This is a must read for any aspiring leader or current leader. Leadership isn't a title and everyone the ability to lead, but to lead well we must think beyond our role and KPIs.
Leadership of others starts with self. We cannot lead others if we are not being our best self. This book isn't a guide to getting a job as a leader. It isn't a one-size-fits-all secret formula. What it is, is a framework to think like a leader, to be a better communicator, connector and contributor and essentially a better human.
When we lead well, we inspire action, harness the talents and strengths of the team. When people feel seen, heard and appreciated, they are more productive, successful and happier, which ripples out to others. And when we feel we are valued, respected and are making a contribution, we are more likely to thrive and grow. Success breeds success.
I love a print book, especially one laid out so well. But I loved the audio book, read by the author in a conversational voice (rather than a reading voice). Having the author narate their own book is an essential factor in my design to buy an audio book. This is one of the best audio books I have listened to. Do yourself a favour and get a copy in whichever format suits your style. And if you are like me, get multiple formats!
A really good book about leadership with a strong focus on authenticity. This is the second book I've read so far that embraced the idea to stay human and emotional in a leadership role and this really resonates within me.
Along with all the war stories and the presentation guides at the end this book is a really all-rounder.
Oh and an open question at the end: Does Burns really exist?
