H.S. Crow

H.S. Crow (1988) emerged into this realm in the swamplands of Florida, birthed amidst a chorus of alligator grunts and the hum of mosquito squadrons. With a lineage as diverse as his interests, this Greek-Colombian-Egyptian-Iranian hybrid flourished in the petri dish of multiculturalism.

His teenage years were spent metamorphosing from an awkward caterpillar to a resplendent nerd. But, as the world descended into existential chaos, Crow was visited by a spectral entity that whispered an ethereal directive: "Elevate thyself beyond mere bacon, embrace thy destiny, and embark upon this quest, thou delightful buffoon!"

Emboldened by this ghostly pep talk (because, why not?), Crow dove headfirst into the whirlwind of creative badassery. He became a voracious student of history, physics, astronomy, theology, and mythology, all in the pursuit of refining his writing prowess.

Fueled by dreams of penning the coolest of cool-ass tales, Crow's imagination took flight. He soon found himself crafting stories that melded the fantastical realms of fantasy, science fiction, and horror with the gritty realism of our own world. Crow's best-selling playwright, 'Lunora and the Monster King,' published in 2017, was the first fruit of this labor. He later contributed to Glacias as an editor and birthed the comic fantasy epic, Lunora.

When not transfixed by the hypnotic sway of trees, Crow dabbles in a smorgasbord of creative endeavors. He composes videos, concocts websites, produces tunes, geeks out at comic shops, weaves spells in Magic: The Gathering, and fancies himself a game programmer. All this creative chaos converges in his ambitious project, Otherworlds Inc., a Creative Studio co-founded with his best friend and muse, Sierra Ashevaili Rottman.

And so, H.S. Crow continues to wield his wit, weaving wondrous worlds and enchanting readers with every turn of the page.

I know this is technically only a sample of a webcomic, but I couldn't even follow this small amount. It was so confusing. I don't actually know what's happening, or where anyone is, or what they're even doing. There's a war. Or there was a war and now there's a new war and... That's all I understood. I will not be continuing this comic. The artist great, the characters are good, the world building is interesting, but I have no clue what is happening.

I got a arc via a Amazon promotion. However, I was waiting for this 😭

A true masterpiece, Lunora enthralls both my mind and my heart. Not only does it boast stunning artwork, but its narrative is a tapestry of compelling depth. With every turn of the page, new layers are unveiled, inviting readers to peel back the intricate complexities woven within. It is with great anticipation that I eagerly await the next issue, yearning to delve further into the captivating world of Lunora.

**SPOILER**

My spoiler review unveils a captivating scene set within a desert hut, where our protagonist finds himself caring for two young girls. Engulfed in the desert's isolation, he grapples with his own sanity, as fragments of memories from various timelines invade his thoughts. This unique take on the time travel genre astutely weaves its narrative, leaving no condescension for its readers. Instead, it rewards those who delve deeper into its intricate layers.

The protagonist battles his personal demons, entwined with the enigmatic Lunora and the horned girl, referred to as Summer, a Umbra Fairy or Sprite, drawing parallels to the species introduced in the old webtoon. An important aspect to consider is the immense commitment invested in this tale. The author, as I recently discovered, dedicated nearly 12 years to its creation, with its genesis unfolding during his recovery from a near-fatal accident. Remarkably, he penned the story while confined to a hospital bed. This knowledge adds significant depth and impact to the narrative, heightening my respect for this comic series, which has now made a triumphant return.

One must take note of the intricate exploration of different timelines, each delving into various stages of our protagonist's life. Although our community has speculated that these timelines may be concurrently unfolding, it remains unconfirmed. However, diligent readers who delved into the series during its free release amidst the pandemic have further unraveled these mysteries. The author and artists behind this work have adeptly adapted and enhanced the story, while attentively listening to the community's feedback, all while staying true to the intended narrative. It is an achievement that merits a resounding 10/10 rating.

3.5/5

What are dreams? Reminders of our imperfections, wishes, and sins? Or perhaps they are simply memories long forgotten.

Lunora: A Book of Sand is a beautiful full color graphic novel following Iko Sunstone in his journey to reunite with his beloved Lunora across time and the land of Hyperia.

This first issue sets up the plot and two main characters for what's to come. Although I found the flow of the narrative to be a little jarring I don't think it was unwarranted. What really intrigued me and made me interested in the next issue is the amount of world-building and thought put into the characters and world as seen at the end in the Glossary and Character Bios sections.

If you like either of the following series then Lunora might be your next good read!
To Your Eternity, Tome 1
The Seven Deadly Sins, Vol. 1

Very interesting

It was an interesting start, the story itself drew me in even though I was very confused as to why Lunora was so important at first, especially since she's not the main focus. I do love the idea of Iko being the main character and this being his story, you don't get a lot of stories about the side character, or the character who is closest to the main protagtonist. Though this was very short, I'd like to read more and I hope the next volumes are larger with more content.

This needs more attention. I just finished the first issue of this series, and it deserves 5 stars, no doubt. The main character's turmoil and struggle hit me hard. It's like those old anime shows where they don't give you all the answers right away, but you can feel the depth and pain of the characters. If you're into complex stories, I totally like this as a first installment to a series.

This graphic novel is a full colored graphic that I enjoyed reading. The story revolves around the main character Iko. The story is interesting, and I enjoyed the path he will undergo along with the other that accompany him on his journey to be reunited with his beloved lunora. A must read for any and all graphic novel lovers everywhere.

It was good. I'm sure the series will be amazing and intriguing, but I feel like this issue just sets up too many questions without many answers. It leaves me feeling empty, and not in a "I need to read more" kind of way. Just want for me. The art, though, was amazing!

I'm thankful to Goodreads, the author, and publisher for the free copy of this ebook. I did feel like I was missing something in the story. I think I need to read earlier graphic novels in the series. I loved the artistic aspect of this novel. Gorgeous drawings. Well done:-)
