Beautiful book, I just don’t like the pages after the prayer and 3 verses where the author “speaks” like (for?) Jesus. She is not Jesus, and idk, I don’t think it’s right to be writing words to go with your devotional page “from Jesus” if He never spoke them. For example, “I am the Creator of the universe, yet I chose to make My humble home in your heart…..”etc. Also, a few of the scriptures are repeated (feels like filler pages) and a lot of the writing just felt shallow, almost as if the author rushed the writing process and didn’t bother to go deeper in story telling, anecdotes, or just anything connecting the reader to her. Wouldn’t gift this or recommend it, but others will enjoy it, so if that’s you, great! It just isn’t my type of book.

This is just a beautiful little book and Young’s writings are concise but meaningful as she asks us to put Jesus in the center amidst the holiday chaos. It really is the perfect gift to start to Advent. The art is absolutely charming and serene.

Jesus Listens for Advent and Christmas is a beautiful, meaningful, thoughtful devotional offering daily devotional readings leading up to Christmas. The daily readings are applicable to day-to-day life, but also provide timely insights and relatability to the Christmas story. There are gorgeous illustrations that go along with each day’s reading, as well as three related Scriptures. I found this a lovely devotion to read leading up to Christmas to set my mind on the reason for the season, as well as helping cope with some of the stressors and distractions of the holiday. I’m grateful for this charming, inspiring book.

My sister-in-law gifted me this book for my birthday. I’m so glad she did. I loved it. I believe it is a 40-day devotional. (The daily readings aren’t marked with a day or date.) Each day’s reading has (1) a prayer from the reader to Jesus, (2) a short passage from Jesus to the reader, (3) usually 3 or 4 Bible verses that relate to the prayer for the day. There is also beautiful artwork throughout the whole book. It was such a treat to spend time in this book, leaning into the Lord. I highly recommend!

It is only December 9 and I have read the entire devotional! Sarah Young's writings always touch me with their connectedness to Jesus. I love that the entries are undated; I think it helps the reader to read as much or as little as they want. Scripture verses are included that relate to Sarah's writings. And the artwork of Sally Wilson is a charming addition to the book. As I read this book, I had a sense of calm and peace, of wonder and delight, of joy and hope. What a gift to be able to experience this book before I celebrate Christmas this year!

I read one prayer each day of Advent along with the Bible verses. Great way to start or end the day during this busy time of the year.

Liked some of the art, it was nice to have the Bible verses (except for one Living Bible one where the author ignored the actual verse), but I wasn't much for the prayers themselves. Too many of them seemed to focus on the reader rather than on God.

I have loved Sarah Young’s JESUS CALLING devotionals and I wanted something inspirational to read this Christmas. This was a perfect daily devotional for me. Even though it isn’t “numbered” it follows a pattern and makes it easy to read a bit each day. Each day’s reading includes a short devotion/story, a quote, and 3-4 verses from the Bible. Among the pages are beautiful illustrations that include winter scenes and forest animals in the colors of green, burgundy, gold, and white.

The daily readings only took a few minutes each day and got me started off in the right mindset for the day. This would make a great gift, just be sure to give it early so the receiver can start it around Thanksgiving. This is one I will look forward to reading every year.
