Blue Pullman

Rate this book
Drawing on material which has remained unavailable until just a few years ago, the author unveils several new facets of information about these famous trains. With an introduction to the initial concept, information about the trial running, and details about the first entry into service, this new book will be ideal for all those eager to learn more about these amazing machines. Also included is much significant information about the numerous attempts made to address the poor riding qualities for which Blue Pullman became renowned. The chapters include details of Blue Pullman operation on both the LMR and WR, supplemented by a carefully selected collection of colour and mono images, few if any of which have ever been seen before. The original hardback book on these trains was a runaway success, and has been unavailable for some time. This supplement builds upon the success of that volume, continuing the Blue Pullman story with exciting titbits of new information and a treasure trove of unseen photographs which will satisfy the insatiable demand for new material on these five train sets.

This was a well-researched, and gratifying read which was only compromised by the Authors' incessant deviation from the central narrative by inserting "asides" into the main body of the text, by way of parenthesis. These "asides" added nothing to the main body of the text, and served only frustrate my progress throughout the book whilst also becoming an increasing source of irritation.

This book covers almost all aspects of the Blue Pullman experiment, from inception and testing, through to withdrawal and destruction. Each section is accompanied by high quality photographs in both colour and black and white, all of which serve to convey both the radical and prestigious qualities of the Blue Pullman.

Overall, this book has increased my level of knowledge surrounding the operation of the Blue Pullman, and has also furthered my understanding about the reasons for it's creation and ultimate destruction. For these reasons, it should be considered an essential read for anyone wishing to learn more about this enigmatic machine.
