Enrico Ghezzi

Born in Lovere (Bergamo) in 1952, Enrico Ghezzi entered RAI, the Italian public service television company, in 1978 and was made responsible for film programming on RAI3. He offered cinema lovers a number of unusual and carefully chosen film cycles, such as "The dark mirror", "Eccentric visions", "Crazy women", "The magnificent obsession", "Colour black and white" and "Cinema of '68", many accompanied by on-screen commentary. Author of a well received book on Stanley Kubrik, he tried his hand at directing himself in 1987, shooting the 7-minute short "Gelosi e tranquilli" (Jealous and calm), part of a film in episodes directed by fifteen of the so-called "New Italian School" directors.
In 1988 he created, and still often presents, "Fuori orario" (After Hours), a late-night programme on RAI3, which shows things "never before seen" from the archives of TV broadcasters all over the world, offering sub-titled scenes from rare films and extreme examples from the international cinema culture. He achieved notoriety with "Blob", a programme created by Marco Giusti, which has been one of RAI3's most popular programmes since 1989. "Blob" introduced a new kind of TV programme, pulling apart and laying bare the communicative techniques of the television medium, creating a sophisticated intellectual linguistic game.

Cinema by Claude Chabrol and many others – you should check The New York Times’ Best 1,000 Movies Ever Made list, see what you have checked from there, and eventually, you check a few hundred reviews, on motion pictures and remarkable books, on my blog – here is the plug for what is the best short there https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/20... and maybe anywhere...on the topic

9 out of 10

There was a good film last night, Claude Chabrol was the director, and it wasn’t even one of his best, La Ceremonie, La Femme Infidele, or another, it was The Color of Lies, and I was checking my reviews on Goodreads…

- The idea came that there are some steps one should take before plunging into the world of Cinema

Easy Riders, Raging bulls https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/20... would be one way to start, evidently, most people just watch the shows, Netflix, or t=at the theater

Nevertheless, it would help the cinephile, the movie lover, if he tried some of the fundamental works on the ‘industry’, maybe the best is Adventures in The Screen Trade by William Goldman, who has won two Academy Awards
He was the screenplay writer for Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid and All The President’s Men – the latter about Nixon’s Watergate, that was the president who said ‘if the president does it, then it is not illegal’, and now the USA has this Orange Woland, applying that notion, to the limit – and those two won Oscars

In his classic https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/20... William Goldman explains the principles of making movies, about auteur films, stars and shenanigans, his trouble with Redford and much more
Another interesting read is the dialogue between Francois Truffaut and Alfred Hitchcock, two of the most celebrated directors, https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/20... though it is more revealing on the work of Hitchcock, once the epitome of the auteur, a notion rejected by William Goldman, who is in fact giving the evidence in his work, with examples from Jaws to Chariots of Fire

This turns out to be a note on books to read – before I forget, there is New York times Best 1,000 Movies list, you should check TIME 100, also BFI 100, though the latter is really strange for most movie goers – if you are interested in movies
In my case, another work was really entertaining, albeit the veracity of many of the stories may be questionable, most of them are checked however, indeed, you find the author in Easy Riders, Raging Bulls

Besides, he really was instrumental, as producer, in some cases the head of Paramount, for legendary motion pictures, The Godfather I and II, Chinatown, Rosemary’s Baby, and the successful (though out of my 10,000 best list) Love Story
This is Robert Evans https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/20... who has started as an actor, he was a producer, then head of Paramount, when the aforementioned classics were made

The Godfather (I and II) is up there in the best five, however much tastes change – and they do, The British Film Institute has posted a newer Top 100, and at number one they have a film I have never heard of, and not seen yet

Now for my standard closing of the note with a question, and invitation – maybe you have a good idea on how we could make more than a million dollars with this https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/20... – as it is, this is a unique technique, which we could promote, sell, open the Oscars show with or something and then make lots of money together, if you have the how, I have the product, I just do not know how to get the befits from it, other than the exercise per se

There is also the small matter of working for AT&T – this huge company asked me to be its Representative for Romania and Bulgaria, on the Calling Card side, which meant sailing into the Black Sea wo meet the US Navy ships, travelling to Sofia, a lot of activity, using my mother’s two bedrooms flat as office and warehouse, all for the grand total of $250, raised after a lot of persuasion to the staggering $400…with retirement ahead, there are no benefits, nothing…it is a longer story, but if you can help get the mastodont to pay some dues, or have an idea how it can happen, let me know

As for my role in the Revolution that killed Ceausescu, a smaller Mao, there it is http://realini.blogspot.com/2022/03/r...

Some favorite quotes from To The Hermitage and other works

‘Fiction is infinitely preferable to real life...As long as you avoid the books of Kafka or Beckett, the everlasting plot of fiction has fewer futile experiences than the careless plot of reality...Fiction's people are fuller, deeper, cleverer, more moving than those in real life…Its actions are more intricate, illuminating, noble, profound…There are many more dramas, climaxes, romantic fulfillment, twists, turns, gratified resolutions…Unlike reality, all of this you can experience without leaving the house or even getting out of bed…What's more, books are a form of intelligent human greatness, as stories are a higher order of sense…As random life is to destiny, so stories are to great authors, who provided us with some of the highest pleasures and the most wonderful mystifications we can find…Few stories are greater than Anna Karenina, that wise epic by an often foolish author…’
