Celtic Curses #2

The Guardian's Legacy

Magic isn’t the only thing that’s come back …

I’m Aisling. Guardian to an ancient magic. Unfortunately, I was clueless to that fact until recently when a secret order tricked me into releasing it. Now I’m waiting for the anvil to fall.

I’d almost convinced myself it was a bad dream… Until the sacrifices started.

Someone is targeting descendants of the Tuatha Dé Danann, and I’m on their hit list.

A mysterious dream guide insists that the magic has returned, weak though it is right now. I’ll have to learn to access it, and fast, if I’m to have any hope of surviving. Because magic isn’t the only thing I’ve to worry about now.

My mistake has opened Ireland up to a world of long forgotten myths and legends. And with them comes a thirst for revenge that will only be satisfied by blood.

I read book 1 and couldn't wait for this book! I love the idea of the battle between the Fomorians and the Tuatha de Danaan in a modern setting. It doesn't disappoint.

When our heroine, Aisling, was tricked to release magic back in the world, she thought it would be an immediate BANG here it is. Instead, it's slowly creeping back in stealthy ways.

Even though she was involved, it still seems like a distant dream, except, her fellow Tuatha de are being murdered and the people around her are starting to show mysterious powers. Could it all be real?

This is an exciting story written with smooth prose, and a steady build to an exciting conclusion. This is the kind of UF I adore. Where the magical elements seep in until you believe it all could be true!

I can't wait for the next!

I find this series to be refreshingly original. Aisling is just a normal person like us bumbling around in the dark trying to figure out what she's supposed to do and who to trust. I like the magic and mythological aspects. Can't wait to see what comes next.

After reading Guardians, book one in this series, I knew I was in for the ride of my life with this one but I didn't expect to be riding a gorgeous fast Lamborghini! A ride as thrilling as it was beautiful, a ride I'm addicted to! Not your usual fast paced action filled ride, in fact, there's nothing "usual" about this book at all! Steeped in Irish lore, one can't help but wonder if it's actually legend, myth or truth... portraying a glimpse into a world I'm fascinated with, I'm left even more fascinating by the end of the book with a dire need for more!

I couldn't help but feel the utmost sympathy for Aisling, after the manipulation by Bres and the royal mess up that ensued, I can totally understand her suspicion and her uncertainty, who to trust, who not to. Except for her best friend Teagan, there is no one she can trust, well perhaps Killian, he at least tries to teach her how to tap into her magic, a magic she had no idea she had until, well yeah, you'll see once you've read Guardian....and another complication, she has no idea how to tap into it! All she knows is she's the culprit, she's the one who's released magic back into the world, she's the one trying to figure out the repercussions and golly are there lots! And not only for her, for her friends, like Teagan and Pete...She does have help or rather an attempt at help by Killian, her guide who's in her dream world, yes, dream world, although he's really got his work cut out for him! Gosh are all these characters great!

Just over halfway through I felt as though someone sucker punched me. A very innocent conversation between Aisling and Killian about a witch and her children suddenly had me reeling! And screaming "foul"! Like no! It can't be! The author buries the truth deeply, very deeply, leaving speculation wide open and then shocks the bezoozas out of me! Gosh are these characters great! I LOVE that I don't know what they're going to do or say next, I LOVE that I'm thrown out by my assumptions or perhaps presumptions, I LOVE how I'm not sure who I do or don't like.... Bres, Brian, Dothur, Killian, a huge question mark, are they REALLY who they seem to be? They are and then they're not! So I'm thrown into turmoil yet again, the cool kind, the intriguing kind. And the plot, my goodness, what a great plot! Magic and mystery, intrigue and twists, murder and sacrifice...yep, all of that and more! And obviously, I want more, especially after that tantalising ending!

You'd think after all the trouble in book 1 that the Watchers would learn that maybe keeping Aisling in the dark isn't perhaps the best strategy, but it could also be that they truly don't realize just how much she is fumbling about in the dark. Things quickly go from weird to worse as the effects of magic being released back into the world start revealing themselves.

A new fling, a depressed roommate, some gruesome sacrifices and what a way to run into your ex! Somehow, no matter how bonkers the story line gets, it stays grounded and believable with just how down to earth Aisling is. Everything tied together naturally and flowed well even with some really big reveals.

If you haven't read The Guardian yet, start there as you need the context for this book. Fast, enjoyable read with one huge kicker of a reveal/teaser for the next book!

I love how this book followed on perfectly from the 1st.
I was lucky enough to get the ARC for this and I'm glad I did. Its such compelling reading, you can't leave it, you're eager to know what happens on the next page. I'm not a fan of that saying "I couldn't put it down" but I couldn't. It catapults you back into Aisling's world, of Ireland, magic, the Tuatha Dé Danann and not forgetting the Fomorians. You will shake your head and tut your way though this excellent book. I really do think this book is a perfect gateway to forgetting reality for a while. Its a easy 5 🌟 from me, and will happy recommend this.

3.5 stars rounded up because I really like this author and the series premise

But not happy with how little we and the MC know about what’s going on. She’s just bumbling around, not getting or even asking for help. She’s expected to help solve murders with no knowledge of what’s going on or her powers…by the group who does know. It makes no sense. If they really think she’s the key to solving it then you’d think they’d be trying to help and train her. Not blackmail her into helping by withholding information.

I received an ARC from the author, but this review is my own.
I really enjoyed seeing Aisling again, a few months after she was tricked into releasing magic back into the world, all she wants to do is forget it ever happened and carry on as before, unfortunately her life takes her in the opposite direction where she has to deal with things she never thought existed.
With some time and help, she faces everything that's thrown at her in a way she never thought she was capable of.
I'm rather excited to see her come into her power and watch her grow into the guardian she was destined to be.

This book was very hard to put down! Very engrossing story about what happened after the protagonist inadvertently brought magic back to Ireland. The chaos is inevitable, but the story woven out of it has plenty of surprises! Interesting working of Irish myth and modern day to create this book. Definitely recommend it!

Disappointed that I spend money on this book, if it had been a KU I could have overlooked issues. Prequel enticed me into buying this one…thought that Aisling would show some sort of promise other than weak doormat. Last few pages at 99% she finally showed some promise. The other 98% of book she was a weak doormat. Teagan on the other hand is a rockstar..I am not inclined to read the next.

Deeper and darker

Bottom line, I hope for a character to like and cheer on. The MC is sort of it but in a helpless way. The behavior of all the others...all men...even those on Aisling's side...is unpleasant to evil. The roommate, Teagan, is weak tea for all of who she's supposed to be. Everyone all told is annoying.

It was very wel written, it kept me on the edge of the chair.
Exciting spectaculair. Fun, asling, just a normal girl in the dark world stumbling around trying to figure out, what it is, she is here for. I’m a real supernatural addict. And love magic and myths. With this book you are in for the fastest rollercoaster ride of your life, it made me damn happy and can t wait for more.

What a page turner. I completed it in one session. Needless to say, my family isn't happy with me. Aisling just gets herself in deeper when all she wants to do is help out. And her friends seem to be victims of her previous mistake.

Can't wait for the next one!!

I really enjoyed the previous book in this series as well this author’s previous series so was excited for this latest one. I love Aisling, and really most of the other characters. While there was not a lot of movement in the plot, there were several things that happened that kept the book moving. I can’t say too much, but I can say the ending is an eerie cliffhanger that makes me want to read the next one. I’m wondering about a love interest in this series, and I think I see one after…well, read it to find out. Well-written, fun, and engaging. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

*sigh*

Oh, Aisling. Stubborn, naive TSTL girl. Once again, her terrible people reading skills caused her harm. I'm still holding onto hope that Bres will have a redemption arc, but I don't think he will. I do not like Brian, stubborn Watcher.

This is such an original and fun book! I am such a fan of mythology around the world and this has a battle of the Fomori against the Tuatha de Danann. Aisling is still stuck in the middle after her mistake bringing magic back into the world. She's being tutored in her dreams, but it is not as helpful as she would like it to be. Watchers are being murdered, something is happening to her best friend Teagan and she has to check in on her ex Pete as well. And if the folklore of the Fomori/Tuatha de Danaan wasn't enough, more magical beings are introduced as magic keeps coming back to the world. She must fight to help the watchers to stop evil beings and save Teagan as well. I love reading about all the Irish folklore and Aisling coming into her powers. She is not the immediate amazing heroine and has her faults. I am excited for the next book!

Aisling is just trying to get her life back on track after releasing magic back into the world (thanks Brees 🙄) She expected things to change bit, she's still going to work every day and hasn't noticed many changes. After her best friend Teagan receives word a student of hers has been killed, aisling gets a visit from the watchers. Watchers are being sacrificed. Shrugging it off, she continues on her way until Brian shows up with info about Teagan AND a demand for help. Oh, also her ex Pete is acting weird and his mam wants Aisling to check up on him. Join this journey through lore and myth to the heart of a guardian.

I really enjoyed this book, the first full-length story with Aisling and Co. Overall, I thought the story was excellent and I absolutely loved reading about places I actually know! I felt that Aisling’s refusal to believe that magic had been returned to Ireland was totally relatable. As she gradually comes to accept this to be true, her frustration at not being able to harness her own magic in order to help her friends is palpable.

There were a couple of things that brought it down to a 4.5* for me, but these were minor, underdeveloped (imo) plot points. I would definitely recommend this book, and look forward to reading the next - and future - installments.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
