Learn to own and celebrate every part of you. Right here. Right now. Self-worth isn't about being a better, smarter, more polished version of yourself. It's about learning how your mind causes low self-esteem―and finding the right tools to break through those barriers so you can experience unlimited confidence and unleash your potential. In The Worthy Mind , internationally recognized personal-development coach Meadow DeVor shares life-changing insights that allow you to love yourself, respect yourself, and increase your self-worth, showing you how Digging deeper than ever before, DeVor explains where your sense of low self-esteem comes from and then guides you home to your true self. It's only when you embrace how you feel, what you need, what you love, and what you want that you can move through the world with ease, joy, and connectedness. Don't miss this powerful invitation to step into a self-love mindset―and a more meaningful life.
Meadow's take on how to improve self-worth focuses on shadow work - accepting and integrating all the undesired opposites of the emotions you believe others wish to see in you. In order for this complete self-acceptance to flourish, these neglected aspects need to be named, conversed with and accepted, keeping in mind the risks of what it means to live that kind of life
Meadow's accounts of raw emotional stories from her childhood and some of the described client work helps provide useful examples None of the information here is somehow arcane or secret and is not different from research you could do on your own by watching videos in this space, listening to podcasts or reading blogs, however Meadow helps collect it all into a very nice package, a useful framing that will maybe help me along my own mental health journey more than some other versions is have seen previously
The book has exercises after every chapter as well as journaling prompts that can be used to perform the described work yourself and they can be worth attempting if the content appeals
Thank you to Sourcebooks, Meadow DeVor, and NetGalley for the eARC of The Worthy Mind in exchange for my honest review.
I highly recommend that EVERYONE read this book. It makes you sit and think about who you are and what rules you hold for yourself. I initially picked this book up because as a graduate student in clinical psychology, I thought it would be good information to know about. I was not expecting to find this helpful in my own life. Yet Meadow DeVor has made this information so that it applies to everyone. It is also digestible and does not feel as though you are reading something that has a lot of professional jargon in it. The addition of real-life examples from Meadow DeVor's own life and the lives of those whom she has worked with drives home the message she is trying to send at the end of each chapter and the book. This book is something I will definitely recommend to friends, family, and my clients.
Yikes! Is there even one word in this book that hasn’t been written over and over again in other self help books? Completely underwhelming. 2 stars us being kind…
