lines that hit me hard in my younger years. Though they hit a little differently know that I’m older, they were still wonderful to experience again. Those emotions, the longing, the desire to be part of something bigger all still rings true, no matter how old you get or how many times you reread a story that’s meaningful to you.

I will also note that I do not remember the book being so Randy! I think maybe I’m remembering the film adaptation that’s a lot more tame. There were some little spicy moments in this book! Again, young adult (18yo) levels of spice, but still more than some closed-door romances I’ve read recently.

I wish I could listen to all the playlists Nick and Norah make for each other. 🥰🫶🏼

Because I loved the movie, I wanted to read the source material.
I had the book on my shelves for well over a year and finally decided to read it.
Lord, this was a chore.
It was definitely a splice of the time it was written (dated references) and I just couldn't get into it.
Maybe I'm too old now.
Even my fav format, alternating POVs, couldn't save this for me.
I was so irritated that I decided to borrow the audiobook from the library just so I could speed up the narration time and get it over with.

Nick and Norah are simultaneously dumb and cute and I've had my fill of them.

This was the perfect 2000s rom com, it’s short and sweet and unfortunately I was in a reading slump and went on a month long vacation during this read but this book got me out of the reading slump. It was sweet and nostalgic and romanticizing. It gave life to the ideal, punk-rock teenage experience everyone wants to live and hopes to live. 4/5⭐️⭐️

Really solid ending. They occasionally sound waaaaay too self aware for a couple of high school seniors. It reads a bit like Catcher in the Rye, if they set it in the 2000s and turned it into a romcom.

I dived in having low expectations with this one because this is just a random book I picked up from my sister's old pile but it was surprising how easy I got hooked from the storyline. I literally cannot put this book down and I had to stop myself from taking it home and finishing it in one go.

Fun banter with a lot of spicy scenes??? (Making out only) + yearning, count me in!

Meh. Nick is kinda interesting, but Norah was kinda lost. It's a good story, but when the plot is driven by what teenagers think as opposed to what they do, it's going to be a long night.
