This is the essential how-to manual for anyone interested in baseball research. How to Do Baseball Research updates and greatly expands The Baseball Research Handbook , published by the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) in 1987. A group of talented SABR members provide information and advice in a variety of areas, including how to use libraries and archives, find illustrations, and prepare manuscripts for publication. Particularly noteworthy is the new information on using the computer for baseball research and statistical analysis. Contributions from SABR committee chairs and longtime SABR researchers add valuable specifics to the fundamental advice in the ten chapters.
Interesting book on the subject. Somewhat outdated especially in the internet section. But, then, it is 12 years old.
Didn't really know what I'd be reading about when I picked it out. But, it's really about just what it says, How to Do Baseball Research. Actually, a lot of it would be about anything that one would want to do research on. But, given the subject, that's to be expected.
Did get some good tips, even though I really have no intention of doing any serious Baseball Research. But, some authors and websites were pointed out. Haven't checked out all the websites, but, so far, several of them still exist.
But, if one is desiring to do some research on a subject in baseball, I'd recommend this as a primer on the subject. Especially if one has no/limited experience in doing research. I'd doubt that serious long time researchers would benefit, but, one never knows. Surely, even then, reading this book would not be a total waste of time.
