Sunny is a fairly typical teenage girl – at least, she thinks she is – but when she wakes up on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere, she knows things have taken a turn for the worst. She can't remember who she is or where she came from, and there is something off about her that she can't quite put her finger on. But before she can even begin to find the answers to these questions, she is quickly picked up and whisked away by Finn, a haunted and devastatingly handsome young man claiming to know who, or more accurately what she is. Determined to keep her safe, he takes Sunny to Reverence, a secret ghost town deep in the Montana mountains that is filled with people just like her.
In an atmosphere thick with mystery and mistrust, Sunny learns the secret of what she is and must come to terms with her impossible new existence. But her own mental struggles to accept what has happened to her aren't all she has to deal with. Sunny's presence in Reverence has put everyone in danger of being found by the dreaded Hunters. These highly skilled government agents are trained to track down and capture people just like Sunny, and they're coming after her. The agent assigned to find Sunny is cold and calculating, and he's got a personal vendetta against her that requires him to stop at nothing to get to her.
Risen is a dark, exciting, and at times romantic look into what might happen if something were to go wrong between this life and the next. www.RisenBook.com

I just finished and I really liked this book. The story is WAY better than Twilight and Hunger Games. The story is interesting and I'm looking forward to book 2. There was a little cheesy, young adult romance, which usually drives me nuts. However, in this book, it wasn't over the top or too distracting. The story is unique and I had a hard time putting it down.

My first grievance with this book was that it was poorly edited. Every other page had punctuation in a different font, which I found distracting. It also could have been fifty pages shorter. Every paragraph of purple prose in which Sunny reflects on her situation, without ever coming to any conclusions about it, could have been easily pared down.

There was nothing about this book that held my interest. The mythology itself had errors. At one point it is explained to Sunny that Risen do not sleep and then two pages later she takes a nap. Oy.

I thought this book was a great read. I don't like fiction books, and I couldn't put this one down. That has got to say something!

A worthwhile read. You will find Sunny deep and fascinating. She's well written, as is the entire book, and very real. I found myself able to relate to her completely. The book starts out in the present tense but quickly shifts to the past as Sunny tells you about what brought her to this dark ally in which the story begins. As you hear about her journey you will feel for her, in death she questions many of the philosophical questions that we all wonder in life. She wants to know that there is purpose to her existence and I greatly enjoyed that this theme was carried on throughout the book.

The Risen are essentially zombies, although really the word `zombie' seems terribly inaccurate for these beings that Jensen has created. They're conscious human beings, just like living people, except that their hearts don't beat. They don't bleed or feel pain, and they have no memories of their lives before death. The concept was very intriguing. The only issue I had with Jensen's zombies was that she suggests they breathe, although it's never said that they need to breathe as it seems that they shouldn't, it was a little bit confusing of a contradiction.

However, while I loved Sunny I found I wasn't as able to connect with Agent Williams who narrates half the book. His motives are a little cliché, although Jensen does have some wonderful imagery that she uses while talking about his deceased wife and daughter. By the end of the book I found that I'd lost all understanding for him as he becomes very selfish and violent. While I wasn't as drawn to reading his point of view in this book I was crazy to get through it to read more about Sunny.

Jensen leaves you hanging on a cliff begging to know what happens next as she breaks up the story with two narrators. There is so much mystery here and the more you read the more you find out that everyone has secrets. Those surrounding Finn are the most interesting and you will be drawn to his character and the budding relationship between him and Sunny as well.

The relationship between Sunny and Finn is completely natural; I particularly was sucked into the scene where they're standing in the graveyard in the rain. The only thing that caught me off guard was when Finn told her he loved her, it felt a little out of place. With these characters having no real memory it made me wonder why, he barely knows her; but he does go on to explain that he has reasons for his feelings and I came to accept them as sincere truth. His reasoning of course opens up more questions and the biggest one for me is `did they know one another when they were alive?' I would love to see that be part of the sequel.

This book will have you believing that there is a bigger design to the world we know and it will leave you wanting to know more about just what is meant to happen to Sunny and Finn.

At the beginning I was captured, reading every anxiously holding my breath. I was amazing, then as the book went on it became worse and worse, I don't know what else to say. I was majorly dissappointed however I kept reading as I hoped it would get better and it did-but not until the last few pages but as for the 300 pages in-between the beginning and the end, I was bored. Will I read the sequel, no idea. The beginning was so good and with an ending like it had I would usually be sqealing for the next one but the middle wass so boring and dragging nothing exciting happened- at all. It had the potential to be such a great book, shame really. It was dragged out too long.

I would actually give this more like 2.5 stars. The beginning and ending of the book were great, lots of action, suspense, etc. However, I felt the middle was full of Sunny thinking about the same things over and over and over. Too much detail on people who I don't feel were very relevant to the story, although they may be more so in book 2. There was some beautiful imagery, but as others have said the editing was horrible. Don't know if I'll read the second one.

I had a hard time connecting for the first chapter, but after that it kept me glued to the pages. The romance part of the story was really cute; definitely the Young Adult vibe the book is geared toward, but you are totally rooting for them the whole way through.
It is written from different (and opposing) points of view which was probably my favorite part. It is like a two-fer.

It is the first in a sequel, so when you finish you are anxious to read book #2, Return.

RISEN is a novel by Britney Jensen. It is entertaining and intriguing. Her ability to tell various viewpoints in the story shows her true talents as a writer. I didn’t want the first book in her planned series to end and found I took my time reading as it came closer to the books completion. Risen is the story of Sunny, a teenage girl surrounded by mystery and mistrust–what has she become? I enjoyed the emerging love story and I was not disappointed.

I read a lot, and Risen captured me from the start, and I ate it up!
I love a book that takes you to the place where the author wants you to be, and you don't really leave, or want to, until the end. And this is a book you don't want to end!
I don't think Risen is a book for teenagers, as much as a love story/fantasy/action thriller for anyone with an open mind and heart!

I loved the book and it was clean! Very appropriate for my daughters.

I too found myself in living the life of Sunny... or day dreaming upon it. :)
