Pagan Portals - Rounding the Wheel of the Year: Celebrating the Seasons in Ritual, Magic, Folklore and Nature

Rate this book
Every month is full of magic, each day has its own energy, and the seasons rotate as part of the cycles of nature. Pagan Portals - Rounding the Wheel of the Year looks at ways to honour each month with folkloric customs, herb and plant lore, traditional crafts, spells, visualisations, and pagan rites that go beyond the eight festivals of Imbolc, Spring Equinox, Beltane, Summer Solstice, Lammas, Autumn Equinox, Samhain, and Winter Solstice. The wheel of the year turns smoothly, it doesn't bump over eight cogs, and that's the meaning of the title of this book. Inside these pages you will find the history behind some much-loved folklore and modern pagan customs, as well as practical suggestions for ways to celebrate the turning of the year.

I went into this expecting about the standard wheel of the year fare, with a little extra to fill in the other months, but I got so much more out of this than I expected. Each month has some history, some lore on flora, and suggestions on how to celebrate. There are rituals and guided visualizations included, which I really appreciated, and even if you don't exactly follow the rituals included, they're a good springboard for making your own. I think my favorite part though was the lore and uses of flowers and other plants that were included. I ended up learning quite a bit as I read through this. It's well organized, and while you can jump around and only read the month you're in or preparing to enter, you can also easily read it cover to cover. Definitely recommend for pagans looking for inspiration on ways to celebrate all months of the year.
