Vampires are selfish by nature, so why does this one care so much about his partners' pleasure? Because lust tastes so much sweeter at the moment of climax. Sangue Gustare is an Italian noble and vampire. See the world through his perspective he navigates his existence and has the best meals.
Sangue loves to read and enjoys adding unique pieces to the collection of items he's taken from his various victims. Each item has a special meaning, but why does he regard the boots as the best piece? Because cobbler was his most decadent meal, of course. In the 100 years before he met the cobbler, he's had plenty of time to learn about himself and what he likes, but it turns out that meeting Benigo is just the beginning of his journey, and he has so much more to learn.
Honestly, I'm really not sure I liked this book. The premise is that a vampire, who has lost all his memories once turned, discovers upon his awakening a couple ✨partnering✨ and becomes kind of obsessed with the idea of it.
This vampire then heads back to Italy, to his home he somehow remembers, tasting different emotions and deciding he's a fussy drinker... Oh and he drains every one of his victims, never even considers that maybe he shouldn't do that, until much later. He eventually decides that lust is his favourite flavour, after seducing a guy and draining him dry... He kind of regrets killing him but only because of the taste of his blood rather than any real feelings. This is a consistent theme of the whole book, most of the chapters are named for people he keeps around to seduce then drains. I am honestly unsure if we are meant to get any emotions from him here, it mostly just seems that he seduces them because he finds them attractive and wants to drain them dry. This doesn't change when he finds out that his favourite victim has been reincarnated, he spends the rest of his days hunting the reincarnations for his favourite flavour. Only at the very end does he consider turning this recurring person into a vampire also, apparently having developed feelings at some point, enough that he feels jealous of the final reincarnation having another partner before they have even met...
Beyond the seduction narrative is the sub plot where this vampire adopts werewolves? This may be to try and make the vampire seem like a better person, who is generous and caring. However, he treats both as pets, calling them his good girl and good boy, which is just weird honestly, and he mainly seems to use them to clean up his bodies after the first one offers to do so once...
The main characters vibes (it's all told in first person as well) were so off. He just seemed unfeeling, like a serial killer perspective, and I am unsure what this book was trying to do or what emotions it was trying to evoke. This one fell flat for me.

I read this book as an ARC and really enjoyed the unique way the author depicts the characters. Sangue prefers the taste of 'lust' in the blood of his meals/victims. This makes him morally grey, because while he doesn't feed recklessly and frequently, he is still seducing people to eat. You get the impression he really does adore the time he spends with these people, though. He collects things each victim was passionate about, which due to the way the author wrote and crafted his character, comes across as a way of immortalizing his memory of them, rather than a set of trophies of his kills. It's oddly endearing. Throughout the story you get the impression he really means no harm to people.
Each character he feeds from comes across as its own short romance story, but the main romance plot comes with some spectacular twists that had me gasping and wanting to spam the author with my excited reaction. I truly didn't see it coming!
Of all the side characters, Vincent was the stand-out. I wanna scruff his back and pet his head. I also loved the subtle ace-rep with his character.
This author has created such an interesting idea with this story, that will leave you intrigued and wanting more!
This book feels like it was translated from a foreign language into English. The sentence structure is poor and the paragraphs feel disjointed. There are many questions I had regarding the Main character, Sangue. How did he become a vampire? Why did he awaken in the catacombs? Why doesn't he know why he craves blood? Why doesn't he know that he is a vampire? Why does he kill all of his victims and not simply drink from them? Why doesn't he know anything??? There are leaps in time within chapters and this leaves the reader confused as to who the characters are interacting with and why. Physical descriptions of the characters also seem to change with time. The entire story felt awkward.
This is the first book from L. E. Scott that I have read and I truly enjoyed it. This is the story of Sangue Gustare a Nightwalker(vampire) who collects Momentos from some of his favorite meals. We get to watch as Sangue learns about what he is and what he likes. This book is very well written and kept my interest from the start. I am looking forward to reading about the cobbler's life in the sequel to this book. I hope to read more from this very talented author. I would definitely recommend this book.
Loved this novella! It’s a quick, highly-engaging read about Sangue Gustare: ancient Italian noble turned vampire.
Gustare’s several-hundred-year journey from newly-awakened monster to experienced Vampyre embraces familiar Creature Horror tropes with decadent finesse. Using a series of chapter-defined vignettes, Scott explores their hero’s thrill for lust and his aversion to fear.
Scott’s writing style is rich, smooth, and almost too-delicious to digest. Mmm. Happy to see they’ve continued this series; and I hope other readers pick it up.
This book is definitely different than what I normally read but it is so good! Cobbler's story kept me reading for more! I can’t wait to read the second book and see what happens next!
Vampires who feed on lust, happyness and relief the ill, to find out about a soul who traks him down, from the old ages to after WWII. Amazing story, which divedes this vampire from the ones who feed out of bloodlust or hunger only.
