The Legendary Overlord: A Slice of Life Harem Adventure Book 1

Rate this book
Amon's behavior changed when he unlocked his unique "Fury" genetics at the age of 5.

After living with his grandparents for 11 years, he learned to behave properly.

However, his grandparents faked their deaths and he had to move in with his mother, stepfather, and non-biological twin sisters, and attend a new school, presenting a new challenge for him.

If you don't like a harem and R-18 chapters this novel is not for you.

Story: nice enough
Writing/translation: atrocious
Specific rating: 2.5 stars

For those interested in this book, it seems a bit like a Japanese light novel (minus drawings) with a cultivation setting. While I do like the setting and the base premis of the story, the writing and/or translation (I can't decide which) makes it a tedious read. A couple of things stand out. The book isn't "flowing" and seems to be a series of short, chained together, interactions. Another thing that I noticed is the alternating and seemingly random word use. Examples of this are the different names of the "genes" (normal vs white) and the pollution that can happen while working on them in a certain way (pollution vs dirt vs waste). It would have been better if the author sticked to one or the other, or else explain this a little at the start. Lastly: the characters seem extremely flat and the interaction between them feels very forced. As if the conversations are an afterthought while the author wants to focus on the cultivation aspect. And yes, I do take the brusque nature of the MC into account with this.

Killing all those dogs was a bit much

This novel feels a bit off. There’s a number of cultural notes that don’t come across well; one fight involves very descriptive deaths of dogs, another gruesome fight where the monster’s primary adjective is “pregnant”, and a handful of non-sequitur pages that revolve around rape seemingly without shaping or moving the plot (in a story that’s otherwise written for young adults).

Having said that, the sample was a lot of fun to read. I wish the rest of the novel had kept that energy & plot moving though.

A lot of potential, however...

A Incredibly interesting story help back by a barely understandable use of English that feels like it was translated using a cheap and crapy knockoff of Google translate

Interesting story, terrible writing

The only reason this got 2 stars instead of 1 was because the story was somewhat interesting. The way it was written made me want to stop so many times. I doubt I will get the next one.

Fun, entertaining, and good character development.

Interesting plot, good main character who
has flaws, decent supporting characters. Expected antagonists. Not too bad. I hope the series continues.
