When I played sports, I rarely felt nervous. Still, there were moments when I choked; moments when I failed to deliver.
These days, I feel the same way at work. I am never nervous before a presentation or an important conversation, yet I often walk away feeling it did not go as well as it should have. I prepare thoroughly, only to come up short when it matters most.
This book explores that very phenomenon: the inability to perform under pressure, also known as choking. I found the subject fascinating, but I wished it had offered more. The science is solid, but I craved richer stories. I wanted something that blended Sian Beilock’s research with Malcolm Gladwell’s storytelling flair.
Overall, I enjoyed the book, but it left me wanting just a bit more.
