About Me I believes the only thing sexier than a man in cowboy boots is two, or three men in cowboy boots. I also believes in love at first sight, soul mates, true love, and happy endings.
I live in the great Northwest region of the USA, with my gorgeous husband and soul mate, two boxer/collie puppies, one old biddy cats, and three fish. When I'm not being a mother to my six teenagers or cleaning up after my two 70 pound lap puppies, you can usually find me cuddled in bed with a book in my hand and a puppy in my lap. Or on my laptop, creating the next sexy man for one of my stories.

Book two in the 'Phoenix Rising' series was just as much fun and as interesting as the first book. More of the mystery of these phoenixes was revealed lending information and details in a way that was entertaining but kept the story flowing smoothly. I was very impressed that the excitement continued at the same pace as in the prior book which just made me want to read more.
Kyle grew up in the bad part of town. One night he's attacked, stabbed repeatedly, and thrown in a Dumpster. He wakes up in the morgue with a stranger standing over him. The stranger rescues him from two thugs who come looking and takes him somewhere he'll be safe. Then the stranger tells him an outlandish story that Kyle isn't sure he's buying. So when the stranger leaves, promising to be back, Kyle hightails it out of there. For you see, Kyle is a firm believer in self-reliance since he's pretty much had to take care of himself his entire life.
Detective Tony can't believe it when he's called to the scene of a murder to discover the dead man shares many physical similarities to the last "corpse" that left the morgue. Wanting to make sure about his hunch, Tony goes to the morgue on day three just in time to watch Kyle's eyes open and his wounds heal completely. Now he's on the run with the sexiest guy he's ever seen from a pretty bad guy who will stop at nothing to get his hands on Kyle. Disappearing from the area and making new lives for themselves seems to be the only solution.
Here's where I really started to enjoy the story. After Kyle is kidnapped, Tony gets the help of some "friends", guys whose secrets he keeps and vice versa, to rescue Kyle. These other characters decide the whole situation is way more fun than what they've been up to lately so they're going to tag along to offer extra protection. Something tells me there's more to these guys and that they are going to be a lot of entertainment and possible story additions. The group also gets Sal, Riojos' brother, and his bartender, Tibo, along for the ride as they are now in the crosshairs, too.
The ending is fantastic and still left plenty of unknowns out there to be discovered. The book left me wanting more stories so I can get to the bottom of the mystery of the Phoenix!
NOTE: This book was provided by Siren Publishing for the purpose of a review on Rainbow Book Reviews.
It pretty much began with inconsistency. So Kyle has red hair “like Collin”? Except Collin didn’t have red hair. His wig was red. Okay, they later mention that Collin’s more of an auburn as opposed to Kyle’s fire-red, but still. I mean why would Collin have worn a red wig to disguise his red hair? :P
It is interesting (and satisfying) to note that despite having the same combination of build and age again, the protagonists still felt like their own people and not copies of the previous ones. I actually liked them. They were cute together and Kyle has that slight note of unreasonableness that sometimes can be endearing.
It’s just funny that the actual plot follows basically along the same lines as the first book’s.
And yet it still feels enjoyable and not like a carbon copy. Go figure. Although it is true that I am in a mellow mood currently so that might tinge my reactions.
What did get a bit annoying were those reassurances that while Tony was not a shining example of a cop, he was not a crooked one either. We just have to take the authors’ word for it because it seems to me that he was looking the other way more often than not, in order to gain favours with criminals. To let drug dealers go for your own gain? If that’s not inherently wrong, then I don’t know.
Автор растянула одну историю аж на три книги. Во второй части происходит то же самое, что и в первой, только с другими персонажами. Спасибо, что не 20 книг с одним сюжетом как в Миднайт Мэтинг.
typical lynn hagen serial romance. nothing fantastic, nothing so bad it can't be finished. what is typical lynn hagen? imagine a shorter harlequin romance but with no t&a (see, i was going to write no surprise pregnancies, but... yeah.).
out of sheer laziness, i will be using this as my template for all books by : lynn hagen stormy glenn scarlett hyacinth carol lynne gabrielle evans
unless otherwise noted. i'd apologize, but i'm not sorry. i figure it's about as much time as they put into their books. dammit! well, i made it all the way to the end being rather moderate in my assessment. that's a win.
I think I enjoyed this one a bit more than the first. I think it's an interesting concept and series, I'm definitely eager to know more about what's going on.
I actually didn't care that much for Kyle. I thought he was a douche. I did like Tony though. My heart did break for Kyle though when he found out the truth :(
