Volume 11 of Frieren sees the decisive conclusion of the Macht and the golden city saga. Plus, a prologue to the next arc to whet the Frieren-Himmel shippers appetites!
The recently concluded arc is the series’ most intense yet, with climactic battles against powerful foes. Macht, a former sage of destruction of the demon king’s army is already a demon with an extinction level power, Frieren and friends also need to contend with Solitär, a greater demon with an insatiable thirst of knowledge, an anti-Frieren of sorts with as sizable mana level and control as our favorite baba-elf. Our heroes have their work cut out for them.
Not only did it give the reader a titanic conclusion to the arc, but it also gives us a meaty prologue to the next one. Frieren of the present time meeting Himmel and their party mates in some sort of time travel magic.
Hyped for the next volume. It will probably be my most awaited one for 2025.
I feel like my heart is being squeezed right now. I WASN'T EXPECTING A PREQUEL TO COME AFTER THE EL DORADO ARC. THIS IS JUST SO WONDERFUL. THANK YOU 😭 I really like to get to know Himmel so much—the memories of the past aren't enough for me. HERO PARTY HERE WE GO!!
two great battles in this volume that had me on the edge of my seat: frieren v solitar and macht v denken!solitar really gave frieren a run for her money lol
The showdown of Frieren and Denken vs. Macht and Solitär is more exciting than I could have hoped. One key scene literally caused my body to convulse, and I had to force myself to stop rereading it on a loop just now in order to finish writing this review.
I know this is a fantasy series, but at heart I love these books because Frieren is my favorite neurodivergent superhero.

This was an alright volume for me. I’m not big on action, but I loved catching the subtext and seeing Frieren at work. She’s come to put faith in others to get their jobs done and it works out in the end.
I was going to give this volume a two BUT THEN THAT ENDING. WHY DID I BURST INTO TEARS.
Denken and Frieren struggle against Macht and another demon over the fate of a land turned to gold. Things look a bit dire, but sometimes a little faith can work wonders. And this is a story that knows for wonders.
Well, that sure was a long battle. Everything I enjoy about Frieren is on display here though. It’s clever, Frieren has such obvious disdain for the demons it drips from every pore, the villains are just complicated enough (okay, Macht is), we get the series’ trademark vignettes, and it shows real character growth.
The little touches make Frieren sing. I love that Macht turns out to genuinely want to learn to understand and coexist with humanity, but he can’t be allowed to because his actions will kill scores of people before he figures it out. The implementation of the demons in this series has been a consistent point of excellence.
It isn’t an especially hilarious volume, no Frieren hanging out of something gag, but the uniquely daft nature of the grimoires that Frieren collects never fails to amuse me with how mundane they are. The one that gets introduced here is very neat and leads to a cute moment later on.
Post-battle, we get some of the aforementioned vignettes of travel, the sort of thing that this series also does well. Because it does everything well. There is a quest on behalf of an apothecary that has a wonderful and awe-inspiring payoff that just feels so interesting and unique.
That digression, which has a small hook to the past, conveys how Frieren continues to learn from humans. That learning and lack of disdain is what separates her from her contemporaries like Serie. It’s subtle, but it’s there.
We’ll see where this next storyline goes. I don’t know that this needed to happen, but part of it is alluded to earlier by something Frieren says and I trust the story enough to come through with something interesting. It certainly makes for a hell of a hook to leave things on.
This is a classic in the making and continues to be as strong as it ever was. I know it’s still my favourite manga of all time and I dearly hope that my opinion of it never flags because it is an absolute delight every time a new volume is out.
5 stars - the devil is often in the details and this manga knows where every one of those devils is hiding. Excellent volume of an excellent series.
Denken and Lektüre 😭🥰 They kind of remind me of Frieren and Himmel in the sense that they lost so much valuable time together because one didn't realise how in love they were.
Sassy Frieren speaking with Macht and Solitär! I just love how she takes no talk from a demon.
I loved Frieren vs Solitär, it was so intense. Frieren really kept her composure when lied to about Fern and Stark's current situation. The comment definitely pissed her off enough to get stronger and make her fight harder. I love how Frieren believes in Fern and Stark, learning from Himmel to believe in her comrades. She's always thinking, analysing, and planning ahead, and that's how she wins- by being the smartest ☺️
"Aren't you going to plead for your life?" "Do you want me to?" "No."
So glad Weise is restored, and the people who have done wrong are being rightfully prosecuted- I'm looking at you, Lord Glück.
The tiny side quest about the ruined crops and ancient golem chef was cute, a reminder that Frieren not only lost the Party of Heroes, but her master Flamme too.
The sky mountain dragon was cute! Cue the sad flashback to Himmel talking to Frieren about it, telling her his wish and knowing she'll one day achieve it for both herself and on his behalf😓
The trio have three weeks to kill before continuing their journey, so they go to see the monument of the Goddess so Frieren can waste time deciphering the enchantments, but oh my God, that time travel plot twist?
'Fifty-three years before the death of Himmel the Hero. Seven years after the after the heroes' departure.'
Absolutely amazing. The battle is a few chapters long but also very interesting the whole time. It's really two battles happening at once, and I was worried for everyone involved, simply cause characters can die here. But I also loved the ending of this, and the simple stories after were very effective as well. Oh and those final few pages? All in color? Absolutely stunning.
A city was cursed by a demon named Macht, who was the teacher of Denken. Macht is a demon who wants to know how human emotion works. Gluck was robbed and made a deal with the demon. The demon works for the family of Gluck and he will teach the demon about human emotions.
Frieren read the mind of Macht to learn about how to reverse the curse that Macht used to turn a whole city into gold. During this time, she is incapable of doing anything else. Fern and Stark looked after her. And they got separated when the city of gold widened its affected area.
Solitar is a demon who is so powerful that no human who saw her has lived long enough to write down anything about her. The nameless demon is powerful and dangerous.
Fern tried to fight Solitar and failed at first. Now Frieren is going to confront Solitar while Denken fights Macht.
The story is intriguing in a serial killer way. Demons are like serial killers who don't feel remorse, guilt or empathy.
Really good manga. 5 stars read. The breakdown of chapters is below.
Chapters 98 - 107 Chapter 98 Reward and Retribution Denken in the gold state dreamed of his dead wife. He awake by Frieren returning him to normal. He wonders how many years have passed and found out it is only an hour. Macht and Solitar are too powerful to hide her mana. The battle begins.

Chapter 100 The fundamental of Magr Solitar is powerful opponent. She also infuriating to pretend pleading for her life when she is about to kill Frieren. Denken battle is interesting as well. He remembers the movement from his training days. And choose to use new magic.

Chapter 107 The Goddess Monuments Frieren wants to visit the Goddess Monument. And when she touches the monument, she is transported to the past. She sees Himmel again.
J'adore.
For an individual who lives countless lifetimes, what is the meaning of existence? Frienren continues to gather experiences and reflect. What may seem inconsequential apears to leave profound impact. Change is slow but inevitable if shown true kindness, connection, meaning belonging, encouraging growth and hope. More life or death battles, monsters, magic, adventure, friendship, teamwork, hope, questioning the meaning of life, emotional.
Au début j’étais ouais ouais bon le combat dure un peu longtemps et je lis pas frieren pour les gros combats on va dire, mais par la suite gros omg donc ça se jouait entre une moitié 3/5 et l’autre 5/5 !!!!
