Clecanian #1

Choosing Theo

Rate this book
Being kidnapped by aliens is only the start of Jade's problems...

Thankfully, her rescuers, an alien race known as the Clecanians, are willing to protect her, but she has to stay on their planet for one year and respect the rules of their culture- including choosing a husband. Jade refuses at first but decides to play along until she can find a way back to Earth.

Theo, a scarred mercenary who prefers a life of solitude, is stunned when Jade selects him as her husband. After years of being passed over, he never imagined he would be chosen and neither did anyone else. Only one explanation makes sense…the curvy enticing female must be a spy, and Theo’s determined to break her cover using any means necessary.

As Jade and Theo are forced to spend time together, their chemistry becomes undeniable. But neither can afford to bring love into the equation, especially since Jade seems determined to go home. After all, she can't possibly stay here, right?

Victoria Aveline has always enjoyed immersing herself in a good romance. Alpha males are her weakness but, while possessive dominating heroes have always been titillating, she craved something more. So she decided to create a world in which devastatingly sexy men could be aggressive and domineering but still bow down before the matriarchy.

Victoria lives with her husband, dog, and about sixty thousand badass honey-making ladies. When not writing or fantasizing about future characters, she enjoys traveling, reading, and sipping overpriced hipster cocktails.

Did someone order a palate cleanser? Well, here you go.

This book is all tropes.

Abduction, fated mates, mars needs women, grumpy sunshine, forced proximity, cohabitation, marriage of convenience, traitorous body… list goes on.

Luckily, I enjoy all of those tropes, especially in alien romance. And after my streak of heavier horror and fantasy books lately, this was 100% what the doctor ordered. The FMC of this book was great, down to earth in all ways except the literal.

Three things that bothered me though:

1. Okay, seriously, why are these aliens human-shaped? I’m tryna get some crazy alien smut in my life but these Clecanians are basically just tall, pretty humans. That’s a shame.
All I can say is:

step up your freak game, please 😇😇😇

2. Theo sucks. He really does. He’s super insecure about his looks and makes it everyone else’s problem. I liked the FMC but did not understand at all why she was so willing to put up with all of his bullshit.

3. A core component of the worldbuilding on Clecania involves the unique gender roles. Men far outnumber women, and so there’s this weird system of marriage where women choose a man to marry for three months, so that the man can prove to her that he’s capable of taking proper care of her and her children. After the three month period, the couple can choose to stay together or the woman can choose to marry another man. The point of this system is ostensibly to maximize the number of children each woman can have.

So at first the FMC thinks this system is pretty unfair for men, who have next to no choice in who (or whether) they get to marry. They have to structure their entire lives around proving they can be worthy of a female partner. Then the FMC finds out that women structure their whole lives around not getting too attached to the men they marry or any children they have, because they move from partner to partner so quickly. Theo’s sister has two children, and she stays entirely out of their lives for fear of becoming too attached.

What I don’t understand is…why? There’s no law against staying with a partner if you get attached to them. Theo’s sister could have stayed with the first baby daddy and raised their kid together, and tried to have more kids with him. If you’re compatible enough with a man to have one kid, then it’s more likely you’ll be able to have another kid with the same guy than if you move on to other men and stay perpetually lonely and unhappy. So why not just stay? All the women act like they have to be serially monogamous and can’t let themselves fall for one partner. But they can. It’s considered totally fine in the eyes of the law.

Make it make sense!

AWESOME NEW AUTHOR ALERT!

HEADS UP AND PAY ATTENTION Y'ALL!! CHECK.THIS.BOOK.OUT!!

Victoria Aveline, I'M KEEPING MY EYES ON YOU!

I feel one of the biggest draws for me when reading Urban Fantasy or Sci-fi Alien romance is the absolute unpredictability of it. If done right, the writer can sell you absolute bullshit and make you love it. It's always so entertaining to read all the weird, freaky, impossible things that people come up with but in UF or Sci-fi you don't have to justify any of it-if you do, great-but you don't have to and that is the beauty of it, things can be just the way they are just because you said so.

At this point, I have read more than my fair share of alien romances and baring a couple exceptions they usually follow the same outline-they can be great just the same but just not original. What I'm trying to say is I have enough experience with the genre to proclaim I have never read something like this before!

A Matriarchal alien society where men out-number the women 20 to 1? Sure, of course I've read the type before. But the "selection" process? The idea of alien marriage? The intricate alien details? Oof! Mind-blown!

Yes, yes it's not something that's totally outta this world in the terms of imagination but the way it all gels together was brilliant. It was effort-less to read. No stupid misunderstandings. No angst-ridden, too-stupid-to-live heroine that thinks even on an alien world that she knows best and the hero? *just a sec-let me wipe all this drool*

*4.5 stars!

Wow...I started reading the book thinking it would be an erotic kind of story. But I got a captivating romantic story with interesting characters. It was so much more than I expected. Alas, in reality if our education system would force men or women to learn to be ideal husband and wife in such a way in school, then some of the problems in our world would have been reduced to a great extent. Anyway, I liked the author's thoughtful idea a lot. So, it was a great read for me, and I will be reading more about this planet and it's people.

However, honestly, I didn't like the cover of the book at all because it didn't go with the story. I believe a good story deserves a beautiful cover! That's the main reason why I gave it 4.5 stars.

Listen... sometimes I don't want an alien romance where a girl is kidnapped and forced to fight for her life on an alien planet before a big hot alien comes to rescue her, sometimes I just want a cute alien romcom where she gets to settle into life on a new planet with the help of some new friends and a grumpy alien who is secretly obsessed with her. This book combined all my favorite tropes and wrapped it up into an adorably steamy romance that is so bingeable that I finished it in one sitting. I am so excited to explore the rest of the series, there is so much potential for world-building and exploring clecanian societies!

⭐ I’m so hooked it’s insane! Perfect alien romance for all you Ice Planet Barbarian lovers!!!!

Summary:

Jade is abducted by aliens but escapes and is rescued by the Clecanians (who have the same ancestors as humans). Unfortunately, Jade can't go back to Earth and according to the rules of the Intergalactic Alliance, she must stay in Clecania for one year to learn how to take care of herself under these new circumstances.

And during that time, Jade must follow Clecanians' customs and marry. But marriage is different on this planet. Due to a lack of females, their race is slowly dying, so marriages are seen as trial periods and only last 3 months.

Jade ends up choosing Theo, a sexy mercenary who has been previously passed over due to his scars (which look like beautiful tattoos to Jade). Theo thinks she's a spy sent by his enemies while Jade thinks he's a grumpy, sexy asshole. But something pulls them together and after a while, their chemistry becomes undeniable. However, Jade is determined to return to Earth, so she can't possibly fall in love with an alien. . . right?

My Thoughts:

You're telling me this story is about a human woman who gets abducted and taken to a planet where there are sexy males who go to husbandry school to learn how to be the best possible partner???? Where they learn how to cook, clean, provide comfort and pleasure for their females??? Sign me up!

This is a fun story with an interesting romantic plot, fascinating world-building, and amazing sexual tension/spice! 🥵

If you like alpha males, banter, and the forced proximity trope, read this immediately!

3.5 could have been smuttier stars

The h (Jade) is stolen from her home by lizard-looking dudes and unloaded onto an alien planet where she is completely left to fend for herself. She understood she had been sold from the way the lizards acted, so she immediately decided to make a run for it, and she is able to get away from whatever creature she hears pursuing her. But Jade has no idea where to go or how to survive in a land so different from her own. She finally finds what appears to be a road and flings herself in front of what seems to be a transportation vehicle just before she faints from over-exhaustion and dehydration after being on the run for a couple of days. When she comes to, she learns that she is on a planet far from her own but with people that look startlingly similar to humans (with a few differences). She further learns that there are rules preventing her from returning to earth, and she is told she has to marry a male of her choosing and stay with him for at least 3 months as is the law on this planet where men outnumber women by a significant margin.

Faith decides her best bet is to play along for now and bide her time while looking for someone that would be willing to break the laws and return her to earth, so she enters the "marriage ritual" and views the available males. The one she finds that she is most attracted to is named Theo, and she soon learns that others find him repulsive because of his scars, which Faith thinks looks more like sexy tattoos. Faith chooses him anyway, and when Theo learns he has been selected, he believes it has to be for nefarious reasons as he is a merc that has employed similar tactics by setting honey pots for his targets to gain the information or items he needed to complete his missions. Thus, he deduces that she must be a spy, and he is instantly distrusting of her motives.

Will Theo believe Jade is genuinely attracted to him? Can they discover why Faith was sent to this planet illegally and who was behind it? And will Jade reconsider her stance on wanting to return to earth as she spends more and more time with Theo and finds herself attracted to far more than just his looks?

What I liked:
--- Likeable characters
--- Clear and palpable chemistry
--- Interesting story line with some mystery that made the book fly by
--- Steamy goodness (what we got of it) was good

What I didn't like as much:
--- Ending felt rushed - not much lead up to who was behind the abduction and why; an explanation was given, but it didn't seem to fit or maybe wasn't explained as well as it could have been to make more sense with the story; also, the villain basically came out of nowhere
--- Not enough smut for what I was hoping for - yeah there was some foreplay stuff, but other than the first time they got together, the other times were mostly skimmed over, alluded to, or discussed anecdotally - I wanted more smut in my smutty sci-fi (I would not categorize this as erotic)

Overall, a good steamy read with a solid plot, likeable characters, and some intrigue to move things along quickly.

Plot --- 3.5/5
Main Characters --- 4/5
Supporting Cast --- 3.5/5
Steam Level* --- 3/5
Violence --- nothing graphic or domestic
Language --- some
POV --- 3rd

*Note that steam level is not a rating so much as a how hot was it: 0/5 - clean; 1/5 - mild (nothing descriptive); 2/5 - 3rd base action/1 home run; 3/5 - now we're getting somewhere (a couple of full-on steamy scenes); 4/5 - yes please! (erotica territory); 5/5 - they did EVERYTHING in this one, y'all

If you want to read about aliens having to go to husbandry school when they turn seventeen this book is for you. What classes does this husbandry school entail you ask? I’m happy to answer. Cooking, childcare and massage are mandatory classes, because a husband must know how to make a good meal for his wife and children, but a class about which beverages goes with which food is opional. The choices these men have is amazing 🤩

If this still hasn’t sold you on this book yet how about this: Theo our beloved hero has a perfect score (10/10) in cooking, massage, female anatomy and sexual proficiency. Swoon. His conversation skills are rated at a three, but honestly a man that can cook, clean, knows where the clit is and doesn’t talk much? Lottery prize right there. ✨

For an alien romance this wasn’t nearly as freaky as I would have liked it to be, but entertaining nontheless.

this was actually kind of funny. if i got abducted by aliens & got stranded on a strange planet & was told i was now stuck there and could NEVER go back to earth because iT wouLD be AgaiNst tHe ALien Law, i would have a psychotic breakdown.

not our girl jade, though. girlie was VIBINGGGGG. and we love that for her. all it took was one incredibly hot alien to change her mind about going back to earth. so real bestie.

i mean i get it, especially if you have no strong attachments to earth. stay on an alien planet where women are worshipped and you get to be married to a sexy alien and you don't have to work.. or go back to earth where you have no one, the men suck, world leaders are leading us to ruin AND you have to work?

i'd take my chances with the aliens too 😭

this was entertaining, not really that big a fan of the writing, and the fmc was a little irritating, but still fun. idk how to explain it but for me this is like a mid romcom for us humans but i think aliens would eat this up

Time to review this sweetheart of a book. It's slightly ironic that I said I would review this when I wasn't being crushed by schoolwork, yet I don't think I've ever been more crushed by schoolwork. Oh well! Did I love this book because I have a crush on the fmc? Yes of course. But before I get ahead of myself, let me express my holistic opinion of this book!

As a paranormal romance, this book was pretty great. Though, it had some weird alpha-male-y stuff that I'm not crazy about. Theo (H) had this sort of 'bad boy' complex which was...very peculiar...

With a deep scowl, he said, “There are some females from around here who like to visit me every so often, it’s true. They chose to marry soft, pretty males and have pretty babies. They come to see me when they want to be fucked.”

He's literally such a drama queen, and calls her the pet names "little wife" and "pet"...*crickets*... but whatever. In terms of plot, this had one! (Yes, I was shocked).

It did take the fmc and mmc met at 25% which is a little late, I'd say. I maybe would have liked to follow their interactions sooner, but to be fair, this is a first in a series so there was lots to establish first. It was actually a really interesting plotline, and I think it's a perfect one for a series. I enjoyed the world building too. There's even acknowledgment of lgbtq+ characters, specifically sapphic ones and I was just over the moon.

“I know of many Clecanian females who choose to be in marriages in order to procreate but return home to their female partners after their marriage is complete.”

This author doesn't seem the type to write an entirely sapphic novel but I'm still holding out hope - that would be SO CUTE!

Now, can we talk about the absolute star of the show: Jade (h). I fucking love her. She's not necessarily a "strong fmc" nor one of the typical "quirky fmcs". She was written to be so human - it was wonderfully done/executed. She's just a regular woman, with solid logic, fantastic humour, and a glowing personality.

Jade looked around, scanning the room for a door, but instead found two angry eyes, one of them swollen and red, staring back at her. It was obvious from his stance and his unwavering gaze that his job was to watch her and make sure she didn't try to escape. She pointed at his eye and then gave a sarcastic pout. His scowl deepened.

LMAO. And the way her life is on the line but she's still popping jokes.

Her rage washed her fear away. "I'd like to know what the fuck is happening before you kill me! Send me to my grave well informed!"

But can I just say that she's so fine. She's the man of the house, I know it. I much preferred when Theo was this bashful little boy around her.

She bit her lip as she surveyed him. His towel was slung low over his narrow hips, and rivulets of water ran down his chiseled physique. He caught her staring and glanced down at his body, turning to see what she was looking at.
"You have an amazing body," she purred.
He looked down at himself again, and the corner of his mouth lifted in an unsure smile.

Everyone saw "aww" 🥺.

As the haze from the best goddamned orgasm she'd ever had lifted, she gazed up at him in a slow, sated smile spread over her lips.
He began to purr again. "Beautiful," he said as he stared down at her.
She felt a rush of affection come over her at his whispered compliment. "Tit for tat, Big boy."

Just give me one chance, Jade 😞💘. Sure Theo had his own cute moments...

“Alright, little wife. Let’s put you in bed.” Gently he lifted her from the couch, but she didn’t rouse. His heart clenched when she snuggled into the crook of his neck. When he reached her bed, he hesitated. He was enjoying holding her and wished he didn’t have to let go. When goosebumps spread over her bare legs, he finally tucked her under the covers. Before leaving, he brushed the back of his knuckles down her cheek and whispered, “My life before, as I knew it, ended when I met you. Have a care for my life now.”

...but let's be real, Jade/Gloria would have been superior! 😁💞💘💕

If you would’ve tried to tell me a few days ago, that I would like an alien romance… 👀 I would’ve laughed in your face. 😂 But after listening to the audiobook (fantastic male narrator btw) and devouring it on my kindle, I now need to read the rest of this series!

Don’t get me wrong, the fact that (the FMC) Jade, was abducted (in the 1st chapter) from Earth by lizard like beings, was actually terrifying. BUT I can’t lie, I was laughing through her entire experience, and I think it worked out just fine. 😉 Somehow she ended up on a stunning planet, surrounded by beautiful “human like” beings. The initial culture shock and language barrier, added to the charm of the Clecanian society.

It just so happens that women or females, are outnumbered by 20 to 1, on this planet… and she’s required by law to “marry” a male of her choosing for three months. Not only are the males incredibly attractive, they all go to HUSBANDRY school, to know how to cook, clean, massage, raise children, and please women (in every possible way), and be basically the greatest version of a male EVER. And ultimately attract a female or the best case scenario, a Mate. *Sighs*

Because of Theo’s scars 🥺, he’s looked down upon by their society… until the FMC Jade, notices him for the glorious cinnamon roll hero, he really is. I’m a sucker for a grumpy, “damaged” (aggressively rolls eyes) hero, and especially when they don’t understand how gorgeous they really are! As soon as Theo appeared, I immediately added him to my Fictional Husband roster. 🫦

Shockingly great world building, and what I would almost consider a magic system, charming characters, hilarious humor, and an interesting plot, created an overall fantastic book! I can’t recommend this enough. And I’m so curious, how this compares to IPB?!? If you’ve read both please let me know if it’s this good, because then I’ll finally understand the hype!

A few favorite tropes featured were: close proximity, animal companion, “damaged” hero, marriage of convience, protective alpha male, primal kink, Grumpy X Sunshine, fated mates, and probably a bunch of others that I’m forgetting.

Basically you need to read this, because it’s an absolute hidden gem!!!

“You could betray me a hundred times over, and I fear I’d still fall at your feet.”

i have heard nothing but great things about this series and now i can see why, i loved this book so much. Theo might be a broody alien, but one thing you could never say is that he’s a bad husband. Jade gets kidnapped and taken to an alien planet, where she learns that women are high priority. she’s told that she can’t return home, so instead she’s asked to choose a male alien to marry. i loved how Jade was just so compassionate towards Theo, he’s never been picked before and is considered “ugly” due to his scars / tattoos. she slowly starts to break down his defenses, but it was also very entertaining watching Theo attempt to throw Jade off in any way he could think of. the plot itself wasn’t anything crazy but i thought their romance was so beautiful tbh.

This was sooo much better than I expected!
Honestly I was expecting some alien smut, a lot of ridiculousness and not much plot..
What I’ve got? A wholesome slow-burning story with loveable characters in an intergalactic setting.
Usually I write a short synopsis, but I'm not even sure how to start.
The amount of things I would have to explain, to explain the beginning of the relationship between Jade and Theo.. I think you just have to read it yourself! 🥰

All I can say is, maybe an alien abduction isn’t the worst thing that can happen to you.
If they’ve got a spare Theo out there somewhere in the universe, I’m available! 🧎🏼‍♀️

⁂“What’s the matter, pet?” he crooned in her ear. “Isn’t this what you wanted?”

So much telling and no showing. The MC's don't meet until around 30% into the book because the author is so busy telling us about this world that is a lot like earth. It is basically earth ffs. Then the MMC jumps to wild conclusions for no reason, everything is dragged out into infinity, the conflict is paper thin, the characters are cardboard cutouts and the smut was really boring. I skimmed all of it after 60% and only finished because it was a buddy read. I can only recommend this to anyone suffering from insomnia.

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚🖤💙❤️💜

Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌎
Character development: 🤓☹️🙃☺️😍
Narrator: 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Solo Narration

The heroine: Jade - a landscape designer who spends most of her time in her home. Jade was kidnapped from her house by some sort of reptilian looking aliens. When they got near their destination, she was put into a pod and jettisoned from the spaceship, later landing on a planet in the forest. Luckily she stole some sort of knock out spray from the aliens and was able to spray whomever or whatever came for her.

The Hero: Theo - he is from a race of Aliens that look similar to humans called Clecanians and he is half Traxian (which is a more brutal race). He is taller than humans, with elongated canines. Theo is a mercenary who has been scarred from many battles. He had resigned himself to the fact that no female would want to marry and procreate with him.

The Story: Jade escaped her would be captor and ended up finding a city called Tremonta on the alien planet where she landed. She was taken in by the Clecanian council and told that it was illegal for them to return her to her home planet. She had to marry a Clecanian for three months in order to learn how to live in this new world, after which she can decide where she wants to live.

This is told in dual points of view via dual narration. The narration is done by Stephen Dexter who has a deep, soft voice which is very pleasant to listen to and he is terrific at donning different voices for a variety of different characters. He is also great at showing attitude and emotion through his voice and speaks at a nice cadence.

This audiobook had a long wait on my Libby (library) app, so I read the rest of the series prior to reading this first one, though it didn’t really make a difference. Each book can really be read as a stand-alone. This was a good story and Theo was such a total alpha male, while Jade was a fish out of water trying to figure out how to live in an ancient world. There was explosive chemistry between Jade and Theo and when he lost control, things got super steamy!

Should I read in order?
This is the first book in Aveline’s Clecanian series.

Basic plot:
After being abducted and escaping her captors, Jade finds security among the Clecanian race. For her protection, she must stay on the planet for at least one year and learn about their customs, including choosing a husband to live with.

Give this a try if you want:
- Sci-fi romance

- Alien hero/human heroine pairing
- Touch of language barrier
- Huge hero, tiny heroine (hero is over 6’6”)
- Bit of a sci-fi beauty and the beast feel

- Bit of an arranged marriage feel, though heroine has some choices
- Hero has never been kissed
- Males outnumber females on Clecania by 20 to 1
- Touch of enemies to lovers feel in the beginning (hero thinks heroine is a spy out to get info on him)
- Slow burn (hero and heroine don’t meet until about 30%, and it's a bit longer before anything happens between them)
- Medium steam (might feel hotter to some - I counted it as 3 full scenes plus a few short ones I didn't count)
- Jealous hero
- Fated mates but it’s not instant – it grows over the entire book
- Lots of world and culture development on the alien planet

First Line: (taken from audio)
"Two am," Jade groaned.

My thoughts:
I really liked a lot about this one – but it took forever for me to feel that way. This book had such a slow start for me. Theo and Jade don’t even really meet until like 30% into the book and it felt like forever.

I did like that time was spent on the world and customs of the Clecanians. It gave it a unique feel with the world building – but it also felt like a lot of information. Maybe the next ones in the series will be a touch lighter with this and there will be more room for the relationship development.

I have really been liking ‘hero has never been kissed’ as a scifi plot device – I love when the difference between Earth and alien planet customs includes that. First kisses can be so steamy and emotional and sometimes I love them even more than the sex. And this book had a great first kiss! And once these two really start interaction with each other I adored so much of their relationship.

I did get a bit tired of the ‘she’s a spy’ kind of thoughts the hero had. I think maybe I didn’t know enough of his background to understand why he was being like this.

BUT

I LOVED that the hero had chasing instincts and when the heroine ran, he had to chase her. The first sex scene was amazing to me because I loved how he lost control and was so domineering with her.

Overall, I’m not sure if I would reread this one. Maybe just forward to my favorite sections (wink, wink) but I will probably continue with the series at some point.

Quotes/thoughts:

With a deep scowl, he said, “There are some females around here that like to visit me so often, it’s true. They choose to marry soft, pretty males and have soft, pretty babies. They come to see me when they want to be fucked.”

“When these females visit, I bend them over the closest surface. They don’t spend much time admiring my looks.”

“Let me see you come for me, little wife”

Rating: 5 ~ Clecanian Stars!

It’s been a while since I’ve been swept up in the alien romance sci-fi craze but this book/series has officially catapulted me into it!

The author did an amazing job of creating a unique planet, diverse characters and a believable plot that deepened and threw in a few twists to keep you glued to the pages. Much like Jade, I was intrigued by Theo at first glance. Who wouldn't love a big, gruff man with a heart of gold? He was hardened by the years of rejection and belittlement that he had to go through because of his outward appearance but inside, he was still an honorable man who hoped against all odds for someone to love. Trust me, you will not be disappointed in Theo!

Not to say he didn't have his faults, because he did but I loved that Jade saw both the good and the bad and she accepted him unconditionally. After all, she knew she wasn't perfect and I loved that she adapted and matured with each new encounter. She was such a strong character both for herself and for Theo. It's rare for me to completely 100% love both MCs but Theo and Jade made it so easy.

The more I read the more I kept having to add names to my growing list of Heroes that need their own HEA/mate. At the top of my list is horny *wink wink* romantic Rhaego! Followed by Fejo (space pirate, ladies!) and after meeting the rest of Theo's brothers, that whole clan, lol!

There is so much more to explore within this series and I'm hoping more is coming and soon! It will be interesting to see what happens with the test subjects that were rescued along with Jade at the end and also to see how/if they bring about any changes to the female dominated Clecanians. Highly recommend.

Memorable Moments: Jade teaching Theo how to kiss! It was sweet and steamy :)

Favorite Line(s):
If he believed he’d be able to hold his sated female like this every night, then all the pain he’d been through in his life would’ve been worth it.

Would I recommend? Absolutely recommending. I loved Theo and the world he lives on is definitely interesting. I hope there’s be more soon that I can gush over, haha :)

4 very enjoyable stars!

The MC's don't meet until 25% in, and its a bit cheesy... a little immature. But the romance was sweat with a strong MC, especially the heroine. Predictable but in a not annoying way. Would recommend to anyone who is looking for a solid romance that will fill an afternoon :)

Safety:
No cheating
H isnt a manwhore
h isnt a virgin and was said to be 'sexually free spirited' when she was on earth
h meets one of H's ex-bedmates but it was only for a quick second and it didnt bother me
h is very attractive to the other men on the alien planet so she gets a lot of attention, which causes the H to be very jealous and possessive.
H and h are fated mates.
Slight physical abuse to the heroine
HEA 5 months out with pregnancy

Ok before I start, I liked this book just fine. It’s an alien romance, I’m not expecting more than a good time. But all that said…
Here’s how I think the writing process for this book went:
Group of people while drinking very strong margaritas:
Person 1- “She should be like abducted by aliens or something “
Person 2- “But like super hot aliens”
Person 3- “and have to marry one”
1- “but like she doesn’t want to…”
2-“but she does bc he’s super hot!”
3-“and he doesn’t know it! Also he’s a good cook! And had to graduate husband school so he’s like the best husband ever”
1-“then she gets kidnapped”
3-“ALSO THEY ARE MATES”
1-“I thought they were married”
3-“… they’re both cause it’s special…”
2-“and he’s hot”
Me in the back- *hiccup* “can there be a dog?”

Also in this world where women are basically worshiped and men will do anything for them, 99% of the males we encountered were douche-nozzles 🤷‍♀️

Hold up… are cheesy alien romances my new guilty pleasure?! This was just so wholesome and adorable. Suddenly, being abducted by aliens is sounding pretty appealing. 😅 I legitimately listened to the entire audiobook in one sitting. (On a Monday night!!) I don’t think I would be brave enough to carry these books around in the subway, but nothing could stop me from adding the rest of the series to my summer TBR. Let’s be honest, I DO judge books by their covers, but in this case, I was happy to be wrong. 🤗

First alien smut book ever??? How did I last so long without grumpy, possessive, dominant alien dick???? I couldn’t tell you.

This book was so much fun. Jade is captured by some reptilian aliens and crash-lands on a strange planet. Running through the woods for her life, she finds herself in a alien culture not too different from our own except the males literally go to husbandry school, are HAPPY to wait on females left and right, and females hold literally all the power. Ugh yes gimme!!! Enter Theo, the scarred, damaged, bad boy alien whom Jade chooses to marry, because she has to get married for a minimum of 3 months to immerse herself in their culture. At first he thinks she’s a spy sent to betray him, but when Theo finally opens up to her MY HEART I love him sm.

The world building is fun, the smut is hot, the culture is oh so satisfying. I didn’t love the 3rd person pov and it was a little rushed towards the end, but overall I had a blast.

Read if you like
✨ sci-fi romance
✨ alien smut
✨ forced/arranged marriages
✨ a dash of suspense
✨ no third act breakup (there’s a conflict but ya)
