Lost and alone in the heart of London’s East End, a young-adult Jennifer struggles to find her reason to be. Eager to fill the empty void of her missing family, she’s constantly searching for the illusive Mr Right and lands herself in a succession of toxic relationships. She’s playing a role without a script and improvising without purpose or meaning. And there’s a vulnerability, in her, which is seized upon by others, just because it’s there. As another traumatic relationship is breaking down, and out of desperation to improve things, Jennifer decides to try and ‘find herself’ by a complete change of environment. And there starts a love affair with a foreign land. Everything’s wrong but at least she can rely upon her new substitute mother. Or can she? Hopeful again until the storm clouds gather. Storm Clouds Gather is a true story of loss, love and an almost unbreakable human spirit. Continuing the story from Jennifer’s previous books, Slipping Through the Net and Living on Empty.
This is for sure not the genre I usually read but the writing style is very readable and the story is so interesting that I didn’t stop 😶🌫️ The whole series is generally very sad and it’s so much worse knowing that it’s a true story. I recommend these books if you want some perspective on how tough things can be when you grow up without parents and have to just work it out.
