The versatile actress and singer discusses the struggles and determination that marked her early life, her success in the entertainment industry, and her relationships with other celebrities
Started great but did not keep the intensity throughout. Also, through no fault if its own, it only covers Ms. Carroll's life through the mid 80s, just as she was appearing on Dynasty. She is an interesting person and does a great job of voicing her story. The fact Gaby it was an autobiography was one of the major draws for me. I would have liked to have been able to read beyond that period. If interested in reading more about Dihann Carroll, I would suggest reading something that came out later. Although it was nice hearing the story from her perspective, I think there would me more to gained by a more recent book, whether she is involved.or not.
MANY PEOPLE MAY REMEMBER MS. DIAHANN CARROLL FROM DYNASTY, WHICH SHE REPRESENTED THE ROLE OF "DOMINQUE DEVEREAUX" JUST PERFECTLY. BUT THOSE OF US WHO ARE OLD ENOUGH TO REMEMBER MS. CARROLL AS "CLAUDINE PRICE" IN THE FLICK "CLAUDINE" & "JULIA BAKER" IN THE LONG AGO TV SERIES "JULIA" WHERE MS. CARROLL GRACED THE SMALL SCREEN AS THE FIRST BLACK ACTRESS TO STAR IN HER OWN TV SERIES, WITH MY PERSONAL FAVORITE ROLES OF DIAHANN CARROLL BEING IN "THE FIVE HEARTBEATS" AS "ELEANOR POTTER" & "EVE'S BAYOU" AS THE UNFORGETTABLE "ELZORA". MS. CARROLL LEFT AN INDELIBLE MARK ON TV & FILM DURING HER 84 YEARS ON EARTH & I'M GLAD THAT SHE SHARED HER TALENTS WITH THE WORLD!
Once I opened this book to finally read it, I was hooked. I wish I had the privilege to had known Diahann even though I am 27; because I have always believed that she was fabulous and she feels familiar like my grandma who is also a cancer (as well as me) She shared a lot of vulnerability with this book and it's beautiful to learn from the icon that she is.
