Join Simon and Chester in their fourth adventure as they navigate friendship, jealousy and new friends. A hilarious early graphic novel series for fans of The Bad Guys and Dog Man.
Welcome to the world of Simon and Chester, ghost and boy duo extraordinaire.
Chester lives with his Grandma, his cat Mr. Pickles and Simon the ghost. Simon and Chester are best friends. Their attic is the location for some of the best activities known to making up songs about passersby, acting out scenes from Simon's exciting Dr. Darington novels and creating the incredible Treat-A-Matic snack dispenser.
But Chester has also befriended a non-ghost named Amie, and she is coming over to work on their science fair project. Amie has a surprising idea for this project, and Simon and Chester's friendship will be put to the test as a result. Will Simon behave? Will Amie come between the two friends? Will an invisible Simon make fart noises that Chester has to explain? All will be revealed . . .

Simon and Chester are back at it again! I was expecting this to be the typical “friend is jealous their best friend has other friends,” and, yes, it started that way. But this is a simple, effective way to show kids no one wants to be a secret friend.
The resolution felt very abrupt and fast. Compared to the other books of the series this feels rushed and less complete. But there’s (not a cliffhanger) an obvious signal the conflict between Chester, Amie, and Simon will be further explored in other books.
Ultimately, real friends aren’t ashamed to acknowledge their friends in front of others.
I like how the story is expanding and the characters are developing. As always, Simon is my favorite character and I can't wait to read what mischief they get into next!
“I like it a lot because there’s like a rube Goldberg machine, like a trick shot and it’s so cool. I like how they were trying to be scientific.”
“I think the same.”
We loved this one but honestly the highlight was that my eldest asked if he could read it to me. He was so excited that it was a book that he could read on his own! We ended up taking turns reading it and had so much fun!
This fourth book in the series got intense (spoiler: there might be a ghost hunter in our midst!!). Another awesome graphic novel for young and old readers alike.
My Review of Super Friends! (Simon and Chester Book #4)
This is book #4 in the Simon and Chester Series, and if the earlier books are as good as this, then your child is in for a great time with this graphic novel. In Book #4, Simon and Chester’s friendship is put to the test because Simon is working on a science project with Amie.
Beautiful illustrations from the first page to the last will keep younger readers captivated.
I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley.
I did not like how Chester was treating Simon and that he would not stick up for Chester and other ghosts with his new "friend" Amie. I hope Lenny is okay and that Chester is able to convince Amie and her dad that ghosts are good in the next book.
"Simon and Chester: Super Friends!" is seriously the most awesome graphic novel for little readers! My 7-year-old daughter is absolutely hooked on this hilarious and heartwarming story packed with lovable characters and life lessons. We have been following the adventures of Simon and Chester since last October and have no plan on stopping the obsession anytime soon!
So, let me spill the beans (no spoilers, I promise!) about this fourth book in the Simon and Chester series by the awesome Cale Atkinson. It's all about Chester, a cool kid who lives with his Grandma, and his ghost BFF, Simon. Together, they have the wildest adventures up in their attic, jamming out songs, acting like characters from Simon's books, and inventing this epic snack machine called the Treat-A-Matic.
First off, the illustrations are straight-up eye candy! The colors are so vibrant and the characters' expressions are totally hilarious. It's like a party on every page, keeping my daughter totally glued to the book. The illustrations totally match the story and make it a super fun ride.
But let's talk about Simon and Chester, the ultimate duo. My daughter is head over heels for these guys! Simon, the invisible prankster, has her rolling with laughter, while Chester's explanations and wild ideas have her totally captivated. They're like her new BFFs, and she's all about their friendship and all the crazy stuff they get up to.
This book has got it all – humor, life lessons, and a bunch of farts! Yep, the jokes are next-level silly, and my daughter can't get enough of them. But there's also some real stuff going on. The story tackles things like jealousy, making new friends, and figuring out how to get along. And it does it all in a way that kids totally get.
Oh, and speaking of new friends, enter Amie. She's a regular non-ghost friend who throws a twist into the mix. It's all about friendship dynamics and learning to accept others. The book totally nails the importance of talking it out and accepting differences. My daughter is really connecting with these lessons, and it's awesome to see.
"Simon and Chester: Super Friends!" is a must-read for your little munchkins. It's got laughs, life lessons, and all the fun you could ask for in a graphic novel. Sure, it's not perfect, but it's got heart and keeps the kiddos hooked. I can't wait for the next crazy adventure with Simon and Chester, and I know my daughter will be right there, flipping those pages with pure joy!
(Full disclosure: I received a free copy of this book for review through Library Thing's Early Reviewers program.)
We first met Simon the ghost and Chester the human boy in SIR SIMON: SUPER SCARER. Presumably a lot's happened between books point-five and four (case in point: Ricky's sleepover), but sadly I'll just have to speculate since I haven't read any of them. The good news is that it's pretty easy to jump right back in. (Although I still want to hear all about the sleepover drama.)
Anyway, Simon and Chester are now best friends who spend entire weekends together, acting out scenes from Simon's books; building epic and delicious Rube Goldberg machines; spoiling their resident rodent, the Great Moustro; and writing silly songs about their people-watching subjects.
UNTIL. (Duh duh duh!)
One day, Chester pairs up with a classmate for a science project. When Amie comes over after school, Chester asks Simon to hide - but just until he can find the right time to tell Amie about his spectral friend. Things go from bad to worse when Amie rejects Chester's suggestion of a baking soda volcano in favor of doing a project on ghosts (who Amie insists are gross, smelly, vile creatures). It turns out that Amie's father is an honest-to-goodness ghost hunter, and she "borrowed" his ghost trap just for the occasion. Will Simon and Chester's friendship survive this betrayal? Will Simon survive, period?
SIMON AND CHESTER: SUPER FRIENDS is a super cute graphic novel for younger readers. Simon and Chester are adorable AF, and there are plenty of butt jokes to go around. The plot also provides an unexpectedly salient lesson about stereotypes and bigotry, and ends on a cliffhanger that's both suspenseful and, well, maybe a little shocking. (Poor Lenny!) No doubt this isn't the last we've seen of Amie, and hopefully she and her dad will come to love Simon just as much as we do when they finally meet.
I really enjoy the Simon and Chester books and think that they would be a great addition to any elementary school library. They are fun and well illustrated, and while each book teaches an important lesson, it does so in a way that flows well.
I liked the idea of Chester trying to branch out from his friendship with Simon with someone who he met at school. There are many children (including me when I was that age) who are split between school friends and home friends, and they are often trying to reconcile the two in a way that makes sense to them. Like you can have a best friend at school and a best friend at home. My friend's son used to only be friends with other children from his class, and so when my son would call on him, he would be confused as to why he should want to hang out with someone who lived next door and went to the same school in the same grade but was no in his classroom.
At the same time, there is something cautionary in the story and, of course, it leads to the next book in the series.
Simon and Chester do such fun things together and I really loved that they did all those special things that made their friendship unique.
Wow. 😯 This book cover had me fooled. I did not expect this story to go the way that it did.
I chuckled, as always, because Simon’s butt cheeks never get old and Chester’s facial expression are a hoot.
This is the first time I can recall Simon and Chester sort of being at odds. Chester has a school project with a human friend and Simon isn’t having it. Tensions rise between the two as Chester works hard to impress by sharing activities and secrets that were exclusively something they shared with Simon the ghost. Simon’s feelings get hurt in the process and of course, he ghosts out.
What will become of Simon and Chester’s friendship? Read to find out.
What I’ve enjoyed most about this series, especially now that I’ve read book 4, is that there’s a mystery element that’s being built on from the tail-end of book 3. I’m intrigued and want to know what will happen now that some things have been revealed.
Similar to book 3, book 4 ends on a cliffhanger, and I’m even more eager and excited to read the next installment in this series, Super Frenemies.
Super Friends!" is a delightful addition to the Simon and Chester series, authored by a talented storyteller. With its endearing characters and imaginative storyline, it offers another heartwarming adventure that is sure to capture the hearts of young readers. This charming tale is destined to become a beloved favorite on any children's bookshelf. Simon and Chester's escapades never fail to enchant! In "Super Friends!", Simon invites his human friend Amie over for a science project but asks Chester to remain hidden, claiming all their cool stuff as his own. Feeling jealous and left out, Chester decides to disrupt Simon and Amie's time together by assuming his ghostly persona. However, to his surprise, Amie turns out to be a budding ghost hunter like her father, leading to chaotic and suspenseful events. The story ends with an intriguing cliffhanger, leaving readers eagerly anticipating the next installment. A sincere thank you to Library Thing and Tundra Books for providing me with a review copy of this book.
This was a new fun adventure for us. I am used to graphic novels for adults and teens. I am so amazingly surprised at how wonderful and easy to read this is for little ones. Using the wonderful layout of graphic novels along with easy to read storyline this great book helps teach children about friendship, learning new things and accepting changes in life. I love the colorful details of the illustrations. It was so fun to read that even my 4 year old wanted to follow along. What he noticed was how he could tell who was saying what because we followed their “talk bubbles” as he called it. I am so impressed. The pictures captured his attention and he wanted to learn about friends and their non-ghost friend. I think this is a wonderful way to get children interested in reading. I highly recommend this adventure and we will be looking for more from these friends.
I don’t usually review the short readalouds I do with my kids on here, but I just love this graphic novel series so much and since the later books are later I thought I’d go ahead and review them!
My 4 year old LOVES this series and has been so invested in it. And I have to say I was fully invested in what would happen next myself. Every single book in the series has been an excellent blend of heartwarming, humorous, relatable, and creative. This one brought up really relatable friendship struggles in a very understandable way. And after that ending we were dying to pick up the next book!
Once you get into the later books this series is best read in order!
This is another book in the Simon and Chester series. In this book, Chester brings home a new friend. Technically, he brings home his friend so they can work on a science project together, so they have a chance to win all the ice cream. But Simon is not wanting any part of it. Simon is worried that if Chester makes a new friend, they’ll be no room left for Simon. This book is pretty typical for the genre. This is an elementary graphic novel and there are kids that are going to love this. It’s not as funny and crazy as dog man but it has a cute happy quality that second and third graders are gonna love.
Simon and Chester adventures are always a delight! In Super Friends! Simon invites a human friend home to work on a science project. He asks Chester to hide as he shows Amie all of his and Chester's cool stuff claiming they're only his. Chester feels jealous and left out and decides to try and ruin Simon and Amie's time together by acting like the ghost only Chester knows how to be. But, surprise, Amie is a wannabe Ghost Hunter like her dad. Chaos happens. And we are left on a big cliffhanger. I need the next book immediately.
***Thank you to Netgalley and Tundra Books for providing me with a review copy.***
I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book is a heartwarming and delightful addition to the Simon and Chester series. Authored by a talented storyteller, the endearing characters and imaginative storyline delivers another charming adventure that any kids will love.
This book will surely become a favourite on any children's bookshelf.
A great edition to the Simon and Chester series. Full of funny scenes, great art (and Easter eggs) and an unexpected emotional layer that has made the series even more engaging.
My kids have loved all of these books and this one in particular has been my youngest’s favorite book to read aloud to himself each night. Rereading this series never gets old.
ARC Copy...it's another funny yet charming adventure with Simon and Chester although this time it seems the stakes are higher, judging by the ending and the fact Chester saved himself by being Simon's true ghostly friend.
Simon is a ghost and best friends with Chester. Their friendship is the heart of this enchanting graphic novel. With clever plot twists and entertaining, unfussy illustrations, Super Friends! will delight younger readers.
This is the first time I've read one of these in print and, I must say, what a tome. This feels like the next step in a series and is very middle of the story and a touch more immature than the last one. I wish I'd liked it more....
Although I love the art and still get some laughs out of my son, I feel this is going to get really deep soon and am worried how it is going to be portrayed. I feel this story has gone away from the original Sir Simon book.
