NIGHT OF THE PARASITE! Superman is overwhelmed as Parasite's new powers are unleashed! Can Superman stop all of Metropolis from being consumed by the power-hungry Parasite or will he need Lex Luthor's help to save the day? Introducing a new antihero—Marilyn Moonlight, the Spirit of Metropolis—who only operates at night! Is she friend or foe to the Man of Steel?! And how does she connect to Metropolis's secret past?
It's lost a little of the character charm as it's a fully plot driven issue, but it's still fun and engaging in its own superhero shenanigans way. Ending on another cliffhanger, the hook trick remains solid and, despite my slight criticism, I am eager for more.
Night of the parasite is a neat continuation with a multiplying zombie-like invasion force taking over Metropolis and forcing it into darkness. Luthor's whispering in Superman's ear is getting the slightest bit annoying, but I know the Man Of Steel will have to start listening to him soon. I started looking into this series more when the cover of issue #10 caught my eye in my LCS, depicting Superman in an old west setting, and you get a glimpse of that in this issue after the introduction (I assume she's new but don't know for sure) of a very cool looking, mysterious character named Marilyn Moonlight. She looks very cool, and the art in this title by Jamal Campbell continues to impress. I'm enjoying this run so far for sure.
Also can I say I just absolutely loved the homage to the animated series? This is so much fun :} It's a good story, Superman is facing an adequate foe who can take him on and be hopefully beaten back without it being a little too ridiculous... I hate when they make the villain so overpowered the hero seems helpless and then somehow magically gets stronger against all odds and wins... it makes no sense.
But this seems like something that could even out. And I cannot wait for the next issue.
I can see elements in this that could be interesting, like Parasite's powers evolving but I'll be honest after reading Joshua's Flash run I kind of expected a bit more. Like that was such a human story and so far Superman has been anything bit, it's just been smash smash and Lex talking.
I don't know maybe it'll redeem itself but it's hard to say so early on. See even the art is just alright, this is one of DC's biggest characters but for some reason he's always getting the short straw.
Accidentally reread the first issue, but I think that was a good thing, because it had been too long since I've b read it. I really liked this issue. It was very plotdriven but the plot is good. It wasn't just action scenes either but a good balance, and overall a very interesting issue with some horroresque vibes to it.
Will Superman spring Lex from prison? Will Rudy recombine? Will Lois stay hungry? Who knows but let's find out. Great artwork and a good story. Don't let Lex win Sups.
Got this book solely for the first appearance of Marilyn Moonlight and it did not disappoint! Can’t wait to see more of the mysterious, badass vigilante!
