Brad Anderson is an American cartoonist. He graduated from Brocton Central School in Brocton, New York in 1943. He is best known for creating the comic strip Marmaduke in 1955, which he continues to draw to this day. One of his favorite inclusions in his comics was the old Cave's Meat Market in Brocton, NY. There were several cartoons dedicated to Cave's and to Marmaduke running away from the store with items he had retrieved. He was also involved in the comic strip Grandpa's Boy, which ran from 1955 through 1980. He received the National Cartoonists Society Newspaper Panel Cartoon Award for Marmaduke in 1978.

The repetitive nature of the themes in Marmaduke was recently parodied in the satirical paper The Onion.

Marmaduke has been one of my favorite comics when I was growing up - big orange Great Dane who doesn't know that he is taller than the average dog. My sister came upon this book of Marmaduke comics around the time when he came out and so it was an interesting walk back into history such as seeing the owners actually slept in two single beds while one of the neighbor has what made be a queen-size.

Just as his later self would do the Marmaduke of this collection thinks he is human but unlike the other he has an ego the size of himself if not bigger. The comics will take you through him being a love-obsessed dog, one demanding whatever he wants or protecting/serving his family when he isn't driving them all up the proverbial tree.

The only reason why I couldn't give this book a higher star rating is since this Marmaduke is intimidating-looking unlike the modern Marms. On some pages he looks like he is willing to bite whosever head that is bothering him while other he just seems to be scowling but for the one that is a Marms fan or likes taking a walk down history this is a good start....
