Whitey Ford weighs in on Yankee history with his (admittedly) dated opinions circa the year 2000. It's fascinating to get a perspective on a legendary franchise from one of that franchise's heroes. Ford moves through every position in baseball from catcher to all the fielding positions to left handed/right handed/relief pitchers and ranks his top five all-time Yankees. The boomer contingent in baseball might be well to notice that one of their guys from the Golden Age of Baseball includes guys like Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera number one at their position and guys like Jorge Posada and Bernie Williams in the top five. There is no suggestion of "we were better than guys today" at all. Dispute with him all you want, Ford gives a very balanced view of decades of Yankee greatness.
