Dead End

Mr. Smith interrogates Thomas Arthur Vallee, another suspect in the assassination attempts against JFK, only to discover he is but a measly dot in the grand scheme... As for Lee Harvey Oswald, he never disappoints as the ideal culprit, a perfect scapegoat, even more so as Oswald's past is connected to an assassination attempt on retired general Edwin Walker in April 10, 1963. Oswald's biography is notoriously filled with such blind spots...

In the end, Kevin Yamagata fails to save JFK but protects Kevin Goodman, the son of Diane and Tony (the interracial couple from tome 5). As Oswald is tracked down by the police, J.D. Tippit is shot dead by the neferious Mr. Kurusu. Clues are piling up against L.H. Oswald, who finally hands himself in to the police in the Texas Theater to give Jackie Momochi time to give the slip to a hired assassin, on Kurusu's payroll.

Is it possible to deviate from the future envisioned by the black bat?

JFK assassinated, Oswald caught. Surely a mind bending twister of a series, but I am keeping it on a hold now.

Extended stretches of high drama are a forte of Urasawa’s, sensitive as he is to balance, to timing, to rhythm. So here. I thought matters had wrapped up with the character shift that closes Vol. 6, but no indeed, it turns out there was enough left to fill another whole volume and to cap it with the series' most impressive plot twist yet.

Jackie is beautiful.

I love the notion that it’s enough if one accurate record of the truth exists somewhere, even if buried or out of sight, one record to stand against all the inaccuracies and lies that may be heaped up against a person. It’s a notion rather like the eye of God.

4.5, This is one of those stories for me that is really hard to put down, it’s really good. Oswald finally gets to be a hero and the twist that was really shocking. But it’s not without some issue, my main problem was that Smith just randomly changed his mind about Kevin going to Dallas, as far as I read there wasn’t really a reason for him to change his mind especially after being shot, if anything getting shot would make him want to get Kevin out of there even more. It’s a relatively small issue but it did bother me. Overall though this was a great volume

Ex. Ce. Len. Tes. Ex. Pre. Siones.

The JFK arc comes to an predictable yet an unpredictable end.
I wonder if there are arcs that will surpass this one.
The suspense was insane. The layers to the story was immaculate!
And the characters... what splendid character development.
Urasawa is the Japan's current gen Dostoevsky, in most aspects (not comparing though).
I wonder what's next...
The moon landing was fake and Billy Bat was responsible?
No way.

I might drop the series here. It’s not bad, it’s just not really up my alley. Monster is in my top five favorite manga of all time and I really enjoyed 20th Century Boys as well, but this series just isn’t moving me or drawing me in like those two did. I don’t feel invested in the plot, the mystery of any of the characters.
