Trystan and Bridget are an entertaining couple in this story. The writer focuses more on the romance of are witty characters and adds a dose of humility to our male characters. The story was a fun read. Bridget is my favorite character, mainly because her character was able to work with all the hard issues that were thrown at her. She was able to rise above of it and hold her head high. The is an easy read for me. The writer did a wonderful job at keeping the dialogue and narrative clear and precise. I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
When Trystan Cartwright, the Earl of Zennor is bored he makes wagers. One night in a grimy little tavern in Penzance, he and his two friends Philip Earl of Kent & Graham Humphrey stumble upon a woman masquerading as an ill-tempered lad. Unable to resist the temptation of such a challenge, Trystan wagers he can turn her into a lady in less than one month. To win he’ll have to present her at a ball in London and fool the beau monde. Bridget Ringgold believes her worst nightmare has come true when three handsome gentlemen abduct her from the stables where she secretly lives. The one who calls himself Trystan tells her she’s part of a wager and that she’ll learn to be a lady within the next thirty days and if she succeeds, she’ll be given the means to live a life she’s only ever dreamed about. A delightful historical take on Pygmalion. Bridget is a breath of fresh air & soon has the three men eating out of her hand. Trystan falls for Bridget but doesn’t realise it to begin with but then doesn't want her to suffer the way his Romani mother did & hides his feelings with his gruff manner. I loved their journey to a HEA & devoured this novella in a sitting & first read it in the Wicked Earls Forever anthology My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
“By Jove she’s done it!”- Lauren Smith creates a memorable, charming HR retelling of My Fair Lady. This story gives a certain remembrance to the start of the League of Rogues with many storyline similarities. We are back to a small group of men (3 in this case), kidnapping (buying) a young woman who then falls for her captor (mentor). Of course in this case she is guaranteed a better life for going along with their shenanigans, being made into a lady with prospects. From the very first “I’ll never touch her”, it was clear Trystan was doomed. I loved watching him come to realize her as a woman, and as his attraction bloomed. The fact that she blossomed into her own person, separate from his creation was what truly made the story. A touching realization of the power of self and the beauty in being true to yourself first and foremost. So many touching revelations and life truths in the final chapters. A beautiful and touching story, a perfect addition to the league of rogues.
This one has some strong Cinderella vibes. When Trystan and his 2 friends were at a tavern and seeing Bridget, (dressed up as a ragged boy) show some strength against her physically abusive step dad, they come up with a bet to turn her into a lady within 1 month. They did it because they were suffering some major boredom. This one was an enjoyable read.
I'm now excited for next book in the series Her Wicked Highwayman.

4 1/2*STARS* Trystan Cartwright, the Earl of Zennor, is bored. Stopping at a tavern in Penzance with his best friends, they discover an abused young girl living with little food and no comfort. The three gentleman decide on a wager. In one month, Trystan will turn the girl into a lady. Step-daughter to the inn's owner, Bridget only wants a way out of her miserable life. Kidnapped by the three gentlemen, Bridget and the lessons begin. If only all wagers were as successful as this one. Pygmalion with a bored Earl and a hellion. Open bedroom door with heat. An easy read in an afternoon. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Bridget Ringgold believes her worst nightmare has come true when three handsome gentlemen abduct her from the stables where she lives. Trystan tells her she’s part of a wager and that she’ll learn to be a lady within the next thirty days and if she succeeds, she’ll be given the means to live a life she’s only ever dreamed about. But it’s easier said than done with Trystan drives her mad with his endless lessons, yet the moment she waltzes in his arms, she realizes she’s in danger of losing her heart. A sort of like an Eliza Doolittle story. A very good read. 5☆
Mad About Series 2023 Challenge League of Rogues Series. #18, So far the last book in the series. There is another one on the way about Rafe Lennox called "Her Wicked Highwayman". The H is the Earl of Zennor, Trystan Cartwright. His companions and house guests are Graham Humphrey and Phillip, Earl of Kent. The h is Bridget Ringgold aka Hellcat a stepdaughter of a Pub owner. The two Gentlemen make a bet Trystan can prepare the barmaid to pull off being a lady of the ton in a month and attend Lady Tremaine's Ball. Graham's bet is that he can't succeed in a month. The bet if Trystan Earl of Zennor wins is Graham's racing gig and horses and if Graham wins the Earl's hunting lodge in Scotland. Bridget is guaranteed all the clothes he buys for her and a job recommendation plus a cottage at the end of the month. It is a win win for her. This a classic Pygmalion ( My Fair Lady) story. League of Rogue characters in this book: Graham Humphrey, Phillip Earl of Kent and Rafe Lennox. New characters: Trystan Cartwright and Bridget Ringgold.
This was an extremely delightful read. Bridget had my empathy immediately, and Tristan had my admiration. He had a kind soul that grew the more time he spent with Bridget. What started out as a bet because much more, because chemistry and fate had a hand in it imo. I liked that Bridget and Tristan showed much growth as the story progressed. Looking forward to more wicked bets being made!!! I voluntarily read a free copy of this book provided by book sirens and am giving an honest opinion.
As always Lauren Smith has written a wonderful story with a hellion as our heroine and a bored Earl as our hero. He makes a wager with two of his friends regarding her but in the CV end she's the winner. As is this book!!
This is a charming take on Pygmalion. Trystan Cartwright, Earl of Zennor is at a loose end and bored. Finding himself in a tavern on the way to his ancestral home he bets his friends that he can take any woman from the lowest rungs of society and teach them to be a lady. Discovering a scruffy urchin masquerading as a boy he wagers that within a month she will be hailed as a success and fool the beau monde at a high society ball. He whisks her away from her abusive stepfather and the challenge begins. Trystan quickly realises Bridget is not the pitiful creature he thought she was and starts to lose his heart but can he take the risk of discovery and make her his countess? Bridget Ringgold has few options when the three gentlemen decide to involve her in some mad wager. Realising this is an opportunity to escape her present circumstances she resolves to play along till she can form some sort of escape. But along the way she realises that she can better her circumstances by seeing it through – but will she be able to leave when she has fallen in love with her instructor? I enjoyed this novella very much. Trystan was at first breathtakingly arrogant in his assumptions about Bridget and women in general but he did evolve in his thinking towards the end and the author made of a point of articulating that in his inner monologues. He had his sweet moments and he was definitely a charming rogue but he treated Bridget with all honour. Bridget was a wonderful lead. She is sweet, clever, resourceful and manages to confound and keep the gentlemen on their toes from the start. She blossomed into a confident and true lady and I loved that she kept her independence and didn’t bow to Trystan’s edicts – especially towards the end when he behaved like a bit of an idiot in my opinion. I loved Trystan’s friends and there are hints that Graham will be getting his story soon but personally loved how caring and honourable Phillip, Earl of Kent was and will be waiting for his story. Overall this is a delightful read with plenty of charm, humour and steam. I received a review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Trystan Cartwright suffers the same malady as his musical counterpart, Professor Henry Higgins… boredom. His friends, Phillip the Earl of Kent and Graham Humphrey have accompanied their restless companion to a tavern in Penzance (nod to “Pirates of..”) where they encounter the subject of Trystan and Graham’s latest wager. Bridget Ringgold (Eliza Doolittle), dressed as a boy, just sloshed ale all over Trystan, hurled a broken mug at her stepfather and expletives at the same time. Trystan wages that the dirty cheeked, waspish tongue, guttersnipe will be transformed into a lady in 30 days under his tutelage. He purchases the unwilling hellion from her stepfather (Alfred P. Doolittle) for 55 pounds. Her honor will be protected by the Earl of Kent (Colonel Pickering), who always treats her like a lady.
The author uses a lot of the dialogue from “My Fair Lady” and famous scenes, although my favorite scene from “at the races” was missing. I think that the horse gifted to Bridget should have been named Dover instead of Beau, so that when she and Trystan went riding she could have shouted “C’mon Dover, C’mon Dover, C’MON DOVER… MOVE YER BLOOMIN ARSE!”. That would have been as right as the “rain in Spain”. The inevitable does happen, the earl and the tavern girl are smitten with each other. Smith also adds a little steaminess in this novel that most certainly didn’t happen in the movie. Readers will love this version of “Pygmalion” so much that they 🎶 could dance all night 🎶. My first read by this author, and certainly not my last. 5 stars ⭐️ plus lots of confetti 🎉 for this delightful story. I have received an ARC from the author and I am leaving an unbiased review voluntarily.
This novel turned out to be a delightful, fast-paced, quick witted, funny, Pgymalion style read that I finished in one sitting!!
I loved the hellion Bridgette, who was discovered by Trystan, Earl of Zennor and his two friends in a pub when she served them their ale (dressed as a ragtag, smart-mouthed boy) along with a healthy dose of sarcasm.
Bored and at odds as what to do for entertainment, Trystan makes a high stakes wager with this friend Graham that he can make a lady out of the dirt-smeared, potty-mouthed, hell-cat within a month and present her to society at the season's premier ball, with no one being the wiser. Thus they proceed, after buying the hellcat from the pub owner who happens to be her evil stepfather, to kidnap Bridgette and whisk her away to Trystan's country estate for her lady lessons. Rebellious at first, but soon realizing that if she does as she is told, at the end of the bet she will be gifted money and a new life, better than any she could have dreamed of living at that pub.
Trystan is amused by the hellcat but soon begins to see the lady under the grime, a lady who makes his blood run hot. Seeing no good coming from such a relationship he pushes Bridgette away and isolates from her.
I was highly entertained with this story, the characters are interesting and very likeable and the Pygmalion style theme was refreshing and light. I recommend for all regency romance readers.
Thank you to Book Sirens and to the author for the free ARC, I am leaving my honest review voluntarily.
A month, that’s how long Trystan Cartwright, the Earl of Zennor, has to turn the little hellcat he just bought in a local tavern, into a fine lady of the ton. Nothing nefarious, only a wager he made with his friends. A challenge to divert him from his boredom. Oh, but she’s a little spitfire. Strong, brave and a quick study. She surprises him time and time again. Honourable at heart, he knows he cannot claim her and has to set her free once she’s won him the wager. If only his little hellcat hadn’t sunk her claws into his heart.
They hadn’t kidnapped her, no, they bought her, Bridget Ringgold, for fun. For a wager. A wager that could possibly change her life if she was to believe the devilish rogue called Trystan. His endless lady lessons might drive her mad, but he also would offer her a life she’d never dared to dream about if she succeeded in fooling society at a ball. Simple enough for a bright and resourceful girl. But why didn’t he notice her? See her? What mean wealth and freedom, when a simple waltz made her world shift on its axes?
📚 This novel was a delight! Sarcasm, quick wit, and a feisty heroine with three cinnamon roll gentlemen at her disposal. Both MCs are tough, foul-tempered and have a hard shell. Discovering why and seeing that shell crack is captivating, sweet, funny and a little naughty. I loved this fast-paced story, and the rest of the series is definitely going on my wishlist! 📚 Class difference, steamy, open door, rogue/hellion, guardian/ward
Thank you Lauren Smith and BookSirens for this eARC. All opinions expressed are my own.
The Earl of Zennor is another installment in the League of Rogues books, although it doesn't feature any of the actual league members, it is very much in their world. Trystan, the Earl of Zennor is bored and on a whim takes on a bet to turn a scruffy and almost wild young woman who works in her stepfather's tavern into a lady. Sound familiar? It is of course the Pygmalion/My Fair Lady/Pretty Woman story. There are little mentions of the titles of these in the book, it's all a lot of fun. Like other books in the series, our hero is overbearing, not interested in any kind of relationship, and has a group of friends who are much nicer to our heroine to begin with. As the book progresses, it's clear that it's Trystan who really loves Bridget and that he can't live without her. The romance was fun and enjoyable if a little quick, but then this is a novella, there isn't really time to develop too much. Bridget was fun and feisty if a little too naive for someone who has been living her life and Trystan did the right thing in the end. There were quite a few Americanisms in there, but it didn't really matter as the theme in the book wasn't all that realistic in any case. All in all a good read. Small note, Zennor seems like some crazy made-up place, but it's the name of an actual village in Cornwall, right down at the end. It was a shame that given its location that there was no real feel of Cornwall or the Cornish.
In "The Earl’s Wager," we meet Trystan Cartwright, the charming Earl of Zennor, who, when bored, turns to dangerous wagers. In a gritty tavern in Penzance, he encounters Bridget Ringgold, a spirited woman disguised as a lad. Intrigued by her boldness, Trystan wagers he can transform her into a lady in just thirty days, planning to present her at a London ball to impress high society.
Bridget, initially horrified at being abducted by Trystan and his friends, quickly learns that this wager might offer her the chance at the life she’s always dreamed of. However, the journey to refinement is anything but easy, especially with Trystan’s relentless lessons driving her to the brink. As their time together unfolds, Bridget finds herself drawn to Trystan, and she realizes she’s at risk of losing her heart amidst the chaos of their unconventional arrangement.
This delightful tale expertly blends humor, romance, and a touch of societal critique, making it a compelling read. The chemistry between Trystan and Bridget is palpable, and their witty banter keeps the story lively. As they navigate the challenges of class and identity, readers are treated to a charming exploration of love blossoming in the most unexpected circumstances. A must-read for fans of regency romance!
The following are my thoughts as I read this book. Trystan Cartwright… the Earl of Zennor, a rogue, bored with his life. Bridget Ringgold… nineteen and unmarried, lost her mother at age of nine, lives with her cruel stepfather. The H has just made an outrageous bet with his friend and the h is at the center of the bet. This is crazy, can the H has a great deal of nerve to suggest his wager with his friend. I’m trying to like the H but he is making it very hard. Ha! the h did it she helped the H win his wager, but it wasn’t as great a victory as he thought it would be. Look at the h enjoying life for a change. Is the H having second thoughts? Serves him right, LOL. Of course she feels the same as he does, HEA. This is book eighteen of The League of Rogues series. When I first read the preview of the book I had my reservations about this story because of the high handed disrespectful wager proposed by the H but I hung in there to the end and found that it was a cute and funny story. I still think the H was a jerk. LOL but he did help the h learn things about herself. The side characters also helped the hilarious interactions between the MCs.

A steamy version of Pygmalion / My Fair Lady. Written in a humorous, accessible writing style, it reads quickly and easily. Entertaining characters.
A bunch of bored aristocrats make a bet. The subject is the cheeky dirty looking girl with a big mouth who works in the pub where they are at the moment. She must be transformed into a lady of the ton within a month, indistinguishable from a princess.
Bridget has no choice but to cooperate, and though very reluctant at first, she cooperates. Trystan, the initiator of the bet, never thought he would fall for his latest project, this dirty and ill-mannered barmaid. He only wants to win his bet and then send her away with a hefty reward. Of course everything turns out different, but although he does have feeling for Bridget, he has his reasons for sending her away.
Even though Trystan is arrogant and rude, there is also a nice humorous side to him. I think Bridget is fantastic, how she shapes her life the way she wants when she gets the chance. Entertaining secondary characters, who may also get their own interesting story.
A feisty captivating heroine, an arrogant hero, pleasant writing style, in short, an entertaining romantic story

My Fair Lady vibes and there is nothing wrong with that!! Trystan and his two well to do buds are bored and entitled. They make bets between them and up the ante each time. This time- a hellion of a girl who dressed as a lad they spot in a Public House. Her parents long buried her stepfather is a cruel master and to keep herself safe she stays hidden beneath boys drab clothing and cap. The wager- Trystan can take the uncouth lady to the ball. Fool the ton. There is heart in these chaps though. They will help her to then go forth in the world as a lady, perhaps marry well or be able to carry on a business doing much the same for other unfortunate souls. Bridget doesn't trust. Men take from women, hurt them, discard like trash, toss them aside forgotten. So her lack of trust in these handsome men keeps her on alert and cautious. I loved the lessons, the warmth of Trystan's household staff to a person, basically, from the streets. This only bellied the fact that here indeed is a good man albeit rather bored and juvenile! Love, or interest even, didn't come fast but that is true to life. Hardly anyone just 'falls' in love. Its slow and careful and sometimes just a plain surprise. I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed it.
When Trystan and his two friends discover that the surly lad just slapped by the tavern keeper is a girl, they make a wager. Trystan will take the young women and turn her into a lady in time for a prestigious ball. He has less than one month to turn the surly brat into a lady who will fool Society. Bridget doesn’t trust the three handsome gentleman who purchased her from her stepfather, and she is skeptical about Trystan’s ability to teach her how to be a lady of the Beau Monde. This is a humorous take on the Pygmalion story. Watching the three gentlemen teach Bridget all about being a lady is delightful. Bridget is smart, and though she resists at first, takes to her lessons well. Along the way, Trystan falls for Bridget, and she for him. He resists and hides his feelings by being a grump. As time for the ball approaches, there are two questions. Have Trystan and his friends succeeded in teaching Bridget? Is there a happy ending for Trystan and Bridget? Wonderful story! I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed it.
The Earl of Bridget Ringgold finds herself being caught in a bet between three men who visit her step-father’s tavern. One of the men, Trystan Cartwright, the Earl of Zennor is so bored that he decides to wage property to win the bet that he can transform Bridget from the ‘hellcat’ that she is, into a lady. If Bridget manages to fool the ton, Trystan will win the bet. What he doesn’t realise is that he will fall in love at the same time. With elements of My Fair Lady, this book highlights the gradual transformation of Bridget into a lady. Along the way, Trystan goes from being a somewhat self-indulgent male to someone who cares for another. I didn’t love the character of Trystan Bridget, but I found Bridget to be more endearing. There were several points that didn’t get a full explanation, such as Bridget’s similarity to a princess. I wondered at times where that would turn into something more given that she had a better education than was expected. Overall, a good read which was well paced.

This Pygmalion themed story is a quick steamy read with interesting, albeit stereotypical male dominant, self-centered characters. Rogue Trystan Cartwright, Earl of Zennor, makes outrageous bets with his friends for amusement, with little consideration for the human cost to others. Thus, purchasing a bar wench, Bridget Ringgold, from her abusive stepfather and capturing her from her quarters in the stables like kidnappers sets the tone of their relationship. Training Bridget to speak and act like a born lady in less than a month sounds far-fetched if she wasn’t raised in a core family with at least a middle class social status, including learning to read. I’m torn on this one. The story is well-told, but the way Bridget is treated at the outset is cruel. Under the circumstances the romance seems a bit far-fetched. Trystan certainly requires some redemption. I thank the author for an advance review copy and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
This is a first time read for me by this author. Although it is the eighteenth book of the series, I had no trouble following the story. Trystan, The Earl of Zennor, can't resist making a wager. One night while out with his friends, he comes across a feisty woman, Bridget, who is dressed as a boy. He challenges he can turn her into a presentable lady within a month. If at the end of that month he presents her at a ball and fools society, then he wins. But he had no idea that Bridget would steal his heart in the process. Trystan and Bridget were a great couple. Their back-and-forth witty banter was a delight to read. The writing was well-done and kept me engaged the whole way through. The characters were interesting and entertaining and I enjoyed following their story. I look forward to reading more by this author. I received a complimentary copy from BookSirens and am voluntarily leaving my review.

Trystan crosses several lines but Bridget shows enough fire to rise to the occasion! If the wager is won can these two get out if the way long enough to see that love is rare! True love lasts a lifetime! Bravo well done!
Most Definitely Recommending This Story! I found this book a delight to read and especially so because it has been some time since I have read a Lauren Smith story. Technically, it is nicely written and flows so easily off the page. It held my interest, amused me because of the cheeky subject matter and entertaining me very much at the same time. The characters of Trystan Cartwright, the Earl of Zennor, his two friends, Graham Humphrey and Phillip, the Earl of Kent made an interesting team teaching Bridget Ringgold how to behave as a Lady. I found Trystan and Bridget to be equally strong and enjoyed the way they butted heads, neither wanting the other to win, but I was happy to see that love reared its head and the rest is history. I read a promotional copy of the book which was supplied by BookSirens and my voluntary review is recorded above.

Trystan Cartwright, the Earl of Zennor, is arrogant, self serving, titled, rich and bored which leads him to make a wager with his friends when he sees Bridget Ringgold. Bridget is dressed as a boy in her step-father’s tavern where she is trying to exist and keep out of striking distance of her brute of a step-father. Trystan bets that he can turn her into a lady in 1 month, after which he’ll help Bridget get a start on a new/better life. Bridget isn’t interested in being any man’s puppet, but she does see the benefit of going along with the wager. Trystan’s friends help and they develop a protective bubble around Bridget, who is strong, lovable and definitely deserving of a fresh start. Feelings develop, but like most stories, time and absence are necessary.
When I began to read this story, I truly and profoundly despised the hero. Arrogant, full of himself, he was behaving like he could do whatever he wanted, including buying a person. That’s how he got tangled with Bridget. Trystan made a wager with his friends out of boredom, never thinking at how it might affect her. It got me pretty irritated. But I kept going because I love Lauren’s stories so much and man, am I glad I did! Bridget will bloom in her own, wonderful way, giving a run to Trystan for his money. All the sidekicks are absolutely wonderful: I love Chavenage’s no nonsense attitude and aunt Helena’s scheming. Graham and Kent are like Trystan: you get to
Like them more as you progress in the story. Everything is there for a nice evasion. A delight to read!

This is a steamier version of Pygmalion/My Fair Lady, and it is wonderful! Trystan and his buddies, Philip and Graham stopped at a tavern while enroute to Trystan’s country estate. There they met a brash server, whom they thought was a young man, but turned out to a nineteen year old female named Bridget. Trystan bet Graham that he could have her passing for a lady in one month’s time. And so you have a story wherein three men of the ton encourage, conjole and threaten Bridget as she blossoms under their instruction and care. You will find emotional outbursts, steamy moments, courage, adoration and lots of self discovery. Personally, I enjoyed learning the reason behind certain rules and lots of appropriate etiquette. This story is entertaining, emotional and heartwarming! I loved it!

This charming book is a nice „My Fair Lady“ variation with some steam, very likable characters and fun to read! I enjoyed the chemistry between Trystan and Bridget, she is quite a spitfire and he a devil-may-care rogue, with lots of banter and bickering going on between them.
Trystan Cartwright, the Earl of Zennor is bored. When he visits a tavern with his two close friends, the Earl of Kent and Graham Humphrey, he meets a wildcat of a young woman disguised as a boy and proposes a wager: one month to turn the hellion into a lady of society and present her at a ball in London…

I absolutely adored this book! I cannot believe that this has been such a long-running series and that I've never read any of it. The story gets off to a wild start when Bridget is kidnapped by three strange men. Luckily for our heroine, this is a regency romance, her kidnappers are very handsome and the only danger she faces is heartbreak. Trystan, the hero, has wagered that he can transform the common Bridget into a lady. The outspoken Bridget clearly has a few ideas of her own. This charming story was a quick read. The steamy scenes were a bit naughty but not overly risqué. I'm definitely looking forward to reading other books in this series.
