Dylan Becker used to be one of Christina Reese's best friends. They like to do all the same things. He even loved horses as much as she did! But lately, Dylan has been spending more time playing soccer than riding his horse, Dakota. In fact, he's thinking of giving up riding entirely--only little girls like horses, he says.
Christina can't believe it. Has Dylan really outgrown his love of riding? Even worse, has he outgrown their friendship?
It looks like the cover artist used a Breyer model horse for Dakota.
Anyway, I'm glad to see that the actual writer was given a credit -- which doesn't always happen in the Thoroughbred series. I stopped reading Thoroughbred after the first 10 or so books came out. If this had come out instead, I may have kept on with the series. I stumbled over this in the library and was pleasantly surprised. Although you really shouldn't expect an off the track thoroughbred to be ready for showing a mere 90 days after leaving the track, it was good to see OTTBs doing something other than racing or being bred to death.
I was able to follow along the story easily despite the large cast of characters and complex backstories. It sure was weird seeing Ashleigh as a mom, though. This story has many features resembling the Saddle Club series which may be why I liked it so much. I think readers will find Dylan and Chris' problems easier to relate to than those Ashleigh had to put up with working at a top-level racehorse training and breeding facility.
My favorite part was when christina was friend with dylan again. The worst part was when christina and dylan were not friens. My favorite character was christina. The worst character was dylans new friend. Auryn 10 years old, 2014
