Cracklin' Ginger

Rate this book
Working for a school project at a horse rescue facility, Nelson falls for the one horse which can’t be found a new home.

Toscana is beautiful, young chestnut mare whose looks attract prospective adopters before her terrible temper puts them off. Nelson forms a bond with the horse, but then has to leave for college, followed by a job in London.

Several years later, he visits the rescue center to see the mare who stole his heart -- only to find that Toscana is gone.

What does ‘gone’ mean?

I'd call this a YA short story. The language is formal except during conversations, but as the page length is short, younger readers should not be deterred from reading.
A young man at boarding school spends his free time at a local stable for rescue horses, and helps to rehabilitate a badly treated mare. He has to move on with life, but if he meets the mare again, will she remember him?
I am not sure how the title fits, as the mare is called Toscana, but she is a chestnut, which are often nicknamed Ginger. We learn just enough about helping horses, and about kindness to all.
Enjoy.

Short and Sweet

This is a great short story about a young man who turned to animals when he was made fun of in school. When he volunteered at a rescue horse center, he was the only person who was able to tame an abused horse. When he had to move away after graduating from school, he had to leave the horse behind. After starting his career, he returned to the horse center to see the horse he had to leave behind. He found out, a young lady had adopted the horse and this led to him finding his true love. This is a beautiful story.

Cracklin' Ginger by Hilary Walker
Story of a horse waiting to be adopted but others find their antics offensive and they don't want the horse.
Nelson has worked with the horse and formed a bond but now he's heading off to another job...
.Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.

This is the outline of either a nice short story or a novel. I would read this when (if) it’s developed, but as it is, it just doesn’t feel like it’s finished.
