In this momentous coming-of-age western, Rowdy must fight between his heart and what is lawful.
When rustlers steal from a ranch on the outskirts of Lincoln, Rowdy is called to join the hunt and bring them in. But after a fight breaks out and one of the bandits ends up dead, a family member sets out for revenge.
With love chasing Rowdy’s heels, tragedy strikes when his new beloved is attacked in an act of revenge by the dead rustler's brother, and the town becomes tangled in turmoil.
Rowdy, accompanied by new and old friends, sets out to track down those responsible for the attack and secretly hopes to find the attacker first so he can decide the lawful course of action…even though his heart craves revenge.
As the manhunt rides on, each must do their part if they hope to catch a killer.
"A compelling, engrossing adventure tale reminiscent of the years when Max Brand, Louis L'Amour, and Zane Grey filled book racks in stores everywhere." —Early Reader

Rowdy: To Catch A Killer by Chris Mullen The bullies of the west are renown. Cattle wrestlers and gangs are prevalent in historical stories and especially westerns. The advent of the gang attempting to come into the Lincoln, New Mexico. Their ill-advised attempt at cattle wrestling by the youngest members start a domino affect of problems. From over aggressive stocking, to murder the gang disrupts the town of Lincoln, that is recovering from its prior losses. The connections of Robertson, Mac, and Rowdy are put the the test. They find that their are stronger together and trust is their strength. Mullen shows that despite the problems he places his characters in shows that keeping cool, and trusting your true friends will help you through anything. This is a great resource for YA readers, and middle school teachers, showing that solutions are not always easier when you loose control of your emotions. It shows how respect is earned. That women are to be respected. Most of all standing up for your friends is important.
Excellent coming of age story geared toward young acults and those who enjoy westerns. The main character Rowdy is also an orphans and pretty much raises himself with the help of good mentors. As he makes difficult decisions, he comments about why he made those decisions.
