This biography of the greatest man who ever walked the face of the planet, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), was written by Tariq Ramadan. The author is a Swiss Muslim of Egyptian descent, he was a professor of contemporary Islamic Studies at Oxford University in the UK.

My bits and pieces of knowledge about the life of the Prophet (pbuh) were through my short years in Madrasah (Islamic Sunday school) and then later through podcasts and youtube videos from renowned modern-day Islamic scholars. The Moroccan TV series Omar (about the great Caliph Omar Ibn Khattab) was also a huge help in my visual understanding of what took place during the early days of Islam in Makkah and Madinah, and the role of the Companions (shahabah) of the Prophet in delivering and spreading his divine message to the masses.

This book is not a detailed account of historical facts, great achievements, or famous wars that classic biographies of the Prophet give abundant information about. The narration of his life in this book is focused on situations, attitudes, or words that could reveal his (peace be upon him) personality and what it can teach and convey to us today. The author intended to write this book for a larger audience, both for Muslims and non-Muslims.

As a Muslim, it cannot by emphasized enough how we must always reflect on our actions by using the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) life’s story and his sunnah as our moral compass.
