A simple and quick read! Beware the dark side of reading. As with most things of value, simply reading this book is not enough. If you are to get the most out of this book and it's wisdom regarding habits, rituals, and templates, you will need to invest some time in yourself, create some commitments, perform some self examination, and take some actions to experiment with the concepts shared. And keep trying. These do not develop overnight.
If you've read Hyatt's books, some of these concepts will be familiar. I found that in this book he goes deeper with the concepts of rituals, habits, and templates. Of course, if you use Hyatt's planner, I assume you will be more familiar with and may already use and benefit from his suggestions.
The full title of the book is “No Fail Habits: Design the Daily Rituals That Help You Win at Work and Succeed at Life.” It is published by the Michael Hyatt Company and apparently written by the staff rather than Hyatt himself. That is a first following many other successful titles written by the company’s founder and namesake. This book offers basic advice for forming new habits. It offers advice on self-automation and ways in which we can get more control of our time. • “Self-automation works by transferring routine decisions and tasks to your subconscious, freeing you to focus on higher priorities.” • “Willpower is good for short bursts of intense focus. But it demands too much of your brain’s processing power to be effective for long. • “You need to tap the part of your brain that does things automatically, without having to make a decision about the action constantly. • “Close up, a ritual is a daisy chain of self-automation. The authors describe four ‘foundational rituals” they suggest we develop: morning rituals, workday startup, workday shutdown, and evening rituals so that we make the best use of our time. They need to be paired with three rejuvenation rituals. They included knowing when to stop thinking about work and to design your day around your peak energy levels. The book is a quick read (135 pages) and is ideal for someone who is frustrated by the many interruptions and inefficiency at life.
Those who have read Hyatt’s materials in the past as well as subscribe to his courses and planners, may not find as much new material here as they hoped.
I like this book because it doesn't cite a lot of research and other people's words. I wanted to understand what was my problem and how I can fix it. Automating parts of my day and week, as well as using templates for certain types of work to increase efficiency and eliminate decision fatigue, are exactly what I needed.
This book helped me get in, work on my problem, and get out.
I didn't want to be convinced that these ideas were useful and worthy, like some books do. I chose the book because I already valued the source. And it delivered in 135 pages.
This is a very short book. As a long time user of Michael Hyatt's Full Focus Planner, most of the stuff in this book is stuff I have heard before.
The book is worth a read if you are looking for information on how to stop bad habits and instill good ones. Each chapter ends with a chance for you to put your new skills into practice. If intentional habit setting is what you need, this book will get you started.
I love thinking about my habits, rituals, routines, etc. This was a great book to trigger that reevaluation. I am a big fan of Michael Hyatt & Co. I am a Full Focus planner user (est. 2 years). I love all the discussion and ideas. I love both podcast too. This book is basic and a good introduction to principles in the entire Michael Hyatt & Co system. I would recommend.
