Kody is a rogue lion working for the council enforcing their rules. When he receives a call from Alpha Stellan to go check on Benji, a man that disappeared three years ago, Kody agrees. This is a fun, light read about three male lion shifters who each have their own dark secrets and histories, have suffered rejection in various forms and have no idea how to have a two-way relationship, never mind a triangle of love interests. I must admit that I really liked this book, even though it wasn't anything radically new and the plot was more about the developing relationship(s) that any big, dark secrets. But then, I am a fan of Stormy Glenn's books and love most of what she writes.

Benji has suffered rejection from the man he knows is his mate, left his pride to buy a farm 300 miles away and is now inexplicably being beaten up by a gang of town bullies on a regular basis. The town sheriff is in league with them, so it's pretty hopeless. His mate, Stellan, who has no clue he really is Benji's, finally sends Kody, a lone enforcer, to check stuff out - rather than doing it himself. Once Stellan hears how bad things are, he does make the trip - and that is when the threesome discovers they are all mates and the REAL chaos starts.

If you like a simple, straightforward romance about a suffering man with steely determination to survive and two stronger males who can't wait to come to the rescue, you will probably like this book.

This book just did not do it for me. I'm used to Stormy's minor inconsistencies with plot, but these guys just didn't have any connection, and there were two BIG errors and one plot thing that I can't wrap my head around why someone didn't point it out to the author or why she didn't see it herself:

Despite that, it wasn't 1 star horrible, just really bad, so two stars.

After rereading this book, I definitely had to increase my star rating, and write a review!

"The mate of the alpha does not have a scent before being claimed, nor can they shift. It keeps other alphas from trying to claim them before their true mates find them.” Kody was in no way surprised when his words were met by silence. He imagined they were quite a surprise for the alpha. “Stellan?” “You’re lying.”
"No, I’m not. The ability to shift and the mate scent only comes in after their true mate has claimed them. It’s nature’s way of keeping them safe. The sure way for an alpha to know he’s met his mate is the lack of scent.”
"Fuck, Kody, do you know what this means?” Stellan asked after a moment.
"It means you’re an asshole.” Kody snapped his cell phone closed. He had no doubt that Stellan would be on his way down to Potter’s Creek within the hour."

I fell for Benji right from the start. How could I not? He's always thought there was something wrong with him, he can't shift, his mate doesn't want him, etc., and he has no idea why. When Stellan brought a fiancé back to the pack, Benji left. That was three years ago and his life has been one miserable moment after the other. Some local thugs where he lives have decided that Benji is their personal punching bag and have been beating him practically to death, repeatedly. It is only when the local pride contacts Stellan for help, that Stellan even knows where he is, and sends Kody. Whom, by the way, I completely adored.

Oh, men. They can be such PITA's sometimes. Once Benji figures out that Kody is his mate, too, and then he hears from Stellan that because Stellan wasn't raised in a pride and had no clue about the no-scent thing, well.....this just changes everything. Kody is angry that Benji is willing to eventually forgive Stellan. Kody is angry at Stellan for what he perceives to be all Stellan's fault. Stellan is angry/upset at both Kody and Benji because he's feeling left out. Sigh. Men.

So, so, so glad I went back and reread this book. I'm a big Stormy Glenn fan so it's no wonder that I adored this first book and am looking forward to more in the series.

This was not a bad book, but there were a few things that totally ticked me off. There are the small inconsistencies about what it is like to be an Alpha mate, and why Benji is that way but Kody is not. Then I am not a fan of menage at all, except when it is very well done, but it is not really in this book. The biggest wiggle I had with the book, though is that I did not like Benji. At all. First he wallow in self-pity, being totally pathetic. Then he changed from doormat to a spitfire, blowing temper tantrums over everything, like a three year old. He just assume the worst, and then throw his toys out of his cot (and he is usually wrong. So a temper tantrum over nothing. What a lovable guy). I can't stand that character trait, so it sort of blow the story for me.

I never expect a lot from books involving shifters and menages, but even so, Cat's Pride was a let down. The main issue I have with this book is that two of the three main characters are idiots: Benji for staying somewhere where he was subjected to regular, brutal beatings and Stellan for not reading Lion Alphas for Dumbies or learning even the basics about mating for alphas, since every other lion shifter seemed to aware of a vital fact that he was oblivious to.

I rather liked this, there was a nice bit of emotion in it, poor Benji was very unlucky, he forgave Stellan quicker than I would've done. I then read book 2A Little Bit of Heaven which I didn't like as much as this one, but on the whole I would enjoy reading more from this series (if there will be more)

Stormy Glenn is probably one of the few who can dissapointed me in a shifter book. *sigh* It got a decent intro that slowly disintegrated. As the story crumbled, so was the rim around the giant plot hole.

Oh, the pity trip. 12 % in and I want to smash somebody's head in. Benji is the poorest soul in the world. And a moron. You get beaten up all the time and have your place trashed and have stuff stolen and you just roll over and take it like a good little b*tch. And this is supposed to be a man? I'm not saying to go all caveman and fight since loosing wouldn't help in any way. But in what country does he live? No local authority? I don't care that the criminal is sheriff's brother. He still has to do his job, if he doesn't there are other actions to take. But no. It's easier to just roll over.
I don't feel pity for him, because this is done in a bad way. Half of the pity is because of his stupidity.
There is begging for pity in almost every sentence!

Also the writing style (12% in) feels too detail (probably just to have word count). Something like He did that, took that and went in and then did this and that in such a way. Like way over the top. The only thing missing would be telling how he puts one foot in front of another while walking. Sometimes less is better. It's better to say simple things in short instead of writing an essay on every action.

The big misunderstanding hinged on the fact that Benji apparently had no scent to Stellan (and other lion shifters?)...

Neumus, to Stellan, when discussing Benji: He smells like alpha mate to me. (p.27)

Ok, so he has no scent only to his mates? But then!

soldier, to Stellan, about finding Benji: Alpha, I don't mean to be impertinent, but why don't we just sniff him out? (p.93)

Stellan: Because Benji doesn't have a scent.

O_o So does he or doesn't he smell?

Not the best story. I think part of the issue was it relied too much of the Big Misunderstanding and those never really go well.

I just had to comment on the names.
There was Stellan who was planning on mating a female named Stella. Why do their names have to be so similar?
But Stella ended up being the mate for Stellan's brother Salome. Salome? WTF? That is not a male name. Like at all.

I got confused for a second and thought Stella was really a lesbian, until I reread and realized Salome was Stellan's brother.
A bit weird...

Oh man...I had to fight to get through this one. I didn't really care for any of the characters...Benji was pathetic, Stellan was an ass, and Kody was pointless. I thought the whole no-scent-mate thing was a poor excuse of conflict, and just thought there were so many plot holes and just..blah! I'm so tired of the plots being the Big Misunderstanding!

Beyond silly and 45 minutes of my life I'll never get back. Neither MC was 3-dimensional or engaging; the story was unoriginal; and the ending - you guessed it! - predictable. I was completely disgruntled when I finished and wishing there was a way to request a refund.

Stellan didn't know that an alpha's mate had no scent so he didn't claim Benji as his mate. when Benji thinks he's being rejected in favor of Stellan's fiancé, he runs. Three years later, Stellan gets word that Benji is in trouble and sends Kody to check it out. Stellan learns about alpha's mates finally and goes to claim Benji as his mate. The surprise is that he has two mates. A slight delay in their mating as they deal with Benji's tormentors and traitors to the pride is caused but they finally end up happily mated.

Very quick paced. I would have definitely preferred more in depth story. A lot of internal dialog is but no conversations between the MCs, hence all the miscommunication. LOVED the storyline and plot. Would have also enjoyed more spicy times with all 3 mates together.

Everything happened so fast - it felt like the whole thing took place in one night. It would have been nice if we were able to tell how and when Stellan got claimed.

Scent of a Mate 1

Benji ran away from Stellan three years ago when he discovered that they were mates. Not because he didn't want the alpha as his mate but because Stellan refused. But now Benji's in trouble and his sexy mate may be the only thing that can save him.
Stellan wanted Benji the moment he met him, but Benji didn't have the mating scent. Reluctantly, Stellan agreed to mate with someone else. What he finds when he arrives is a mess so terrible he has nothing left to do but call in the alpha, especially when Kody learns that both Benji and Stellan are his mates.

Summary:

As this story unfolded it reminded by of an almost Shakespearean comedy of errors. Stellan may be the alpha of his pack, but ignorance of pack culture made him deny his feelings for Benji forcing him to disappear. When Stellan refused to accept Benji as his mate it reinforced his negative feelings about not being worthy of friendship let alone love of a mate. His life went from bad to worse as he found himself at the mercy of another pack whose members seemed to enjoy hurting him. If it wasn't for one very good family, the Ranger’s, Stellan may have never known where he went. Kody was sent to see if Benji was safe, but he never expected that Benji would be his mate. This incredible story was filled with wonderful characters who struggled through the difficulties in life to find the happiness that everyone hopes for.

Stellan is Alpha and he is attract to Benji. He just always believe that mates would have a scent, unknown to him is that Alpha mates have no scent. So he bring home Stella as his soon to be mate, Benji could not stay and watch them be mated. He leaves and goes to a new town. While he has move from the Stellan. He finds himself in trouble with the local bullies, they would come and destroy his home, take his stuff and beat him up. When Stellan is notify that there is problem with Benji he ask Kody to check up and see what is going on. Kody finds Benji beaten and near death. They are told that Benji needs his mate blood to repair the damage to his body. Unknown to all that they will find out that they are all3 mates and what problems arise from this. Just love the story, just sad for all the pain that Benji went through. This is a must read book.

Glenn's work as always been a hit or miss with me... I find most of her work to start off strong with the promise of a good read but seem to fall short. There as always been a problem with inconstancy, missed facts, information placed with no purpose, disjointed plot and overall confusing character personality shifts. Not that Glenn isn't a great writer, on the contrary, because believe me when I say that she has a great skill in weaving words. What I will say is that I feel she loses track easily and the story seems to unravel.

In this story I've found most of the issues that I mentioned above causing this story to fall apart. Maybe this could be salvaged if this was a longer story that allows for the problems to be ironed out. But alas, I get frustrated when there are so many inconstancy issues. Other than that it was a nice read, not great, but enjoyable.

I equally enjoyed and hated this book. The story was interesting, but after 40-50% if was completely rushed. It had so much potential, but there were so many holes and unfinished plot points. The characters were not well developed. There was little secondary character development. The book was riddled with inconsistencies. The word "distainted" is used in the fifth paragraph, and it's not even a word. I'm not a huge fan of ménage books unless they are very well written, and this ménage felt very lopsided. I'm going to give the second book in the series a try, but if it isn't at least a four star read I'm giving up on this series and this author.

typical Stormy Glenn serial romance. nothing fantastic, nothing so bad it can't be finished. what is typical Stormy Glenn? imagine a shorter harlequin romance but with no t&a (see, i was going to write no surprise pregnancies, but... yeah.).

out of sheer laziness, i will be using this as my template for all serials by UNLESS motivated otherwise by markedly good/bad writing:

I suppose the best thing I can say about it is that it didn't suck. I liked it well enough that I finished it in one sitting.

Most of the book is a huge pity-party. Benji and Stellan feel sorry enough for themselves that I just wanted Kody to take control and kick both their asses...and when he didn't I wanted to go into the book and kick his ass.

I'm afraid the there were element of this story that switched up and made it unbelievable. The characters weren't as catchy as previous books. The story of Benji being beat up by the local thug and having no option but to take it seemed a bit hard to swallow. This one just didn't do it for me.

Jeez I seriously wanted to beat Stephan upside the head, but he turned into a great loving mate. Even though he kept putting his foot in his mouth. And I really liked how Benji started to stand up for himself, and how Kody was the mainly silent pillar of strength for them. On my favorites list!

It is very expensive to be a shifter: you have to literally change two to three sets of clothes every day because it happened you met somebody that you like. Something makes me think they all wear Prada or Armani (alpha thing and all...)

Книга похожа на комедию положений. Персонажи картонные и действуют по очереди. Основная проблема заклеймить свою пару,но так как их трое карусель получается. Героев не прочувствовала и не поняла их чувств.
