After the last book (which I hated), I almost gave up on Cerberus, but because I'm 18 books in, I decided to give it a go.
I LOVED it! Yes, there wasn't as much action or spice as usual, but I appreciated actually getting to know this couple and them having genuine chemistry, unlike the last mess.
April grew up in a cult, but was allowed to go to school because her birth was on record.. The cult leader didn't want attention from the law her not attending. A high school boy took advantage of her, and she ended up pregnant. She was rescued by Apollo and a few other guys. She remembered Apollo and he was the only man she ever felt safe with, so she ended up on the Cerberus doorstep with a request.
They get married with him vowing to raise the baby and be there for April, which made sense considering his history with Izzy. The relationship grew and it was beautiful to see.
I really don't like all the hate April is getting in other reviews. While she didn't want to be in the cult or marry the leader, I felt like her thought processes still made sense. She still heard their preaching her entire life and it's hard to let go of those things that have been indoctrinated into you.
The only thing that was ridiculous was the attorney not just telling April that Cory's parents didn't have a shot at getting custody of the baby. Why would they? Their kid knocked up April and bailed. She's married to a man connected to the government (Some of them played secret service). Grandparents have a hard time forcing visitation, let alone getting custody when the mother is completely clean and has a good head on her shoulders. So that was a bit silly. While I don't have a problem feigning reality with some things, I hate when it's general law that the entire US population is aware of. Any attorney would have told April not to worry when she has no criminal history, no history of drug use and is married to an ex marine that rescues abused and trafficked women.
Apollo was an absolute dream!!! He was patient, kind, and gentle. April was young, but I still found their connection and love to be genuine. 5 Stars all the way.
